Bone Broth - Fight Inflammation (part 2)
The previous list mentioned were foods that contain anti-inflammatory properties. The list shown below contains items that are known to cause inflammation. As part of the healthy lifestyle changes that you should consider, there are certain foods that you will want to cut back on or eliminate all together. This list is just a few of the foods that you should remove from your daily diet: • Soda and other sweetened beverages containing sugar and artificial sweeteners alike • Fried foods • Refined carbohydrates (pastries, processed baked good and white bread to name a few) • Margarine • Red Meat – to be eaten in moderation. If you react when you consume red meat then use bone broth as a way to get all of the nutritional benefits without the inflammatory side effects.
Check out new blog entries this week regarding inflammation. #bonebroth can help with this too! Visit us at Bonebrothkitchen.com for information. (at Palmetto Bay, Florida)
Bone Broth - Fight Inflammation (part 1)
Bone Broth can help you fight inflammation. Most of the minerals found in #BONEBROTH help to reduce inflammation, but as mentioned in a previous post, glucosamine is the main reason bone broth can help. . Both Broth coupled with some other lifestyle changes could help you with chronic pain related to inflammation or arthritis. Other suggested foods to include with bone broth in your diet are: • Tomatoes • Olive Oil • Nuts • Green, leafy vegetables • Fatty fish • Strawberries • Cherries • Oranges • Blueberries
Bone Broth - FISH BONES
This is the lightest variety I have made in the Bone Broth family. The following benefits are worth adding this variety of Bone Broth into your own repertoire.
- Fish Bone Broth is rich in bioavailable minerals: iodine, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, silicon and sulphur; - Has gelatin, which as mentioned in previous posts, helps nourish the digestive tract and improve the digestion of food through its hydrophilic properties; - and It is high in DHA and EPA. Thus, it is associated with better cognitive performance. We can further discuss DHA and EPA in a future post as these Omega-3 fatty acids are the most important nutrients for the body and brain.
One final note for those of you that are skeptical, I want to let you know that it does NOT have an overly fishy odoriferous emanation.
We have not added the option for Fish Broth to our Products page yet. The website will be updated with our additional varieties soon. If you are interested in Fish Broth prior to the update, feel free to send a note with your order on line at www.bonebrothkitchen.com or send us an e-mail: [email protected].
Other Health Benefits of Bone Broth
Immune Support and Nutrient Dense - Broths are full of electrolytes. Anti-inflammatory properties inhibit the attraction of neutrophils and thereby mitigate symptomatic upper respiratory tract infections Broth is a whole food source of dense nutrition that builds us up and protects our strength and functionality from the inside out. Rich in bioavailable vitamins and minerals, broth is noted for containing calcium, magnesium, phosphorous as well as sulfur, potassium, and sodium in trace amounts. Broths are well known from anecdotal evidence to assist immune system in a speedy recovery from colds, flues, and other illnesses. Just ask grandma! This has been a remedy (and source of nutritional comfort) throughout the history of homemade bone broth and stock.
Collagen, Glucosamine and Chondroitin
Rather than taking supplements, you can get the benefits through your diet simply by drinking a nutrient packed satisfying cup of bone broth. These are useful therapeutic agents to reduce inflammation and pain in our joints Broths keep your bones and joints healthy. Collagen in broths is a powerful and effective treatment against bone and joint disease. Without any negative side effects, collagen is understood to help decrease the number of swollen and tender joints, in some studies patients had complete remission of their disease.
More about Amino Acids
Yesterday's posts noted that both Marrow and Gelatin are high in Amino Acids. These Amino Acids have been found to be beneficial in various treatments and offer a wide variety of benefits.
Arginine - has been found to be beneficial as a treatment for the condition of sepsis (whole-body inflammation).
Glycine - assists the digestive process by enhancing gastric acid secretion, facilitating the healing of soft tissues and wounds, and acting as a precursor for glutathione which is absolutely necessary for the liver in order to detoxify after chemical exposure. Glycine contributes one-third of the total aminos.
Proline - is a structural component of collagen and therefore necessary for strengthening joints, bones, skin, connective tissue, tendons and cartilage. Proline has also been shown to improve memory and is fundamental for building plasma in the blood. Proline is a good aid for individuals seeking anti-aging benefits.
Both Glycine and Proline play roles in the collagenous fibers built from gigantic proteins containing some 1,000 amino acids each.
It is nice to have this rich homemade # bonebroth around. Besides a nourishing meal or a great tool for a #24 hour fasting plan, it is wonderful to cook with. No MSG or other hidden ingredients. (at Palmetto Bay, Florida)
Bone Broth Ingredients - Benefits of Bone Marrow and Gelatin
Bone marrow is filled with micronutrients, stem cells, amino acids, collagen and lipids (alkylglycerols). These contribute significantly to the immune system and overall health and vitality.
Gelatin is full of amino acids (more on amino acids to follow in future posts). Gelatin is a digestive aid, it normalizes hydrochloric acid in the stomach, assists in the digestion of nutrients and is soothing for those with uncomfortable symptoms of food sensitivity. Gelatin also strengthens bone health and has been used successfully to treat diabetes.
Gelatin: Sip Away Wrinkles & Cellulite. Gelatin promotes the production of collagen, the lovely protein that provides the building block of our skin cells, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkles, stretch marks, and cellulite.

Bone Broth History - Nose to Tail Eating
Bone broths are nothing new. Since the inception of stock (and broth), meat and fish stocks have been used in gravy, soups and stews in American and other traditional cuisines such as French, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, African, South American, Middle Eastern and Russian.
The idea of using all parts of an animal is long established in cultural and culinary traditions. Waste not, want not a/k/a "nose to tail" eating. “Nose to tail” eating means exactly that, you eat the whole animal, nose to tail. Bones, marrow, organs…nothing goes to waste. Traditionally, the bones and organ meats were never discarded or neglected. It is important to keep in mind that there are many nutritional benefits to developing a taste for these lesser known parts.
How to use BONE BROTH
In addition to the many benefits that the nutrition packed Bone Broth offers, there are many ways to use Bone Broth on a daily basis to boost the health value in preparing meals.
Broths are great anytime of the day, any season, anywhere. They add a savory, robust flavor to dishes. As long as the brothy flavor agrees with the desired taste profile of your recipe, you can use broth in place of water.
drink as tea (this is our favorite way to replace a meal each day when we are on the go)
drink after a workout to replace electrolytes
add to soups, sauces, and gravies
braise veggies and meats
use as liquid for reheating food
