Dark Choco Cookie is a very difficult cookie. Can you blame him? With all he’s gone through, it’s difficult for him not to be closed off. If you want to be with him, you’re going to have to be prepared for an agonizingly slow slow burn.
He tries to keep his distance at first, believing that he does not deserve someone like you, believing he deserves to die alone. Your persistence confuses him. How can someone like you continue to pursue a relationship with someone as dark as him? Do you not understand his past and what he is capable of? Do you not know the amount of blood his hands are stained with? He is terrified that his past or bad luck might taint or hurt you.
Despite his efforts to keep you as far away from him as possible, you continue to stubbornly stay at his side, eventually managing to break down the walls around his broken, tender heart and melt the ice surrounding it. Please have patience with him.
After a while of you giving so much to him and taking care of him so lovingly, he begins to give back. Silently fixing your clothes or hair, remembering your favorite food or flowers, taking care of you when you’re upset, wordlessly offering his shoulder to cry on, etc. These gestures are never loud or flashy. He’s never been a man of words, but know that they come from the bottom of his heart. He loves and appreciates you deeply.
Physical touch at the start of your relationship makes him tense up, but please, don’t stop. He is terribly touch-starved, but he does not believe he deserves something so tender. Years upon years of being met with nothing but violence and cruel words have made him this way. However, with time, he will begin to get used to your affection, melting into your touch and closing his eyes. He even sometimes initiates touch instead of waiting for you to do so, wrapping his arms around you. He’s careful too, always making sure you’re comfortable and that he isn’t hurting you in any way.
His hair is one of the few things he still takes pride in. It reminds him of his homeland. Even though it is not as long as it was in his youth, he still takes great care of it. It is a sign of ultimate trust for him to let you touch it, especially if he lets you style or brush it for him. His hair is so very soft... When he sits down and you start running your hands or a brush through it, the tension escapes his shoulders. He forgets all he’s done, all his regrets, even if only for a while. Sometimes, he even asks you to do it instead of waiting for you to offer. It’s one of the things he finds most relaxing.
He is VERY protective of you. He does not want to lose the only light in the midnight that his life has become. He pulls you closer when he senses danger, fiercely protecting you with his life. If someone dares to speak poorly of you, his hand automatically moves to the hilt of his sword. Alternatively, he will glare at them until they stop or apologize.
He suffers from frequent headaches, usually caused by either the immense power and burden his curse places on his shoulders or stress. The thing that works best to calm them is you rubbing his head. It does not make them disappear, of course, but it definitely makes him feel better. It’s almost as if you have a superpower when it comes to improving his mood and easing his pain.
He hates having any type of conflict with you and tries to avoid it as much as possible. However, if an argument does happen, he works incredibly hard to stay calm, talk it out, and resolve it immediately. He does not want you to see his anger. He sees it as a disgusting, destructive thing. It ruined his relationship with his father and nearly destroyed his life.
