First of all, my heart goes out to everyone at risk due to trumps upcoming presidency. I’m in the UK and will not be directly impacted by any of his policies in the near future but I understand how devastating this will be to many. The people who voted for him have failed you, but you need to stay alive and you need to stay strong because surrendering is exactly what he wants. I would say more, but there’s honestly too much to say so overall: please keep fighting. Not only for yourselves, but for everyone around you, for everyone who fought for you to be here. Please stay safe.
(Stuff about censorship and preservation below)
Firstly (and the less important point but I need to get this out of the way), due to trumps censorship, AO3 is likely to be banned. If and when this happens, there will be no place for me to upload my writing because platforms with similar content will most likely be banned too. If I figure out a way to keep uploading, I’ll post it here to this blog.
Secondly, start archiving all the media you can get your hands on. Literally any media you like or care for needs to be archived. There are many ways to do this I’ll list a couple off the top of my head here:

CD’s + DVD’s
-digitise all cd’s and dvd’s to any device (preferably laptop/computer) and back these files up to a hard drive (you should do this anyway because of things like disc rot)
-if you can, burn your cd’s and dvd’s to a backup disc
-store your discs properly
Books
-find and download pdfs of books you already own, both ebooks and physical copies, also do this with books you don’t own but you want to read or feel like need preserving
-if you’re insane enough like me, physically type out word for word the books you own on to files on your laptop/computer, not google docs or Microsoft word
-store your books properly
-buy backup copies of your books
-download audiobooks
Fanfic
-download your fav fanfics to your device (you should already be doing this if you’re scared of them being deleted by the author)
-if you have the means to, print them out and put the pages in a cheap ring binder
-alternatively, print them out and bind them as a book (very expensive but it is an option!!)
-encourage the author to post their work to multiple sites/post your own work to multiple sites, especially to smaller fanfic archives (I’m working on it ok😓😓), this is also good for more interaction

If there’s anything I missed here please tell me and I’ll add it!! In this age of the internet you need to preserve and archive literally everything you even slightly care for.
Please also consider contributing to archiving efforts for specific genres of media, especially queer media. A lot of it has already been lost but please preserve what you can. It’s pretty easy to find second hand copies of books and movies and music on sites like eBay for dirt cheap too. Don’t give up and ensure the longevity of the things you love🫶

Hi guys!! I AM still in the process of writing part 2 but as a way to not burn myself out + a way to stop my thoughts from spiralling, I’m writing something else as a little warm-up or like practice almost??

Basically, depression has got me feeling a bit down recently so to stop it from going out of control and developing into a whole thing like it did in August, I’m writing something out of it instead. In addition to this, I’ve been feeling quite insecure about my writing recently and worrying if it’s actually any good and if people just like it out of pity or something. Even though I know most of this probably isn’t true at all, it’s kind of grown into something I can’t just convince myself out of until the next time it happens like I usually do.
I tried to take a short break from writing to see if that would help, but to be honest it’s only really made me feel worse about it. So I thought: might as well put all this depression and insecurity into SOMETHING instead of bottling it up and feeling awful all the time.
I’m not entirely sure yet if I’ll post this piece, it does deal with some quite heavy topics such as death and the grief that comes along with it (which is partly because of the latest shortest distance chapter on ao3 (a mkulia fic I read, if you don’t know it) and some short films also about death and grief I’ve watched on YouTube recently) so it’s probably not for most audiences (which I respect!! Don’t ever feel like you have to consume content with topics you feel might negatively impact you!!)
But if anyone is interested or wants to read it then I can share the google docs link, and if there’s enough people interested I might outright post it.
I’m just a bit on the fence about posting this bc I keep thinking what if it’s too ooc?? What if it’s absolute cringe and everyone hates it?? What if I’m copying someone and don’t know and they’re gonna get their cronies to jump me?? But of course that’s up for the readers to decide!!!! (please don’t get your cronies to jump me)

me normally: a fairly functional human being, able to converse easily and make accurate word choices, capable of sending work or personal emails/messages without thinking too hard about them most of the time
me, writing fanfiction: hey. hey is this a real phrase people use, or am I making up every bit of the english language I ever learned? is this how human people talk? do you capitalise "t-shirt" or am I losing my mind? is this word really spelled like this or are my brain and the spellcheck both broken? is this too specific a timeframe? how do cars work? am I being normal about the color orange? how do people actually talk to each other? how do words work? what does it mean. what does it all mean?
