In the modern au, would Norton ever consider adopting a pet? Or does he think they’re too expensive? Do you think he’d be the type to rescue a stray?
Now, he wouldn't adopt a pet since he simply doesn't want to. I'm not saying he's straight up against the idea of having a little companion or that he has a strong opinion on the matter to begin with, it's just that he doesn't want a pet. That's all. Like, he is not actively craving one or watching cute puppy videos while cooing at them. He's not going through all that legal action just to buy himself an overpriced animal.
But rescuing one? That I can imagine happening.
I can see him walking by a little box with a baby kitten in it and stopping out of pure curiosity, looking in and seeing a tiny trembling thing that looks like it's barely standing straight on its paws. Omg, this is canon in my modern au now, but imagine that little kitten being blind in the left eye.. and Norton's got a scar around his left eye.. Wow, I'm a genius.
Norton loves animals, at least that's what I like to think. People who hate people usually love animals since they're never evil or good, just true to their nature. And if he sees that kitten that resembles him so much—he'd probably have this whole moment of: "Hell, you're just as miserable as me"—he'd just have to take it home with him.
And he's a cat person. Argue with the wall, but he's a cat person and I'll fight natease about it if they ever decide to make him canonically a dog person. Dogs are too loud and active and they need constant attention, which he can't provide. He's busy at work. He needs someone who can stay at home and be fine with it. And he also needs someone lazy who just lays on his chest while he sleeps.. and cats heel stomach aches. He's got himself a personal doctor, what else could he want?
Now, owning a pet is very expensive. He knows that he won't be able to afford to go to the vet. It costs too much, and Norton isn't ready to waste half of his life saving on the kitten, but neither can he just hope that it's healthy and will live for more than a week. So he'll go to his neighbour, a sweet n old cat lady, who has had 32 cats in her lifetime and all of them were resqued and taken care of by her alone.
Anyway —oh, he's going to love that little kitten so much. It's a girl and he's either calling her Missy or Goldie, I can't choose. It'll do him well to have a little friend. He's one lonely man who doesn't like people but needs company because otherwise his mental state will worsen, and then there's Missy/Goldie.. a little kitten with a blind eye and a lot of love for her human..
Omg this is so cute I can't
