X-Men 97 Season 2 Episode 5 spoilers
Well, this was a real monkey's paw episode. On the one hand, I was glad to see Morph get some real focus, and be portrayed as competent. They were flying the helicopter, blasting brood with precise aim, squashing a bunch of them as Puck and the Thing, coming up with plans, standing up to Sabretooth. Morph got to be the star, he was clever and fun, and still managed to be the voice of reason most of the time. And although they got smacked around a lot, so did Lady Deathstrike and Sabertooth, so I didn't think Morph was portrayed as the weak link in the group.
On the other hand, this episode seems like it killed Morpherine pretty dead.
Honestly, I can live with it. I love Morpherine in fandom, but it will never, EVER be canon on the show. It's just not happening. Wolverine is a cash cow character for Marvel, they would never risk alienating a chunk of the audience by making him openly bi. (Yeah, yeah, I know, Krakoa in the comics.......but anything with the supposed Scott/Logan/Jean throuple, specifically the Scott and Logan part, was at BEST only vaguely hinted at, it was never out in the open). There was one alternate universe Wolverine that was allowed to be in a relationship with a man, and even that got shut down pretty quickly. I'd love to see it happen, but it won't.
So if Morph is disillusioned enough with Logan that he'll move on and actually get to interact with some other characters, maybe form some other significant relationships, I'm fine with it. (I enjoyed their interactions with Deathstrike). I just hope Morph and Logan can keep their friendship. As I've seen other people point out, Morph shouldn't have had to shift into Jean to bring Wolverine even partially back to his senses. Even if Logan has no romantic feelings for Morph whatsoever, their platonic best-buddy ship should mean something.
Also, Kane and Maverick got done dirty, but I do not care about their characters at all, so I don't really mind. Sorry Kane and Maverick fans.
