Hello everyone, I am open to requests for any member of the Z-team. You can ask for headcanons or a short drabble! I wanna practice writing them and I thought this would be a good way :D
I freaking love the stapler interaction so much. I'm not sure the writers intended it as anything more than a joke but to me it could reveal a lot about Sonar as a character.
Is he just trying to find a topic of conversation with Robert? Maybe he sucks at talking to people and this is actually his attempt at being friendly.
Or maybe he just really cares about his stationery. Maybe it's his only tangible interest and that stapler was really special, a limited edition or something Idk.
Or what if he is just really possessive over his stuff? Maybe it's something deeper than just caring about his stuff. He might just not trust the new guy and is testing the waters with him.
You could come up with like a million reasons as to why Sonar cares so much about the damn stapler, about whether the stapler even was missing. I could go on, but I will just let this little rant end here.
DUDE! Literally my favorite headcanon is that he cares about stationery so much because it helps him feel okay since graduating. Everyone else got a job or started a family or got rich – everyone except for Sonar. So he holds on to his pens and staplers to feel like he also is doing okay. His little businessman role play.

PAIRING: Robert Roberson x Reader
WORD COUNT: 5K
SUMMARY: The day after brings a big change to the reformed Mindsnap. It's a long morning as the upstart hero commits to their new job while unpacking what happened the night before.
The feeling of something wet touching your nose causes you to wake up. You open your eyes and see Beef staring right at you, his tongue hanging out. He gives you a few more licks for good measure before you sit up. You look around to orient yourself with the strange surroundings you've woken up in. One look at the empty space reminds you that you are in Robert's apartment. You peek next to you to find the dispatcher still sleeping, using his arm as a makeshift pillow as he lays on his side, a peaceful look on his face. You try to gently nudge the pillow you were using under his head but it causes him to stir. His eyes blink open and immediately land on you.
"G'morning, Mecha Man," you greet. He rubs his eyes with his palms as turns to lay on his back.
"What time is it?" He asks with a yawn. You look around until you spot his phone close by. You turn it on to see that it was still quite early.
"Early enough for me to go home and get dressed before work," you note. The tired man sits up once Beef starts licking at his face. He gives the dog a few pets before examining you.
"How come you don't look like you only had three hours of sleep after drinking all night?" He asks as you get up and stretch.
"Super-powered regeneration, baby," you explain as you pull away the bandages on your arm to reveal the wound had already healed. He simply sighs in defeat. "I should probably head out. Don't wanna be late to my first day as an SDN hero," you joke in an attempt to ease some of the tension between you. But when you look at Robert, he seems like he is holding back from saying something.
"Sure, let me walk you out," he eventually replies. You are unsure whether to feel relief or disappointment. You nod back as you begin gathering your things. Robert walks to the door and holds it open, his eyes fixed on you with a look you can't quite place. As you lock eyes neither of you seems to find the right words to part with.
"I am lo-"
"I want-"
You and Robert start speaking at the same time. The tension eases between you as you both laugh it off.
"I am looking forward to working with you," Robert continues. His morning voice was deep and husky. If only you could listen to him some more. "What were you going to say?"
"I just wanted to thank you again. For everything. I had a pretty good time," you give him a grateful smile as you speak. "Aside from the morning after walk of shame I now have to do," you add as Robert chuckles.
"Technically, it will be a drive of shame. Your car is parked here and you said you live pretty close, so it shouldn't be that bad," he corrects and you are glad for the reminder that your car was waiting for you downstairs.
"Right, I will see you at work, Mecha Man. Or should I be calling you 'sir' now?" you jokingly question.
"If you don't mind the team making fun of you as much as they do of me, then sure, go ahead," he says as he crosses his arms, leaning on the door frame. He looked dead tired and his clothes were wrinkled and all over the place, but you didn't notice any of that with the crooked smile he was giving you. Even the heavy eye bags under his eyes added to his charm.
"Right, well, I should head out. I'll see you later." You offer him a tight smile before walking away. You don't hear the door close until you have rounded a corner.
Once you are back in your car you sag into the driver's seat. A quick look in the mirror confirms that you looked like shit. The unflattering, over-sized clothes combined with your messy hair really made it look as if you were heading home after a wild night of passion. You suppose you couldn't deny that there was some passion last night. Or at least you hoped it was passion and not something alcohol-induced. Before you could figure out what exactly you felt towards the sarcastic, brown-eyed hero, your phone started to buzz. Pulling it out revealed the caller's ID.
Gramps
Shit. You had completely forgot to check in with Chase after your mission. You mentally prepare yourself as you accepted the call.
"Where in the goddamn hell were you last night? I called you fifty fucking times. Why the fuck didn't you pick up? You know how scared shitless I was thinking I had to tell Blazer I let you go and get yourself fucking killed?" You may have not been drunk, but you still had to hold the phone a good distance away form your ear as Chase's voice blared through the speaker.
"I am fine, I told you I would be. There were just some... complications, but nothing I couldn't handle. I just forgot my phone in the car. Sorry," you apologize to the old grump but it does little to calm him down.
"You better get your fucking ass to the office now so we can debrief about those damn 'complications'," Chase orders you. It wasn't a work order, but you weren't about to tell him no.
"Yessir," you reply jovially, which Chase doesn't appreciate.
"Don't you fucking Yessir me, just get your fucking ass to the office," he orders you again. You hang up and start the short drive home. It isn't even five minutes before you are entering your apartment and finding some work clothes. You make a mental reminder to grab the clothes you left on SDN's roof. Getting ready doesn't take too long since you didn't want Chase getting any angrier waiting for you. There was little doubt in your mind that he had stayed up late waiting to hear from you. And judging by the earliest missed call from this morning he didn't get much sleep. You felt guilty about causing him to worry, but you felt even guiltier about what did keep you distracted last night. You weren't sure about who it would be worse to hear it from, you or Robert. What was there even to tell? Was what happened a drunken mistake like Robert feared? Or was there more to it than that?
You ponder those questions along with what exactly you were going to tell your dispatcher. Ex-dispatcher. Maybe telling him about your decision to be a hero would distract him from the fact that you made out with the man he used to babysit. Maybe if you start with that you won't have to tell him about anything that happened last night at all. As you enter the SDN building you pray that your induction to heroism is a big enough of a deal to cover all of last nights mistakes.
The lobby is empty when you walk in. Not even the receptionist was here yet. The building was probably only just opened by the cleaning crew. The rest of the building was almost as empty. You find Chase waiting for you in one of the conference rooms. A deep breath is all you manage as his eyes land on you. You are not even through the door before the fuming man is up and storming at you.
"What the hell happened? Are you fine? Did you get in a fight? Was your cover blown?" Chase yanks you around from side to side checking for injuries. For a small, old man he was surprisingly strong. You barely manage to release yourself from his grip as he keeps firing questions at you.
"Okay, that was a lot of questions. Yes, I am fine. Yes, there was a fight. No, it wasn't my fault. And yeah, they don't really trust me anymore," you fire back your answers as you grab a seat and gesture for Chase to do the same. You are not sure whether it was his examination or your answers that calmed him enough to sit down. His arms are crossed and his brows are furrowed, but he remains quiet as he gives you a chance to speak.
"I found Toxic. Or rather, he found me. Wasn't really down to talk, though. Apparently, Shroud has decided that I am no longer trustworthy enough to work with the Red Ring," you weigh his reaction before continuing. "They wanted to, um, extract information from me. About SDN. I will give it to the man, he does make some solid deductions." You pause as you consider what might have tipped the mastermind villain. You know, aside from the whole Mecha Man thing.
"Well, shit," Chase said as he finally relaxed. "If you were looking for a sign to switch careers, then there it fucking is. Ain't no way Blazer is letting you go back to spying if she finds out," he continues, and his brows furrow once more. "Which she fucking will if you try to go on any more damn missions. Am I making myself clear?" You glare back at the old man. You had considered going again., but that was before you made up your mind.
"That's another thing I wanted to tell you. You don't have to worry about me sneaking around anymore because I decided to give the whole hero thing a try," you tell him and watch as his eyes widen in surprise. "You can thank Mecha Man for that," you mumble, hoping maybe he wouldn't pay much attention to that part.
"Robert? When did he manage to convince you? Last I remember you were dead set on not being a hero," Chase notes, to your utter dismay.
"I, um, saw him, last night. After the mission. He was still here and we... talked a little," you pick your words carefully, deciding to share carefully. Chase raises an eyebrow at your uncertain tone but doesn't push it.
"At least he will get someone who is actually fucking competent on that team," he responds. "You are gonna keep being Mindsnap or what?"
"Got any better ideas for a name?"
"I was gonna suggest Mindfuck but then I remembered that's already taken," the old man shrugs and you chuckle. It was good to see his worries eased.
"I don't even know why I asked," you shake your head. "I am not sure about the name, but the helmet..." You purse your lips, unable to finish that sentence. It was hard to picture yourself as Mindsnap without the signature helmet. Funny how comfortable a leash becomes once you get used to it. Chase gives you a sympathetic look.
"If it makes you feel better, I think you look better without it. The damn thing always gave me the creeps," he admits while shaking his head.
"Aw, are you calling me pretty?" You blink your eyes innocently at the man in front of you, earning you another grimace.
"I'm calling your ugly mug a better sight than that fucking thing," he replies while getting up, grabbing his coffee cup on the way. "You better get a start on that paperwork if you plan on starting today," he calls back as he exits the room. You groan out loud as you let your head fall to the conference table. The cool, smooth surface was a nice distraction from the long day ahead of you.
You ruffle through the stack of papers in your hands, making sure you had everything you needed to make your transition official. The only thing missing was Blazer signing off on it. Despite arriving before official work hours, you had managed to use your previous position to access the necessary paperwork and fill it in. You could already imagine the look on Blazer's face once you submitted it. A new hero and a neat and properly filed stack of paperwork - it was going to make her day.
The only thing you needed was to make a few copies of some documents. You were so busy looking down at the stack in your hands that you didn't notice the figure in front of you until you bumped into them.
"Shit, sorry, I didn't-" You started apologizing before looking up into the deep, brown eyes of the man you had spent the night with. "Oh, uh, hi. Good morning."
"Good morning," Robert replied while looking at you, a small smile playing on his lips. "Sleep well?" A snort escapes you at his question.
"Nothing like sleeping on the floor for your back," you retorted. "Remind me to bring a sleeping bag next time I stay over." He let his smile spread wider.
"Next time?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. You may have not known Robert for very long but it was hard to miss the smug edge to his voice. He still looked tired, but he had managed to make himself presentable enough for work.
"I didn't- I meant-" you tried to reach for an explanation as you clutched the documents closer but came up blank. "I need to get these papers approved," you finally let out, hoping he takes the bait and changes the subject. He somehow looks more cocky as his eyes narrow knowingly, but he lets it go.
"Are those for your new position?" He gestures at the stack in your hands. The question causes you to sigh with relief.
"Yup, I'm trying to get a jumpstart on things," you answer as you look down. Saying it out loud made it feel all the more real. "Am I... making the right choice?" The question you meant to ask to yourself was muttered aloud instead.
"Hey," Robert calls out and you look at him to see his expression had changed. "You made the choice to be good long ago," he explains, his eyes looking meaningfully at you, "this is just making it official." Looking at him, you couldn't help but feel reassured. A grateful smile makes its way to your face.
"Yeah, you are right," you agree. When you realize that you have been sharing a look for a little too long, you blink and look away. "I, uh, I should get going." Robert blinks in return, but he doesn't look away.
"I'll see you on the next shift?" He asks and you feel a buzz of happiness at the prospect of working together.
"See you on the next shift," you confirm as you walk away, a little more pep in your step.
When you head to Blazer's office you catch her on the way in. She was already in work mode, a coffee in one hand and her tablet in the other. She was too engrossed in whatever was on the screen to notice you heading her way.
"Hey, I was just coming to see you," you greet the blonde heroine and she finally looks up. You giver her a cheeky smile as you hold up the papers in your hand. "Guess who is signing up to be a hero." Blazer's eyes immediately light up and she gives you big hug, causing the coffee in her hand to teeter around the cup's edge. You do your best to stay out of the splash zone as you hug her back.
"Em, that's amazing! It's good to have you on board," she congratulates as she pulls you close. When she draws back you see her smiling sincerely. "I mean, don't get me wrong - I will miss your thorough reports. But I know you can do so much more good as a hero." Something you always appreciated about your boss was how easily she managed to uplift people. With one sentence she had managed to erase any doubts about your new position. "Come in, we can talk more in my office," she says as gestures to the door with her shoulder. You walk in and make your way to a chair as Blazer settles in hers.
"You can thank Robert for this. He is very..." you struggle to find the right word as memories of last night replay in your head. "Convincing," you finish. "I had some... work to finish yesterday so I stayed late. Ended up running into him and we got to talking."
"Wait, last night? After hours?" Blazer suddenly interjects.
"Yeah, I was surprised when he fou- was still there," you correct yourself before revealing that you were found sneaking in from a secret mission. You catch Blazer looking away with a sad expression before she notices you looking. The expression is quickly replaced with a polite smile that doesn't reach her eyes. "Everything okay?"
"Oh, yes. Yes. I am glad he was there for you. He really is... a great guy," Blazer explains, but she still has a far away look in her eyes.
"He is," you agree, trying to figure out what had the toughest woman you knew looking so pensive. "I can see why you hired him. He might just be able to talk the Z-team into being real heroes." Blazer finally seems to snap back, giving you an amused smile.
"At the very least, he can talk more heroes into joining," she teases, and you are relieved to see she was fine. "I will get your papers approved by the end of the day. In the meantime," Blazer spoke as she snapped back to work mode. "You can get acquainted with your team and prepare for your first shift." You take a deep breath as your decision to become a hero finally feels real.
"Right. Guess I should get changed before officially meeting everyone," you state, looking down and mentally saying goodbye to your trusty SDN button up.
"I'll tell Robert to gather everyone before they start their shift. He can help you settle in," your boss detailed, already typing away on her tablet. Your felt your heart beat faster, and you weren't sure if it was from anxiety about joining a new team or excitement at working with Robert Robertson. You nodded in response.
"Better get to it then," you replied as you stood up to leave.
"Oh, and Em," your boss called out. "Good luck. Even if you don't need it." The blonde heroine smiled and you smiled back. Nothing like the trust of the city's idol to steel your nerves.
You were already well aware of all the facilities provided by SDN, but you never actually had a need to drop by the hero changing rooms. As you stepped in to the busy room you took note of all the heroes employed by the company. Some you had already seen before while others you had never laid eyes on before. Some you literally couldn't see due to their powers. When you realized you had been staring for too long, you made your way to the nearest bench. A locker wasn't assigned to you yet, so you made sure to grab your backpack from the roof before coming. You luckily remembered to grab your backup villain clothes, which were just a cheaper alternative to your usual ones. The turtleneck was not as flexible and the pants didn't have as many pockets but it would do. Fortunately, your boots had survived last night's encounter with minimal acid damage. You made sure to keep your back out of eye shot of any heroes present, but you couldn't stop yourself from reaching for the missing augment on your back. Your fingers traced the metal ring outlining the empty space. It was odd to reach out and find nothing but empty space instead of the extruding metal disk.
As more heroes started pouring into the room, you quickly finished getting dressed. You stopped by the bathroom to look into a mirror. It was odd to be in uniform but not have your helmet on. With your neck already covered, you had no reason to keep your hair down. You held it back the way you usually do and examined your new look. You viewed yourself from different angles as you got used to seeing your own face while being Mindsnap. Were you still Mindsnap? The thought of what to introduce yourself as to your new team was quickly erased once your phone screen came to life to announce a new message.
BB
They are on their way. Robert is already waiting for you in conference room 2.
You swallowed nervously as you read it. The fact that you already knew a couple of your teammates was a little a reassuring. Robert being there was more so. You steadied your nerves, taking one last in the mirror before grabbing your things and heading out.
Once you stepped into the room you spotted Robert already seated, busily tapping away at his phone. His mere presence made you relax, and you quietly approached the dispatcher.
"What do you think?" you ask once you are in front of him, causing the distracted man to look up in surprise. "More presentable than last night? Or did the acid stains add more character?" Robert looked you up and down, taking in your new appearance.
"Can't really say I was a fan of those. Heroes are generally more inspiring when they don't look like they got beaten up by a villain" he shrugs before smiling. "You look good," he adds, and the simple compliment is enough to make you feel a little flustered. Luckily, you didn't have to endure the following silence for long.
"Bob Bob," Flambae exclaimed as he entered the room, making you turn around. "So it's true, we are getting a new member? Someone better than wet boy?" He took a moment before realizing who you were and his face lit up. "Oh shit, you coming out of retirement or something? Do I finally get to know what the fuck your power is?" Before you could reply another figure entered the room.
"Sup," Sonar greeted while drinking out of what appeared to be a blood bag. "Did I hear you say a new team member?" The bat man asked as he looked at you and recognition made him frown. "Goddammit, now I owe Prism fifty bucks." You raise an eyebrow, unaware that there were already bets about you joining.
"You... knew I might join?" You asked the Bat hero, exchanging a look with an equally confused Robert who just shook his head.
"Dude, you bring it up every time I see you," he replies while typing something on his phone.
"Sonar I have talked to you like once in the last month," you stated.
"I didn't say you talked to me, just that you did talk about it. A lot." He continues typing, laughs a little at something on his phone, then goes back to typing. Just as you are about to ask if anyone else knows, a red portal materializes next to him. Malevola steps through, followed by Prism, with the later busily typing away on her phone.
"Told ya. Who would choose a musty ass desk job over hero work?" Prism stated, holding her phone up to take a selfie with you in the background. You hear the picture being snapped before you have a chance to react. Before correcting Prism on prefering the musty ass desk job, the conference room door flies open as the towering figure of Golem walks in.
"Sup," the muddy Giant greets as he walks to the furthest corner in the room. He makes no more comments after that as he sit down. Waterboy shuffles inside quietly after him, followed by a silver-clad woman you rarely see talking with the short man you saw before. You catch Waterboy looking at you, but when you make eye contact he offers you a small wave and pursed smile before looking away. The room is quickly filled with voices as the heroes begin chatting away. Robert tries to calm them all down but they don't pay him any mind.
"Funny how you never mentioned joining before," a voice makes you jump and you turn around to see Visi materializing into existence. She was already seated, chewing gum and tapping away on her phone. You take a seat beside her, but she doesn't look up, seeming to purposely ignore you.
"It wasn't really a choice until recently," you answer as you look around the room. Flambae and Prism were discussing some celebrity's recent fashion choices. Sonar was chattering away about some new crypto currency as Malevola just listened and shakes her head. The hero duo who entered together were whispering way in one corner of the room. A week ago, you couldn't imagine you would be in the same room as all these reformed villains. That you would join them. Visi opens her mouth to say something, but is interrupted by Robert clapping his hands together to silence everyone.
"Alright," the dispatcher spoke loudly. "Everyone take a seat so we can get this over with." The side conversations kept going, but everyone who was standing sat down. "We are only doing this because I don't think most of you are familiar with your new teammate." At the word teammate, all eyes turned towards you. Despite your best efforts, you could'nt help shrinking into your seat a little. You heard a Pop from beside you as Visi continued chewing her gum.
"This is..." Robert gestures to you, unsure of how to address you.
"Em," you clarify. "For now, you can just call me Em."
"Right. Em will be joining the Z-team as a new member," the dispatcher finished.
"So, what, you like a former villain or something?" Prism asked, her attention on you instead of her phone.
"Oh, yeah. I am... also a former villain," you confirmed. You weren't really sure how much to share with your new team, but didn't see the harm in sharing at least that much.
"Weren't you like an office worker before this?" It's Sonar who questions you next.
"I was, yeah."
"So you just quit crime and applied for a job at SDN? Just like that?" It's Golem's turn to ask, and you blink in surprise.
"It... wasn't exactly that cut and dry," you attempted to answer. It was obvious they would question your sudden shift in career. Why didn't you prepre for this better? "I didn't exactly... have a choice before. When I finally did, I came to SDN for help and they kindly offered me a job. There wasn't really a Phoenix Program then, so I just got a regular one. Now that the Z-team exists, the company felt my powers were better utilized here," you shrugged. You looked at the faces around you to find them fully unconvinced.
"And what exatly are your powers...?" Malevola asked genuinely.
"She can move shit with her mind," Visi answered before you could, and their looks turned from suspicion to curiosity. You decided to take advantage of this by offering a demonstration. With a bit of focus and some hand gestures, you startedd to raise every chair in the room, seated or otherwise.
"Woah," Waterboy exclaimed as he tucked his legs and arms in. The other heroes added their own expressions of surprise as you softly placed them back down.
"Show off," Visi muttered from beside you, but she had already failed to hide her own shock.
"Well, now that everything is clear, you can get back to work. I expect you all to play nice and work together to keep up the progress," Robert ordered as everyone got up and began heading out. Visi disappeared before you could utter a word. You were about head out too when you felt a hovering presence stop beside you.
"So, can you lift me?" Golem asked as he looked down at you. You stared in confusion into the empty eyes of the giant.
"I am sorry?"
"I was just curious. Can your powers lift something my size?"
"Uh, yeah. I can carry stuff much heavier than you, actually. Just not for very long." And not as much as before, you noted to yourself.
"Nice," the hero muttered before walking away. Eventually it was only you and your new dispatcher left in the room. You stood beside him as you watched the Z-team walk away.
"Think that went well?" You asked him, unsure of what to make of the meeting.
"As well as it could have gone," he shrugged. "Could have gone much worse."
"That's a good point," you mumbled, still thinking of their reactions. Did you reveal too much? Not enough? Would they be able to trust you? Can you trust them?
"Hey," you snapped out of your thoughts as Robert spoke. "Don't overthink it. I made a much, much worse impression than you did and it turned out fine. At least you actually got to meet them first."
"You had to jump right in, huh?" You asked as you recalled Robert's first day at work. At least no one punched you so far. Though with Visi you never knew.
"Straight off the deep end, yes." Robert looked right at you before continuing. "You ready to be a hero?"
"Not at all," you replied with a smile. "But I am ready to give it a try."
AUTHOR'S NOTE: An update! Rejoice! I am sorry this took so long, but between being busy finishing up things before the holidays and some buttons on my keyboard breaking, writing was kinda difficult. I am also trying to figure out how the actual game missions will play into the story. I wanna use them as an opportunity to flesh out Mindsnap's relationship with the Z-team. Thanks to everyone who sent an ask because they really helped! I am gonna keep doing them because they are fun and easy to get done, so feel free to send me more! The next chapter will is going to finally get into the action. Merry Christmas!
I must confess that I have not actually played Dispatch (yet ☝️)
HOWEVER
I've seen enough of that watery beanpole to know I'm in love, soooooooo...
Waterboy x a reader with electricity powers? Specifically, both of them worried that water and electricity don't mix well, so they haven't actually touched each other like, skin on skin (maybe they both wear gloves idk) until they decide they want to try kissing for the first time. So they're both super nervous, closing their eyes and bracing themselves, Waterboy gives reader the tiiiiiiiiniest peck on the tip of their nose and...
Either
a) nothing happens, maybe a few literal sparks but nothing disastrous and they're free to cuddle ad infinitum
Or
b) reader's powers go haywire and black out the whole SDN building
Whichever is funnier
Welcome to the Waterboy cult! It's been a while so I hope you got the chance to play the game so I don't spoil anything by mistake. Enjoy!
Waterboy x Reader with Electric Powers 💧⚡️
"Heh, you think tha-"
You zap the overconfident villain with a little more power before he gets the chance to finish. This time he falls in a heap to the ground.
"Tried being gentle," you shrug, talking to no one in particular. You wait until the cops arrive before heading back. An empty rec room awaits you at the SDN Torrence headquarters. Grabbing a soda from the vending machine, you fall into a nearby couch. You barely drink get a sip in before your phone buzzes, but the name that shows up on the screen makes you smile.
WATERBOY
Are you back yet?
You typed back a response.
Yup in the rec room
It only took a couple of minutes for your newly minted boyfriend to show up. You smiled at him as he walked in, immediately noticing his face lighting up.
"H-hey, how did it go?" Waterboy asked, walking up to you. You stood up to meet him halfway.
"Pretty smoothly," you replied, fighting the urge to give him a peck on his bright, red cheeks. "How about you?"
"I, uh, got back a- got back a bit ago," he muttered back. It was hard to ignore his eyes flitting back and forth to your mouth.
"Is something on my face?" You asked innocently, rubbing at your lips. The blush coloring his face grew a few shades darker.
"N-no, it's not- there isn't- your face, it's, uh, nice, and c-clean- there is nothing on it," the shy hero answered, his flustered speech patterns getting stronger. "I just... I wanted to- we haven't, uh, k-kissed yet..." The last few words were barely audible as the hero's voice got smaller and smaller. Your eyes grew wide upon realizing just what your boyfriend had in mind. He seemed to be even more ambitious than you.
"Oh, yeah, I guess we haven't," you noted, feeling you own face grow hotter. The only skin-to-skin contact you had with the man in front of you sent sparks flying. Literally. And you had only tried to hold hands. You couldn't imagine what an actual kiss would do.
"Do- do you want to?" Waterboy stared at you, big, blue eyes open wide and imploring. You were sure he had no intention of pressuring you into anything, but looking back at him you couldn't imagine saying no.
"Of course, but you know what happened the last time we even touched," you say as you hold up a hand and let out a few sparks for emphasis. "I don't wanna hurt you," you mumbled while looking away.
"Y-you won't," he replied, grabbing your gloved hand with his own. "And- and even if you do, it would be worth it." You looked back at him to see him smiling reassuringly. You held his steady gaze a for moment before giving a small nod.
"Alright," you smiled back, "let's give it a try." You took a deep breath before leaning forward and closing your eyes, waiting for Waterboy to do the same. His warm breath fanned across your skin before you felt his lips on your... nose?
Your eyes flew open in surprise to see your boyfriend's face hovering just in front of your own.
"I thought we sh-should do a test run first," he explained in a soft voice, making you laugh.
"Well, looks like we are all good to go," you replied happily at the lack of consequences to his experiment. There were no sparks flying anywhere. At least, not literal ones. You closed your eyes again, this time placing a hand on his face. Waterboy returned the gesture, placing a hand on your waist to draw you closer. You both practiced caution as you slowly drew closer. His lips mets yours softly, and you held your breath for a second before fully leaning in.
You felt the electeicity surge within you, but focused on simmering it down. You could tell the lights were flickering all around the room, but you could live with that. His lips were soft, softer than your own, and unsurprisingly moist. The kiss lasted only a moment, but when you pulled away, you saw your stupid grin reflected on your boyfriend's face.
"It seems," you started, your faces still only inches apart, "we were worried for no-"
Before you finished your sentence all the lights in the room suddenly flared before exploding, covering the room in darkness and shattered glass. Neither of you moved until you heard noises outside as people clamored over the power outtage. You could barely make out the outline of the wet hero in the dark.
"Worth it," you finally stated. You didn't have to see your boyfriend's face to know it was glowing bright red. Figuring the worst had already happened, you pulled him in for another kiss. Waterboy hesitated only a second before embracing you back. Neither of you paid attention to the commotion outside, choosing instead to take full advantage of the dark.
May I ask for a Golem x gn!reader drabble or headcanons? For example, the reader works at SDN (either as another dispatcher, intern, or assistant) and keeps "accidently" running into Golem (like getting into the same elevator, picking the same spot to have a break, or even just using the same vending machine) and chat away with each other untill they both forget why they where there in the first place.
(You don't have to use my example if you don't want to or if you have a better idea.)
I don't know why but I can really imagine Golem with a shy reader so I leaned into that. Also I LOVE the accidentally running into each other trope. I did it as headcanons to show the evolution in the relationship hope that's okay!
Gn!Reader x Golem Bumping into Eachother
You were a regular office worker at SDN. You saw the heroes come and go often but they weren't really a big part of your job.
Until him.
You can clearly remember the first time you saw the giant, earthy hero.
How can you not, when he was coming straight at you. Or rather, at the elevator you were in.
The shock at seeing the giant barreling your way froze you in place. Too frozen to notice the elevator doors closing.
In an attempt to stop them, Golem reached out a hand in between. He might have underestimated his strength, however, because he ended up denting them.
But at least he did manage to keep them open, and they were still functional.
You stared with wide eyes at the behemoth as he stepped into the elevator beside you.
You could tell he was trying his best to give you some space, which meant you were only slightly pushed into the elevator wall.
Neither of you spoke. You only heard him utter a Sorry as he stepped out.
Since then you had a few run ins with him, slowly piecing together who he was.
He was a hero in the Pheonix Program, meaning he was preciously a villain.
It was hard to believe that's the case once you ran into him feeding some kittens in the parking lot, however.
Even harder when you watched him lend a helping albeit damaging hand when someone's order got stuck in the vending machine.
You even caught him on the news once helping rebuild a playground that was destroyed in a villain showdown for an elementary school.
Hard to picture someone as a villain when you see children jumping and swinging on them.
It wasn't until you ran into him in the garden one night after hours that you finally spoke.
It was your favorite spot to relax after work, a little hidden corner in the SDN courtyard, and Golem just happened to swing by.
You offered him a piece of your snack, and he silently accepted it.
He took a spot on the ground beside you while you awkwardly sat on a bench.
You brought up the playground and he casually remarked that it was nothing.
You tried to start a conversation a few times, and each time he gave you a short and to-the-point answer.
You thought he didn't want to talk until he finally stood up to leave.
Thanks for the food. I'll catch you later.
His response left you as surprised as the first time you saw him.
Ever since the your interactions grew little by little.
Greetings whenever you crossed paths, small talk in the break room, exchanging numbers, sharing memes and work anecdotes.
The evolution in your relationship felt natural. Before you knew it, Golem had become a regular part of your everyday life.
Your third shock since meeting him came when he finally asked you out. It was the first and last time you had seen the big guy nervous.
But who were you to say no to the man who had quickly become the best thing about your day?
Waterboy in spa???? The only spot his wetness wouldn't be out of place. I would be very thankful if you'll write something on this!
Yessss Waterboy in his natural habitat! I tried to imagine this spa as a place that caters to heroes so he would have no worries about getting anything wet.
Waterboy Spa Day 💆♂️💧
Waterboy looked up at the sign of his favorite place. Locus Aquae, a hidden little gem in the city of Torrence. He took a deep breath before stepping in. The reception welcomed him with soft music and the faint smell of eucalyptus.
"Welcome to Locus Aquae. Do you have a reservation, sir?" The short woman behind the desk greeted him with a calming voice.
"Y-yes, I call- made a reser-reservatiom yesterday. Under, uh, the name is Waterboy", the hero tried to answer. The receptionist typed a few things on the screen in front of her before smiling back.
"Of course, go right ahead, sir," she spoke as she gestured towards a door. Waterboy smiled back and stuttered out his thanks before walking in.
The music in the reception faded away as he walked further into the spa. The place was quite empty, just as the shy man had hoped. It was eleven in the morning in the middle of the week. Waterboy had taken time off from work just for this experience.
The hero wasn't a huge self-care person. It wasn't until his grandma gifted him a coupon to a smaller local spa that he saw the appeal. It was weird at first to strip naked and have people touch him all over but it was actually... nice. He didn't have to worry about his powers getting water on everything and ruining it. Everything was already wet.
The first time he came to Locus Aquae, he felt lost and out of place. It was the fanciest place he had ever ventured to on his own. The experience was so pleasant, however, that he couldn't help coming back again. And again. This was already his seventh time.
Waterboy made his way to the changing rooms easily. He unlocked the locker assigned to him by the receptionist to find a white robe already prepared. The wet man took his time changing in the empty space. His body didn't take long to dampen the robe as well, but it wasn't like he was keeping it on for long.
He made his way to the steam room next. It was a ritual at this point. First, he relaxed the tension from his body for at least half an hour. Next was the upper body massage - he still didn't feel comfortable with anything lower than that. And lastly, there was the cleansing facial treatment. Waterboy may have oozed water out of his very pores, but he still found it to be soothing.
As the hero undressed and sat down in the steamy room he felt his shoulders slowly relax. There was nothing like being able to just let go and not worry about ruining anything by getting it wet. If anything, his powers just added to the experience. The heat didn't even bother him, a perk of being super powered.
He simply laid back and rested his head on the wooden bench. He didn't think about work or replay his latest embarrassment in his head. He didn't think about anything at all. He simply soaked in the relaxation, breathing in and out. It was so relaxing that he almost fell asleep.
When he felt like enough time had passed, the hero made his way to the next stop on his program. He knocked on the massage room's door before peeking in. An older gentleman was already waiting with a kind smile.
"Mr. Waterboy, welcome," the masseuse greeted him with warmth.
"Ri-Ricardo, hi, um, hello," Waterboy greeted back as he made his way in. "You don't have- no need to call me Mister. Just-just Waterboy is fine," the hero explained as he took off his robe and laid down. The massage table, like most of the spa, was waterproof, something he was very grateful for. The older man gave a deep laugh as he oiled up his hands.
"As you wish, Waterboy," the masseuse replied as he began massaging the man laid before him. "Your shoulders are finally becoming less tense. Are you getting more comfortable at your job?"
"Yeah, yeah, I-I guess- suppose. I think I am actually doing some good now- better, at least," Waterboy replied thoughtfully. Ricardo was the first masseuse he met when he came to Locus Aquae. He was so tense at the beginning that the massage felt like torture. He had to hold back from sceeaming out in pain with every stroke across his back. Ricardo had taken note of the hero's suffering and kept the pressure to a minimum. Eventually, the hero relaxed enough for the experience to be pleasant. Waterboy made sure to pick Ricardo as his masseuse ever since.
"That is good to hear. I am sure you were already quite wonderful at being a hero," Ricardo assured, and Waterboy felt his face heat up. He was glad to be lying face down as he mumbled out his thanks.
The rest of the massage proceeded quietly. Waterboy was so tranquil he didn't even feel awkward when he greeted the aesthetician who would do his facial treatment. He simply basked in the continued pampering. By the end of his spa day, Waterboy felt like he was floating on cloud nine.
"Goodbye, sir. I hope you enjoyed your time," the receptionist said to the hero on his way out.
PING
"Yes, thank-thank you. It was very enjoyable," he replied with no stuttering. The hero walked out with his shoulders held high. The air felt fresher and the sun felt brighter, and nothing could possibly ruin his good mood.
Waterboy pulled out his phone as the sound of a new message rang out. Flambae had sent an image to the Z-team group chat. An image from their last group outing wheb Waterboy choked on his noodles and spat them out right as the fiery hero was taking a selfie. His teammates didn't take long to reply.
FLAMBAE:
This might be my best work yet
GOLEM:
Lol
SONAR:
Yoooo I forgot that happened lmaooo
MALEVOLA:
I can't even remember what caused this
PRISM:
Girl it was your stripper story
MALEVOLA:
Righhhht forgot about that
Waterboy sagged as his teammates continued to make jokes at his expense. So much for his good mood.
PLZ! Sonar with a partner thats extremely kind but gets very fiery when provoked. They keep sonar in check when he's acting out but is very caring and gentle with him. Their love language is probably Acts of service and lots of compliments! Btw I really like ur writing!!! Its so cute!!
Aw no one has called my writing cute before thank you! I think someone like that who keeps Sonar in check would do him some good lol. Enjoy!
Reader who is kind but fiery x Sonar 🦇
When Sonar first met you he thought you were a sweet, kind angel who couldn't hurt a fly.
He liked being around you because you would always spoil him rotten.
Every time he successfully completed a mission he couldn't wait to tell you so you would shower him in compliments.
Somehow you always had a treat for him too and always knew where he misplaced his stationery.
He felt comfortable making all types of jokes around you, knowing you would let it go eventually.
It wasn't until he crossed a line that he saw your other side.
In a single moment your whole demeanor changed. Your eyes turned cold and your smile was replaced with a frown.
Your voice was ice cold as you let him have it. And the moment you were done you turned around, not giving him a chance to reply.
Sonar simply stood there, frozen in shock. He didn't know it then but that was the moment he really fell for you.
He was used to people either liking and putting up with him or disliking him from the jump.
The idea of clear boundaries was kind of new to him. Also kind of hot when coupled with how nice you usually were.
It doesn't take him long to muster an apology. He isn't even sarcastic when he makes it, just kind of awkward.
Since then he learns to behave better. He is desperate to get back in your good graces.
He really missed the good boy chin scritches you used to give him.
He does however enjoy seeing you go off on other people. It's his new biggest turn on when it comes to you.
The second he hears someone say something he knows isn't okay with you he grabs his coffee and settles in for the show with the biggest smile on his face.
hiii! could you do a golem x reader please? gender neutral or fem. but nothing specific in mind, just freestyle i guess 😛🙏🏾
I am surprised by the amount of Golem asks I actually got lol. But yes, I can freestyle some headcanons about dating Golem!
Gn!Reader x Golem headcanons 🗿
You would never have guessed you would be dating a sentient pile of mud even if your life had depended on it.
But what can you say? Golem is sweet, caring, protective and a lot more than people give him credit for. So what if he wasn't a carbon-based life form.
You met him at your favorite café. It was hard not to notice the hulking figure of the giant as everyone made room for him to pass through.
He was having trouble grabbing extra sugar and you helped him out.
You struck a conversation and from there the rest, as they say, is history.
It took some time as you both figured out how things would work, but once you did it was smooth sailing.
Golem is great at keeping track of the things you like. He shows interest and buys you the best gift.
He surprises you with the variety of his own hobbies and interests. He never pressures you to join in, but you know you are always welcome to.
He also never takes for granted all the effort you put into adapting your life to fit him, from investing in more sturdy furniture to making sure your date spots can accommodate his size.
Golem isn't an expressive person, so don't expect him to shower you with verbal affection.
He is always straightforward, however, and shows you love in different ways.
You can rely on him with any task, even if it isn't his forte. He can also notice when you are in need help and offers it before you even ask.
You never have to worry about something being out of reach when your hero is around.
Hello! I am new to Dispatch and love it! Trying to find request blogs.
Is it possible to request Robert with an Asexual S/O? if not that's okay.
Their okay with kissing, cuddle and being close and being affectionate in general.
Technically Robert isn't part of the Z-team, but who am I to say no to writing about our favorite dispatcher? That being said I haven't written an asexual character before so sorry if this isn't that good. Welcome to the Dispatch Fandom!
WARNING: Ironically, mentions of sex.
Ace!Reader x Robert Robertson 🤖
I think Robert would be cool with an Ace partner. Like it wouldn't really surprise him.
When you tell him he just accepts it right away and asks about your boundaries.
Sex wasn't a priority to the mech hero. He would deal with the urge when it popped up occasionally but it wasn't something he craved.
He appreciates just being close to you, it really comforts him.
Definitely not saying no to kissing or making out though, but he won't push it any further.
Makes sure that even when you are cuddling or spooning he isn't doing anything that is making you uncomfortable.
With time he becomes well aware of what you are comfortable with.
Robert isn't really the type to want to go out all the time. Once you convince him to invest in some furniture, you spend most of your time cuddling while watching movies.
You stood outside the restaurant pacing back and forth. This was already your fifth date with Robert and you were yet to tell him. As you debate bringing it up you spot your date exiting the restaurant. He smiles as he walks up to you, making your heart ache.
"All done. Want me to walk you home?" He asks and you nod, swallowing the lump in your throat. The restaurant was only a few blocks away from your place. The walk is very quiet as neither of you speaks. You are too occupied by your thoughts to notice the man beside you giving you sideline glances.
"So... I had fun," he says, and you slightly jump. "Did you have fun? Because the silence doesn't seem like a good sign." You look at Robert and find him watching you with curiously. The city lights reflected in his eyes make you stop in your tracks. Robert stops too.
"And neither is this... everything okay?" You open your mouth and close it a couple of times before you can finally speak.
"I need to tell you something," you finally say.
You tell Robert that you are asexual and hold your breath as you wait for his reaction. His eyes widen slightly, but that's about it.
"Oh," he replies. "That's fine. I mean I kinda guessed by now, but it's good to know for sure." He looks at you expectantly. "Was that all?"
You blink your eyes repeatedly to make sure this was real. Another nod is your only answer, and Robert smiles.
"Good, beacuse we are already here," he nudges his head at the building a few steps away from where you stopped. When the hero says his goodbyes and tries to leave you grab his hand.
"With that out of the way, do you want to come upstairs? You know, we can actually Netflix and chill," you ask casually now that everything was out in the open. Robert's smile grows wider.
"I would love to Netflix and chill," Robert replies, following you up to your apartment.
Sorry for hitting you up again so soon I promise I don't usually do this gang 😔💔
Buttttt I got to thinking about a reader who yaps a lot...
So imagine this: reader giving some random insane lore drops to Sonar/Punch Up
Like, while they're just yapping away as they do, they just pause for a second like "OH did I ever tell you how someone almost threw a chair at me in highschool bcas I told them they throw tantrums when things don't go their way? Yeah, it's the same person who genuinely got arrested over cheese" (they have never mentioned the cheese thing up until now) or like "one time CPS came to my house and I told her how there was like three holes in the wall hidden by pictures and she didn't even ask to see them" or like "oh, dude, I remember this one time I was getting high with my ex's neighbor and he said he keeps the good stuff put away and gave me a bright saftey-orange gummy. I was high until like 10 in the morning, even after sleeping. Sucker lasted almost 12 hours" or like "one time in middle school, my dad gave me a whoopin with his belt after he made me get my teachers to assign my agenda to prove I paid attention in class, and he figured out I had been forging them for a month. Anything but testing for ADHD, amiright?"
(just some examples)
And the best part is, they talk about these moments like they're funny, smiling and all. Maybe even a couple giggles
Again, don't feel pressured to write these and have a good day/night ❤️
No worries anon, I am flattered you sent another ask! I think these two characters would have very different reactions to insane lore drops so let's get into it.
Reader with insane lore drops x Sonar/Punch Up 🦇👊
👊 Punch Up 👊
Punch Up has been through a few crazy situations in his life, but he doesn't expect the same of other people.
Depending on the type of lore you drop, his reaction varies.
If it's something unusual you experienced, he will be entertained and ask some follow up questions.
Might even share some of his stories that come to mind.
But if it's something that happened to you, he will be very concerned and try to gage if there is something he can do to help.
He will ask things like "But are you okay, love?" or "Do you wanna talk about it?"
He is not pushy though. If you say you are fine he will believe you, but only after making sure you know you can always talk to him.
If it's something more recent that someone did to you, he will be taking the 'proper steps' to deal with it. Just don't worry about it.
🦇 Sonar 🦇
Sonar is not as concerned as Punch Up.
He mostly finds your stories cool and will admit as much.
It is very rare for you to share something that actually makes him speechless.
He is very awkward if it was something traumatic. Will absolutely struggle with what to say and end up blurting out something entirely inappropriate.
He really isn't the type to know how to comfort people on the fly. Will try to explain his way into making you feel better.
When that fails he will try patting you on the back or giving you a hug, which isn't any less awkward.
If you are visibly sad or hurt by what happened however he will get his shit together and actually be a source of comfort.
He only struggles because he isn't used to opening up about his feelings, but if you're being vulnerable he learns to reciprocate.
I have been trying to get back into drawing for a while and this is my best attempt so far. This was my third try at drawing Robert and I am actually proud of it :D
