Eric Hu
A Thousand Characters
One thousand unique illustrations of each character in a classical Chinese poem that consisted of 1000 non-repeating Chinese characters (千字文). These were drawn with my mouse using a dynamic drawing application I had programmed in Processing then manipulated further in Adobe Photoshop. A separate website where all 1000 illustrations will be online soon.

A Pocket Companion to Books from the Simpsons in Alphabetical Order
the last couple of years, graphic designer Olivier Lebrun has been collecting screenshots of Simpsons episodes that (in one way or other) display books. A Pocket Companion to Books from The Simpsons in Alphabetical Order assembles his 174 favorites. Not included are Simpsons magazines, newspapers and other printed matter, which possibly could serve as material for a follow-up to this project.

Braised Chap is the satirical typeface Jonathan Swift’s A Modest Proposal (1729) should have been set in. Its forms are sourced from various specimen sheets of the Caslon foundry. Its optical awkwardness is the result of flipping selected letterforms, thereby imitating sarcasm’s tendency to flip the meaning of a phrase.

Checked Baggage
2004In 2004, Meindertsma purchased a lot of 3264 objects confiscated from travelers at security checkpoints at the Amsterdam airport. This book is a visual catalogue of those objects, which range from souvenir corkscrews to toy guns. Each copy of the book is sealed with one of the actual objects.

Visual Dictionary. The A-Z Dictionary of Google Images—For the Moment. Repurposing the Oxford English Pocket Dictionary and its 21,110 entries, their directory provides a visual equivalence by way of subbing in the first outcome for each word from what they pulled from Google Images.
