I am all for bookstore dates take me there and let’s wander hand in hand
Imagine visiting a neighbour's apartment for the first time and everything they own seems to have a label sticker on it, labeling what it is. Like everything. You're sitting down at their table for coffee when you finally gather up the courage to ask why, exactly, does their toaster have a label on it that says "toaster".
And they just shrug and nonchalantly explain that oh yeah, my roommate is an immigrant, new to the country and still learning the language, so I figured that it'd be useful to have little everyday vocabulary scattered all over in places where they'll see them every day.
So you're relieved that there's a sensible explanation but kind of incredulous because these things are fucking everywhere. You noticed a doorknob that has a sticker saying "doorknob" on it, and the table you two are sitting at has separate labels for "table", "tabletop" and "table leg" on it. Is the labelling some kind of a long-time hobby they keep doing or did they do all of this all at once?
And they laugh like ohh of course not, no way I could've done all of this myself. I let the other neighbour's kids do it. I borrowed two different label makers from a friend, handed one to each kid and told them that the one who can label more things around the apartment wins.
Getting blacklisted from trading with local fae because you've been paying for their favours with stuff like childhood dreams and the memory of your mother's smile, trading their goods for what would have otherwise been absurdly highball prices, but then they found out that the things you've given them in return are worthless because they mean nothing to you. After going no-contact with your family you just wanted to get fucking rid of all of the things that are attached to them, and if you could, you'd give your memories of them away for free on craiglist.
My boyfriend makes a delicious stew that has three different types of carbs in it and it's delicious and having a bowl makes me spend the next four hours trying to fight a nap. Potion of Shut The Fuck Up.
about to say something mean but i feel like every "male-specific" issue is something that also happens to women its just that a lot of you dont seem to see women as people
women are also feeling lonely and alienated from communities en masse women are also expected to stifle their mental health for the sake of perfomance at work, in relationships, for children ect women are also expected to work extremely hard to maintain a perfect body and perfect health and are punished for being fat/having hair loss/having health issues especially those that affect ones sex life women are also insecure women are also neglected by parents and teachers and authority figures women are also scrutinized for having emotions and punished for not meeting the gendered expectations of our class and expected to climb upwards and overcompensate while being punished for signs of poverty and we get the added bonus on top of, yknow, being women. your emotional issues are not a Crisis Attacking Manhood theyre the way our society is fucking built you just dont see women as people
Add a scene where Hermione kisses Harry on the head but take away the book scene where she kisses Ron on the cheek
Dear Diary, I was tearing up when I saw Uncle Iroh having a tea party in the spirit world.
I knew there was a reason to keep watching…
One of the things that really gets me about The Southern Raiders is when you realize that after their trip, they didn’t go back to the camp. Zuko took Katara directly to Ember Island (she’s already there on the beach, when the others fly in). To the place that we know was so special for him - where he felt his family was actually happy. Zuko choosing Azula’s side in Crossroads of Destiny is motivated by that last bit of hope that he could go home, that his family could be whole again.
It’s in The Beach, coming back to the summer house where he finally is ready to face the truth that things will never be the same, and he kind of lets go of that dream (we never see the Ember Island memories again). But also Zuko realizes that he’s been projecting his anger at himself about his betrayal at others.
I think Zuko brings Katara here, before the rest of the group, to give her space to sort through her feelings herself (without anyone telling her what she should feel). And she comes to similar realizations; that her anger at Zuko has nothing to do with her mother and that she’s ready to let go of at least the part of the anger that she was projecting at him (and forgive the very real grievance she has with him instead).
Katara’s forgiveness is the last step for the Gaang to truly become a family, and I just love the symbolism of it happening in the place that Zuko considers home. And there is all the added beautiful parallels of Katara with the sun and Zuko with the moon, and Zuko getting that exact shoulder touch he’s dreamt about during his exile from Katara.
And just as Zuko finds the Avatar in a completely different way than he expected, Ember Island becomes home again, but instead of going back, they move forward, building something new on the ashes of past traumas.
