The prison they put Velvet in is so fucking funny they really spent the first few hours building up the idea of daemonblight, a curse that transforms humans into mindless, cannibalistic daemons, and how daemon werewolves killed Velvet's family and later her entire village, and then when you break out of jail you can go into the cells and talk to a werewolf there and he's just like "Hey man what's up?"

Velvet resorted to eating other inmates for three years to survive in that jail, killing and eating other daemons in what is originally portrayed as one sapient daemon preying on mindless beasts, but if you start the prison riot and talk to a zombie there he's like "Nah sorry I'm not joining, the guards are pretty strong. Better to be undead than real dead you know?"

This is definitely the first JRPG I've played where the protagonist has just been outright cannibalizing apparently regular fuckin guys. Who happen to look like monsters.

Tales of Arise: You have amnesia and don't know who or where you are but you picked up a sword by accident to defend a cute girl and apparently turned out to be a badass so you guess you're starting a slave revolt and freeing your people from slavery now

Tales of Berseria: You keep eating your cellmates. Just fucking gobbled up Steve one day and found out Steves taste better than the regular gruel so you might as well. This will be great practice for when you finally eat your brother-in-law, the president.
