The beginning to solving my own riddle
Artist statement #4: Blooming Bird
As an individual I love opposite elements like rough and smooth, clean and dirty. With my project I wanted to incorporate my love as well as make a statement. The combination of dirt and flowers to symbolize my love for the opposite elements but also to societal need to feel/want/look feminine. I am a tomboy, I enjoy getting dirty, climbing trees what have you. . I wanted to create organized chaos. I wanted to create beautiful messes. Performing this “pretty dirty” act combined the different moods I often have when it comes to femininity. I was completely oblivious to the "love made me do it " on my shirt which makes me think it was meant to be.
Project #4: The artist is present
I had soooo much fun making this. I really went outside my bubble and challenged myself. I loved the editing process, taking away color, adding color, adding speed, decreasing speed. I also didnt plan the rain it just happened, which was awesome. The best project Ive ever had to do.
Exercise #4 : verb list My favorites were To feel To grow To disobey
Reading Response:4 Marina Abramovic
Immediately I fell in love with her description of using the body to its fullest potential and challenging the viewers. Marina is able to create art that not only speaks volumes of issues but for the viewers to relate as well. It’s extremely scary how far she has pushed boundaries of allowing herself to be a subject and for people to participate in the art by doing certain things to her body. Like her object piece. I love the exercises she makes the students do and the idea of being present and mastering oneself. She brings authenticity to light of being at home in your own body and being present. To be able to test your own boundaries of body security, and trusting yourself well enough to do avant garde acts is astounding and Marina is the definition of being real.
Reading Response #4: Roselee Goldberg
I appreciate the history of the performing arts. I LOVEEEE the idea of Avant Garde work and how she explains it can be playful or display satire to break down ideas. I never would have conceptualized that ideas could be broken down by the use of our bodies. The ability to break down time and motion? I think this module will be the most exciting for me because of how performance arts can really push you outside of your comfort zone. But also understanding how you can push yourself and tell why youre doing what youre doing. Or maybe that’s the point is you dont have to have a reason.
Artist Statement #3
Though this project was a little challenging for me to think of abstract ways to display vanishing elements, I decided to become one with one of my elements. Light. I wanted to be part with sound and light which was successful, at least to me. Through my art video, I want to display and aim toward our connectivity with these elements and the ability to have fun and be silly with them. I also wanted to incorporate my love for the performing arts. I wanted to capture the movement of the body with vanishing light and the becoming of a dancer.
Project #3 Vanishing and Becoming
I had a lot of fun being part of my project. I thought it would be neat to make lights a part of me.
Exercise #3: Music Video
I had a lot of fun making this video, I liked the idea of using vintage video along with some fun gifs
Reading Response #3: Sean Cubitt
When I first read that light and projection might have been our first medium, I actually automatically thought of Plato and it excited me so much because of how much I love philosophy. It made me laugh as well that the entire time reading, I kept wondering when it would come up and guess what happened...I was right and it was in the essay. But if I was to step away from the allegory, I would have totally guessed a drawing was first historically. It’s interesting how limited projection and light was compared to what we can create today with light and transforming different resources of light. I like the concept of natality. “the principle that the new beginning inherent in birth can make itself in the world only because the newcomer possesses the capacity of beginning something anew, that is, acting.” Vanishing and becoming makes a little more sense to me. The object in the vanishing point is therefore becoming. If I understood correctly. It’s really interesting that some artists are able to capture sensuality, empathy such as Paul Sermon. I actually watched his video of Telematic Dreaming and it was fascinating to see how the two bodies interacted with each other from separate beds but through projection they were able to interact and “feel” each other.
Reading Response #3: Time and Motion
This might sound very cliche but I actually never really noticed how interactive we really can be with art from artist’s,I’m not sure if it’s because I’m not an art major and never realized or I just really was oblivious to some of these things. When I have gone to look at art in museums I would ask questions but I never thought of the behind the scenes, the thoughts artists actually think about. Like the example of using your eyes to be interactive with a piece, I really wasn’t aware that the artists use that as a tool to engage viewers. I figured the purpose of art was to tell/show a meaning, at least that’s my favorite kind of art for example the “Arch of Hysteria”, Louise Bourgeois chose to rely on psychoanalytic theory. I find that most fascinating because you are able to somehow understand the message of the vulnerability opposed to Elizabeth Murray’s “Cloud 9″ which is visually...what’s the word?...Interesting? “Nude Descending a Staircase” was amazing, to be able to capture both fast and slow movement. What I took from this reading is to be open minded when creating a piece, to the many different factors that play into the viewer’s experience of looking at art. The deconstruction of time such as applied time, recorded time and actual time has allowed us to understand how to create art that is not only telling a message but can be short and capture the attention of the viewers. Though it’s interesting that some artists have chosen to record longer videos such as Bill Viola’s “Quintet of remembrance.” Why would he choose to create a piece where people wouldn’t take the time to stop and look at the video? Or maybe that’s the point, some people don’t take the time to stop and observe...

When I think of GIFS I think of humor and with this project I wanted to display how much I laugh when I look at animation. Something we all have in common that we like to share together is humor. I also think of this form of art as relatable and able to express what you might not be able to put in words. It was also fun to merge words and different typography to animation. Through my project I aimed toward making GIFS that are relatable and can be found funny whether you are a student, a worker or just from past experiences you are able to look at one of these GIFS and feel nostalgic.
