Update: Stumbling Block

Hey, folks. We've hit a bit of a stumbling block. The coder we were commissioning has vanished, so we're going to have to find a premade skin to use since no one else we contacted has comms open. But fret not! We won't let this stop us!

Just a little post to let everyone know we are still around. R.l. got a bit hectic, and we're slowly hashing out further details, as well as waiting for news on our skin commission. Unfortunately we don't currently have more previews to release, but if anyone is interested in an early challenge for face reserves we may throw one up soon. Let us know by liking this post.

Update: Member Group Release

The Demi-gods:

A demi-god is defined as either the child of a god and a human, or as the child of two demi-gods. Their abilities vary from one to the next, but what links them all is a need for exposure to whatever their parent (or grandparents) is (are) the god of. The longer that a demi-god goes without this exposure, the weaker they become. Those who are unaware of their divine lineage (and therefore what they need exposure to) tend to be frail and sickly.

The Mythological:

Beings of 'myth' with no divine lineage fall into this category. More than anything they have been the fuel that has kept the various pantheons going over the centuries since belief in their existence faded into history and mythology.

The Devoted:

With the modern surge of neo-paganism and related religions, many of the major deities of the various pantheons have regained followers all over the world. The devoted are humans who have chosen to not only believe in the gods, but have also chosen to dedicate their lives to one particular god. Pledges are those devoted who have recently decided to devote themselves to a god(dess), Priest(esses) are those who have proven their devotion to the god(dess) they have chosen to serve, and have received a talisman marking them as being under that god's protection in exchange for their devotion. High-Priest(esses) are those who have proven to be the most devoted of all to the god(dess) that they serve, and have been granted certain abilities in acknowledgement of that devotion.

The Neutrals:

Aware of the existence of the gods, they may worship or call to them for small things in their lives, but they do not show the same dedication as the devoted. Their acknowledgement adds only a small amount to the powers of the gods, but many see this as better than nothing.

The Unenlightened:

Those humans who are unaware of the existence of the gods, demi-gods, and mythological creatures that populate the world and other planes of existence.

The Modernists:

Those humans who are aware of the existence of the gods, but flat out refuse to worship them and add to their powers. Modernists have various reasons for their behavior, but many either believe the gods to be out dated, or wish to see them fall.

The Solomonar aesthetic

Romanian folklore creatures series - I

The Solomonar is a wizard who is believed, in Romanian mythology, to control clouds and rain. They are able to call a hailstorm, to cure diseases and to master the highest knowledge about the Universe. They were not supernatural creatures, but rather humans who learned special abilities, described as tall people, wearing white capes and magic tools around their waists. The knowledge is transmitted from a master to disciple, taken at birth from the ones born bearing a particular birth mark, taken into forests or in caves to learn the art and craft of wizardry, which they will use to fight against the dark forces of nature and of the human spirit. The wizard “schools” are at the “end of the earth”, sometimes called “the other realm” and they teach mostly astrology, fortune telling, mastering all meteorological phenomena. Solomonars have a special book in which all their knowledge and power is gathered. This is the book they use during their apprenticeship and only one out of seven apprentices becomes a Solomonar. Some legends say that in the caves they are trained by the devil himself, so actually evil beings, descending into villages to beg for help even if they don`t need anything, and where they are not treated well they invoke the hailstorm. In other places they are good wizards, using their knowledge to kill demons and punish the sinners.

Romanian folklore creatures series - IV

The Iele are feminine mythical creatures in Romanian mythology, often described as virgin fairies with great seductive power over men, with magic skills and attributes. They live in the sky, in forests, on isolated mountain cliffs and in marshes, and reported to have been seen bathing in the springs or at crossroads. They mostly appear at night by moonlight, as dancing, in secluded areas such as glades, the tops of maple trees or abandoned fireplaces, dancing naked or in white dresses and with bells on their ankles. The place where they had danced would after remain carbonized.

They gather in groups in the air, where they can fly without wings; they can travel with incredible speeds, either on their own, or with chariots of fire. The Iele appear sometimes with bodies, at other times only as immaterial spirits.

They are not generally considered evil genii: they resort to revenge only when they are provoked, offended, seen while they dance, when people step on the trodden ground left behind by their dance, sleep under a tree which the Iele consider as their property, drink from the springs or wells used by them.

Știma Apelor (Water Nymph) is, in the romanian mythology, a primitive freshwater divinity, responsible for aquatic stability and can cause both floods and drought. She presides over fountains, wells, springs, streams, brooks, rivers, lakes and other bodies of freshwater and she is described as a beautiful wild woman, with long green-blue hair and alluring eyes, half human-half fish while living in the water. 

When angered by humans, Știma comes out of the water with streams of water behind her, flooding everything on her way, villages, fields, people and animals. After she calms down, she returns to her home. She can also take the appearance of a young beautiful woman with long hair and seductive eyes, which attracts the boys to drown them.

Romanian folklore creatures series - VIII

In Romanian mythology, strigoi (English: striga) are the troubled spirits of the dead rising from the grave. The name strigoi is related to the Romanian verb “a striga”, which in Romanian means “to scream”. Some strigoi can be living people with certain magical properties. Some of the properties of the strigoi include: the ability to transform into an animal, invisibility, and the propensity to drain the vitality of victims via blood loss. Strigoi are also known as zombie vampires.

A strigoaică (singular feminine form) is a witch. The strigoi viu (living strigoi) is a kind of sorcerer, steals the wealth of farmers, that is to say, wheat and milk. But it can also stop the rain, drop hail and give death to men and cattle. The strigoi mort (dead strigoi) is much more dangerous. Its nature is ambiguous, both human and demonic. He emerges from his grave, returns to his family and behaves as in his lifetime, while weakening his relatives until they die in their turn.

The strigoi can be a living man, born under certain conditions: Be the seventh child of the same sex in a family; Lead a life of sin; Die without being married, by execution for perjury, by suicide, having been cursed by a witch. Also, children born with a caul atop their head will become strigoi to their death.

Strigoi in Romanian and Vampire Mythology have many supernatural and mystical attributes/powers such as: Super Strength, Super Speed, Super Senses, Weather Manipulation, Shapeshifting, Immortality, Invisibility, Immunity to Sunlight, and Spell Casting.

There is a known method used to get rid of a strigoi: Exhume the strigoi. Remove its heart and cut it in two. Drive a nail in its forehead. Place a clove of garlic under its tongue. Smear its body with pig fat killed on St. Ignatius' Day. Turn its body face down so that if the strigoi were ever to wake up it would be headed to the afterlife.

Sita is the consort of Rama in the Hindu epic The Ramayana. She is said to be the daughter of the earth goddess, and a reincarnation of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, fortune, and prosperity. She leaves her life in the palace to join her husband in the forest on his 14 years exile. She is later kidnapped by an evil king, and yet remains strong in the face of her adversity. Later, in order to prove her goodness, she takes the Agnipariksha, or trial by fire. When the people are still wary of her, she voluntarily leaves to the forest by herself for the sake of peace in the kingdom. When she dies, after restoring her sons to their father, she returns to the earth, from where she came.

Update: Plot Release

Millennia ago gods and mythical creatures roamed the earth openly alongside humans. Various pantheons of deities had worshippers aplenty, and it was this worship that fueled their powers. Yet as time passed on even the gods became little more than myth in the human realm. The only things that kept them from being rendered powerless were the mythical creatures and their demi-god offspring that were forced into the shadows.

Millennia without the power they once held took its toll on the gods. Many began to question whether they were ever meant to last. Yet others believed that immortality meant time would return them to what they once were. And so a new effort to regain their power slowly started to spread among the pantheons. Gods and goddesses alike began to procreate with humans and mythological creatures, resulting in skyrocketing numbers of demi-gods to roam the earth.

These half-god offspring added to the powers of the various gods, but it wasn't until modern times when neo-paganism and other similar religions began to grow more popular that the gods saw a true surge in their powers for the first time in millennia. Now there are those who are just as devoted to them as their original peoples were. But there are also those who believe the gods to be out dated, and still others who would like to see them fall entirely.

As the gods work to build up the number of followers that they have more humans are finding themselves with rewards for their dedication than ever before. Their half-god offspring have become essential to their continued growth, and have gained higher status among their pantheons than ever before. If the demi-gods turn on them, they could quickly lose both their followers and their powers.

Sirin or the Bird of Sorrow is a magnificent but cruel bird-maiden of Russian legends. Her body of a giant bird of prey is covered in thousand midnight-coloured feathers and a set of sharp claws, big enough to crush a horse. From the chest up, she’s of human appearance and her sinister face of a beautiful woman is adorned by a golden crown or nimbus. Sirin lays her precious eggs on distant seashores before casting them into the waves. When the eggs hatch, a thunderstorm sets over the oceans till they become so rough that no soul can travel across. She is a death-bringer. Her honey-tongued singing voice stupefies mortals, making them forget everything they had ever known in this world and announces their imminent death. People would attempt to save themselves from Sirin by shooting cannons, ringing bells and covering their ears but to no avail. Her terrifying smirk is the last thing they see before she plunges down at them with her claws and carries them away to the realm of death called Nav where she forever resides with her brighter counterpart Alkonost, her beloved sister otherwise known as the Bird of Joy.
