big part of why I stopped fucking with art youtube is because a lot of these guys are industry dudes whose career is specifically crafted around making whats hot and popping in the industry. youtube can in fact be a good starting point if youre new to it and need to learn the fundamentals but I can't stress enough how important it is to do your own fucking thing and take inspiration from the art and people that is important to YOU and what you like.

One tip I have for any artist working in a physical medium is to check the light-fastness of your materials.

Test it yourself or speak to other artists who have also been using those same paints/markers/pencils etc. Many brands do not do sufficient light fast testing on their products, and in some cases straight up lie about the properties of their products.

I see this especially with artists working in alcohol markers. So many who have been using them for years are surprised to find out that alcohol markers are not light fast at all, they will fade, and quickly. Which is fine if you know what you're getting into (scan your works, sell prints, know how to store completed works out of the sun) but I often see a lot of artists really saddened by the fact they cannot hang up their work in many places because of this limitation.

Which is to say, know your materials, know the properties and the limits of those properties so you know what you're getting into.

I imagine knowing how light fast something is would impact the medium a lot of artists choose for any particular piece.

February is right around the corner, which means it’s soon time for Funguary 2025! The drawing event where we draw a bunch of mushroom based characters during the month of February.

Rules are super simple, just draw art related to mushrooms! No need to complete all the prompts, just pick and choose from the ones you feel inspired by🍄
