thanks !!! most of my brushes are ones i’ve made actually; i haven’t released a pack of my brushes or anything ever so im sorry

if you don’t want to get into making your own brushes i recommend kyle webster’s brushes – his “mr natural” brush is free and i’ve used it for lineart in the past, before i made my own lineart brush, and his “pastel palooza” is also free and good for texture stuff. he has more brushes for sale ofc, and i do enjoy them: some of his gouache brushes and watercolor ones are nice. the brush packs are not that expensive and are generally worth the purchase.

but i’ll say this – honestly brushes don’t matter that much if you’re a beginner or an amateur/hobbyist; i used the default hard round and like nothing else for years!!! i was still using it when i was an illustration major in college and no-one caught me or called me out or anything… i don’t think i stopped until half-way through junior year. so you super shouldn’t feel like you have to drop money on brushes until you’re ready, you can still totally make good work with just the photoshop defaults.

I LOVE your star wars art!! what is your main blog/art blog? also, how do you get your lines so good? i really like lines like that but i can never get my pen pressure right.. thanks!

as far as lines go: idk, i tend to press too hard actually so i don’t know how to help with pen pressure, but all my digital lineart brushes have a super super high minimum diameter (they’re basically deadline brushes) so that there’s not a huge amount of difference -- they end up handling more like ballpoint pens than brush pens. a lot of digital brushes with a large thick/thin ratio are supposed to feel like brush pens, but imho they end up looking really obviously digital and the thick/thin adds a whole additional element that can be hard to get the hang of. (the usual rule of thumb with thick/thin lines is that thicker lines are best on shadowed areas and thinner lines on areas that are in light -- but then too much thick can also sort of flatten out your drawing and ruin the sense of depth, and i never felt thick/thin lines worked well with my drawing style.)

i’ve also been drawing digitally for like a decade, and sketching in ballpoint pen regularly for five years, so i have a good amount of practice i guess?? practice means i have the confidence/reckless abandon to just draw shapes in a single stroke and hope it looks good sfgfidgddjg 

it’s really different for everyone, but my standby advice is always to just practice!!!! if you’re drawing in photoshop and want to have a deadline brush, you can increase the minimum diameter percentage of your brush in window>brush>shape dynamics, there’s a slider for min diameter
