It goes without saying but, the only person who can call K as “Joe” is Joi. (ok well, maybe also Deckard but that’s beside the point). In any narrative I write I will always refer to K as ‘K’.

Advertising is part of the DNA of Blade Runner, so it was only natural to find creative ways of pushing the envelope of this means of expression. “Billboards will be around until the human race is gone”, jokes Paul Inglis [Art director]. “But we had to decide what ads look like in 2049.” The sky was literally the limit, as corporate images could be seen in all possible spaces, even cast upon smog, rain, and snow. “The atmosphere is so thick in the city that you can even project images into thin air. In 3D, no less. And that’s an extension of our own reality today.”

Static billboards are a thing of the past. In this world, commercial images move, transform, and interact with their environments. “We had to take futuristic advertising to another level,” says VFX producer Karen Murphy. “Ads aren’t simply neon signs on a building. We developed new ways of projecting them, like pods that create holographic enhanced moving images.”

I think this goes without saying, but it would be foolish of me if I won’t somehow try to at least make K’s Dune AU to have anything to do with the Butlerian Jihad, in some form or another. Although there is a wealth of lore available there, I’d still probably stick to the ideas and philosophies that are already present in the Blade Runner series. His existence might be more similar to Erasmus or Ominus. Who’s to say? I haven’t decided. This might evolve over time depending who I’d be interacting with for any of the dune verses.

That being said, if you have any plot ideas, just throw them at me. I’m pretty much open to anything.

A laugh boarding on nervous passed the Detectives lips, an awkward tittering sounding thing signaling how out of place the jab was. The heavy silence that flowed over the room was telling enough that no one that was there to hear it was siding with him this time.

The Detective cleared his throat, eyes hesitant to return to the thing that stood before him was a cold unmoving expression.

Fuck it was actually unnerving.

“Well I got a million more things I could say, but clearly none of them are gonna fly without my ass getting chewed out for poking a bit of fun.”

♞ ― As always K merely brushes it off with a dismal shake of his head. It doesn’t affect him as much as the more socially conscious humans eavesdropping around them. He’s experienced worse and he’ll just have to suck it up for the job just like all the others he’s had. Right now, he sticks out like a sore thumb from all the others of his kind. Different brand, different product. West Cost made.

“I don’t think we’re here to have fun, detective.” A tense pause. He hands Gavin the folder of casefiles, non-pulsed. Then draws out his badge inside his coat and introduces himself in monotone.

“Officer KD6-3.7, LAPD. I’ve been informed I’ll be working with you on this case.”

♞ ― There’s hardly a twitch on his lip and his face remains neutral. Having derogatory slurs thrown at him was a regular occurrence in any precinct he finds himself in. He’s been called worse than ‘skin jobs’. Names that are even more dehumanizing. But the palpable hush that overcomes the police department was telling of the sudden change in tide.
