Dedicated to Bofur and his glorious Hat

As soon as I saw The Hobbit for the first time, I realized that there was something missing from my life -- Bofur’s hat. I scoured the internet for a suitable trapper hat knitting pattern, but for the life of me I couldn’t find one. So, instead I used THIS sewing pattern as a baseline to create a knitting pattern, and I am very pleased with how it turned out. And what I mean is I wear it everyone and almost never take it off. ;)

Oh my giddy aunt, there is a free pattern to knit Bofur’s hat!

I’ve planned this thing out in my head for weeks now and I was able to knock it out in about 12 hours total! I have wanted it since the day I saw it on his dumb lil head and I finally have it, I am so happy Also I have enough material for a second one, it just has some stitching holes from the garment bag that it used to be, would anyone be interested in buying one? I’m thinking 60$ (to cover shipping and things)

Bofur wig is braided, I just need to stick wires in the braids (and also the hat mahaldammit)

It’s because the materials are actually kinda heavy and the interfacing alone isn’t enough to support them. If I stick some wires in the edge it will be right as rain. ^^

That’s a pain. Is it possible that fabric stiffener could help? Though wire would let you shape it how you desire.

Bofur's Hat Pattern -A4 printable version

Download/printable from my dropbox HERE Hopefully it is all fairly self-explanatory. I haven't added overlap to the pieces, so add that in if you like it. The grey lines should just sit on top of each other. To make the hat one size fits all I have made the pattern to fit up to 66 cm circumference. If you are closer to the 55cm size you may want to make your computer print it out scaled down to 95% of the original. I highly recommend printing out a copy and making a paper version of the hat first (you will need to print page 1 and 2 out twice). Just remember that the material you will use to make the hat will be much thicker than the paper. You may also want to make a test run out of cheap material. I am not a professional hat or pattern maker, I made this for myself and thought it would be helpful to others. Make sure you understand the pattern and are happy with the fit before you cut expensive fabric :) If you think there is something at needs to be changed feel free to let me know. As always I am open to questions. If you don't understand something you can bet there are half a dozen others wanting to know the same answer.

About the pattern of Bofur's Hat... how big were the pieces?

The pattern has the scale in the bottom right corner. (the 300mm bit, 300mm = 30cm)I know that’s actually not very helpful if you don’t have a program or printer that can scale it to match.You actually reminded me I have a half finished file I was making that has the pattern to scale and can just be printed out on A4.I’ll try and find the time to finish it today.
