no offense but reading is literally the cure to brain rot and there’s no work around to reading books

Made the guest room a little cozier for my friend who’s visiting this weekend 🥰
"Trump threatens tariffs on Canada for wildfire smoke"
thoughts on Emma M Lion vol. 7 so far: I'm alternating between silently screaming, gasping aloud, and smiling so much my face hurts! I have not enjoyed a ~reading experience~ so much in a very long time
The absolute best way to recover from a bad week - mountain time!!
I finished the week at 58.25 hours with another 10 hour day yesterday.
oh it's SO bad. just worked another two hours on the check, and I keep finding the most insanely basic errors.
Work is absolutely destroying me this week and I need to rant a bit. I'm on track to bank at least 12 hours of overtime this week? Or probably more??
I'm doing a quality check for one of our junior engineers and it's really, really bad. He's been with us for two years and this is the kind of work I would expect to see (maybe) on someone's first project. Once. And never again, because they should learn from their mistakes. But evidently, that is not the case with this guy.
Unfortunately, I am nice, and working all of this overtime so that I can get it back to him for Friday so that he can submit to the client for their review on time. Honestly, I doubt that he's going to get it to them on time, but that's a whole other thing.
I just don't understand how he had his manager sit down with him, make a plan for improving this package (with strong undertones of future official performance improvement plan) and he still hasn't pulled it together. He was also asked to do a self check on his work, which when I asked to take a look at it, he told me he "didn't keep it" which of course is raising questions of.... did he do it at all.
Drove an electric vehicle for the first time today. It’s such a weird/different driving experience!

Update on my job saga: it’s STILL not official. I applied in March. Interviewed in May. Got told I unofficially have the job in late May. And now HR is taking forever to finalize it. Big companies are the worst for this kind of thing!
I have so much other work at the moment though that I really shouldn’t complain about the lack of additional responsibilities
I will probably get through this just like I have gotten through everything before but I need to be really stressed and scared first
it's new bike day!!
yesterday I bought my first properly nice bike, my first road bike. I'm so excited to have a bike that suits the kind of riding that I like to do. I think I'm going to spend so much more time exploring the extensive bike paths in my city this summer, commuting to work by riding the riverside bike paths to get downtown, and going on evening rides with M to get ice cream. I'll be able to keep up with him now, importantly, and it'll just be so much more fun than it was on my slow and kind of generic mountain bike.
anyway, very excited to go pick it up this morning!
Family trip to Greece - a huge success. I was definitely worried about travelling for the first time (and internationally!) with my in-laws but it honestly went well. We learned a lot about each other but also had a lot of fun. Greece is wonderful, and I could definitely go back, but it’s probably time to find a new place to dream about for a bit.
