Harmony Bible
Why do I ship Harmione, you ask? Antis like to claim it’s just the result of movie propaganda, but that’s simply not true. The movies just highlighted the chemistry they already had in canon. People were shipping Harmione long before the films even existed, and I haven’t even watched them beyond the first one. My love for this ship comes entirely from the books.
So, here are some of my favourite Harmione book moments that made me ship it in the first place!!!
Exhibit 1: First, for those who say that Harry HATES spending time with Hermione (from a quote that was taken out if context.)
Harry disliked that he couldn't talk to Hermione and enjoyed the fact that they were back on speaking terms. They enjoy spending time with each other. It’s literally describes that her face ‘shines with glee' at the prospect of spending more time with Harry. She doesn’t do a jig often or make fun of teachers.
Exhibit 2: The kiss
She had never done it before to Ron either at this point. And of course they’re not shy about physical intimacy as there are so many scene countless of scenes where they hug.
In PS, 'Friendship, bravery, and — oh Harry — be careful!' Not only is this the first of many Hermione hug (trademark pending) , but, the first time Harry was ever hugged. They both compliment each other and this scene showed that they both equally admired their different qualities. The trust Harry shows in Hermione when she solves the potion riddle and drinks the potion, and the trust Hermione has in Harry by letting him go alone, it’s just such powerful moments.
Hermione ran from the far end of the ward, instinctively and without words, as soon as she looked up and saw Harry was alright. I can only imagine how anxious she must have been waiting, while it's not clear if she was present at the astronomy tower she must have at least heard he tried to run down the fleeing death eaters by himself.
Exhibit 3: They find each other attractive
wowwww, he quite literally finds her jaw-droppingly attractive.
He certainly would never call her ugly, even when Hermione suggested it to help his girlfriend soothe her jealously. We can see what he cared more about.
"Oh, come on," said Hermione suddenly impatient… "frankly you’ve never been more fanciable."
Hermione acts like Harry's attractiveness is the most obvious fact. Her impatience comes from thinking: oh, come on why do I even have to explain this to you? The attraction feels self-evident to her
Exhibit 4: He was stunned to silence when she complimented him. He couldn’t believe that she thought his words were worth memorising. He takes her compliments in high regard.
And of course, this shows Hermione thinks highly of Harry. An equal.
He compliments her frequently too, even when she's not around.
Again she seems so pleased. ( gleamed and radiant. Common synonyms when she’s around him).
Exhibit 5: This whole scene speaks for itself. why was Hermione beaming at HARRY the moment the narration says ‘bonded for life.’
And lastly
Probably the most heartfelt, romantic and intimate moment they had.
Hermione ALONE shares Harry’s most significant moments of emotional development in the series TWICE. Once when his discovers his father’s connection to his patronus and at his parents grave side where he comes to term with their deaths.
Both of these were about Harry learning more about his family, both times with Hermione. Their causal touches lingering around their waist…
This implies something very deliberate about Hermione’s narrative role in Harry’s inner life, Hermione is narratively positioned as Harry’s bridge from lost family to future family.
Bonus book scene because there are too many to chose from:
In Malfoy manor where Harry describes the sound of Hermione screams as being ‘physically painful’ to him. Harry plots an escape and finally masters the ability of blocking out Voldemort’s mind for the first time (using what is later referenced as the power of “love” in the next chapter) in order to save Hermione. He’s only managed to block his mind once before and it was for Sirius, but for Hermione he mastered it.
That truly shows how deeply he loves her and also proves my point about her being his future family. Wife, perhaps.... 🤭
