He doesn’t answer for some time, continuing to pout and gaze out the glass pane. The sun had hidden itself and saved its light for another day for when the clouds would fade, sparing the two any of the harsh rays or unnecessary squinting just to save their sight ( which only made him wonder if skeletons needed to do so anyway, considering their lack of… well… anything ). Though he doesn’t admit it, he too admires the sky and the rain and the fresh air and every little thing the surface had to offer; everything that was once denied from the mountain dwellers. But admitting anything would be a sort of betrayal in the flower’s mind, breaking a sort of unsaid vow of over-snubbing and acting stoic. Not that he tried to act that cool.
The thought-train distraction didn’t last very long, coming back to reality with a slight shake of the head, and again noticing that Papyrus was still there.
And he sighs, leafs drooping and head finally turning to give him an expression that could only be described as “tired”.
❝ But, NO puzzles, or puns, or ‘japes’, alright ?
With that, he establishes the ‘rules’ and heaves a heavy sigh ( of relief or exasperation would be something to argue on another day ) only to look back outside and see if there were anything of value. Playing ‘I Spy’ with Frisk was enough to drive him crazy when the only thing to really spy were the countless houses that surrounded their own, of which he’s sure are bustling full of life with a family as rambunctious as theirs. For once, he takes to playing it again by himself, something coming to mind after being reminded by Papyrus. For whatever reason, he thought of the skeleton, and said:
❝ Wouldn’t you want to go outside and feel the sun instead ?
Y’know, Alphys told me that the sun is a giant star. Up there,
all alone, but warming up the surface all by itself.
❝ Sounds kinda lonely.
NO PUZZLES, NO puns, no japes. The edges of his smile curve upwards at the little yet so very specific list of the forbiddens, but he doesn’t object to them. While his puns are very clever unlike a certain other skeleton’s, and his puzzles are top notch, he has no plans to break said rules established by his flowery friend. There is a time and a place for puzzles and japes, and now was obviously not the time. And more likely than not, anywhere inside of the house was not the place, either. Too... flammable. Papyrus reaches to cover his smile, trying to muffle the chuckle that follows.
“ ——NYEH HEH HEH. WHATEVER YOU SAY, FLOWEY! ”
Elbows come to rest on the surface of the table, chin cradled in his hands as he once again takes to following Flowey’s gaze outside. It was no game of I spy, not for him—— Papyrus simply takes in the same familiar sights instead, pondering over them in a comfortable silence. He still feels a rush in his chest when he looks upon their neighbors, because it hits him every time that they actually have neighbors now. People, humans, monsters, all in the myriad of homes lining their street, and the street after it, and the one after that. It’s a little hard to fathom how big their world is now———— thinking about it leaves him breathless. All things considered, his tenancy to go from simply glancing across the street to pondering this world in its entirety is probably more trouble than it’s worth, but that isn't something he acknowledges. Not really.
He turns his head to look at Flowey when the spell of silence is broken, something like eyebrows raising with intrigue. He knew what the sun was, but he hadn’t known it was a star——— And what a star it was, then, if he could see it in the daytime! ...But he has a point. That does sound like quite the lonely job, floating up there alone. “ WOWIE... ”
...WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO TAKE YOU OUT THERE, FLOWEY? ”
It’s nice outside, he’s sure. Not too hot, not too cool, and the fresh air is sure to do them good.
“ IF THE SUN IS LONELY, THEN PERHAPS WE CAN KEEP IT COMPANY FOR A WHILE! ”
