Today I got my first tattoo and it is hard for me to even put into words how much this tattoo means to me. In high school, I took my first world religions class and fell in love with eastern religion, specifically Buddhism. In college, I took my first Buddhism class and have since written numerous papers on the lotus flower and other Buddhist symbols. To me, the lotus symbolizes mental purity, resilience, and our own personal journey towards enlightenment. I got this tattoo as a reminder to keep growing towards the sun. And as a reminder that we are not defined by our darkest periods, yet our ability to transcend through them, towards the light.
