see the biggest issue is that before, the gems didn’t see anything wrong with vocally comparing steven to rose. there are a lot of cases where they definitely thought it was beneficial to make those comparisons because they thought it would inspire him and give him some more context and connection to his powers.

do u ever think about the fact that steven has had guilt over being the reason his mom is gone thrown at him his ENTIRE life... like the gems never meant anything by it, they were all dealing with their own things, but they accidentally fucked up steven SO hard with the constant comparisons and “if rose were here”s and hes only now getting over it. they all love steven, and they wouldn’t trade him for rose ever, but they’re so hurt in their own rights that they let it affect steven. god theyre so dysfunctional. 

the only person who hasn’t ever done that to steven has been greg... can we stan a good father figure. it hurts me to think about how steven’s rose complex might have formed differently if he didn’t have greg there to be such an emotional pillar when it comes to her
