it's friday, let's rec some fics. the theme for today: Stanford-Era Energy!

here's a handful of destiel fics, some of which actually take place during canon stanford era, and some of which are just young dean and cas with a similar energy <3 idk its vibes today

heard from your mother (she don't recognize you) by rupertgayes. this is THE definitive stanford era destiel fic, which then becomes a rewrite of seasons 1 & 2 but if cas had been there (and amnesiac). SO so so good. like SO GOOD. the way cas's presence changes the events of each episode we get to see feels so realistic and natural and well thought out and it's like watching the early seasons all over again. also jess lives and gets to be a real person!

Dean Winchester's Secret (Angel) Boyfriend by reluctantabandon and Winter_of_our_Discontent. this is set in stanford era in a world where dean and sam weren't isolated from other hunters so are close with the roadhouse crew :) it's an outsider POV as ellen jo and ash get Concerned about Dean's new mysterious boyfriend. Also, Jo uses salt-filled Hula Hoops for trapping demons, an idea so brilliant I have not stopped thinking about it since <3

lord, send me a mechanic (if i'm not beyond repair) by unicornpoe. post-15.18 cas time travels back and meets stanford era dean. beautiful and heartbreaking and tender and famous for damn good reason. baby dean WILL break your heart.

Orion Verse by birdyedwards. takes place in an alternate universe where monsters are mostly common knowledge. young dean is so lonely i love him so dearly. him and cas are intimate weird besties with energy of something more. atmospheric and lovely.

witch hat atelier is great because in the first few chapters it looks like its really just going to be a cute magical girl story about hope and friendship but then you keep reading and its about how fascist societies fabricate a social structure to divide how power and information is disseminated and what life is like as a disabled person in that society. and then its also still about hope and friendship, but if hope and friendship could kill you.

I've always had many thoughts for young olly... his regrets of not being able to help and his fear through the whole process. fear of his best friend dying in front of him and having to lose his memories, but still keeping a brave face the whole time...

I think of him being regretful for many things but never once for loving his best friend, and he knows it'll never change with or without his memories
