I do love that for the Jumpsuit music video they filmed in Iceland which gave Trench this kind of almost mythical landscape, it really captured how Clancy would have felt seeing Trench outside the city walls the first time after imagining it for so long, green and earthy and natural and so different from the gray concrete city

and then in Navigating when Clancy finally returns to Trench after being isolated in Dema and Voldsoy, Trench is just. Ohio. sticks and beige shrubs. he's back "home" again, but after being changed so much, home doesn't look or feel the same. like the magic of Trench is gone, another disillusion.

and then in Paladin Strait, Trench returns to being a landscape of bright green moss and mountain peaks and open sea but it's not real. it's CGI, a layer of artifice that can't be hidden. although still beautiful, it no longer feels natural like it did at first. like Clancy can't fully connect back to Trench, like he's returned to a world he doesn't really belong in anymore.
