Fic idea bt/ s12 and 14 - Lily Sunder and Dean teamup, and it gets complicated really quickly. Dean does the right thing, but there are moments of hesitation, and Lily's too sharp not to see them.

I'm thinking about how Dean reacted to Lily in s12 & s14; the unnecessary rudeness, the borderline hatred, even after learning the truth. The "psycho ex-angel killer." etc etc.

And the thing is, Lily's story and her pain... she's exactly the kind of person Dean feels deeply for.

Even after Dean learns the truth of her loss: of Akobel, of May.

The look Dean gives her is steely.

But the thing is... she's something Cas would yield to. Cas's crimes are numerous, and despite the fact that so much dialogue focuses on the crimes of The Winchesters, the buckets of blood they've spilled, we can assume that Castiel's crimes over the millennium could be like an entire river of blood.

And paying for these crimes... Cas would do it in a heartbeat. Dean isn't enough to keep Cas from his penance, not in Purgatory, not in his daily missions, and especially not... Lily.

CAS: If you leave here... and you find that you can't forgive me. I'll be waiting.

Cas would let Lily kill him without a second thought.

Lily has the power to take away what Dean loves. And Cas would let her.

majorrrrr pet peeve of mine is when people call jack “cas’s son” or discuss him as specifically cas’s like he’s not equally sam and dean’s kid.

like 1) it’s a factually inaccurate. after the first couple episodes of s13 they all become equally his parents.

2) it's so reductive!!! always erases Kelly, who matters SO much to jack and he repeatedly reaches out/talks to her in especially difficult moments, goes out of his way to connect with her through his grandparents, etc. It always erases Mary, who was literally the only one with him that whole time in apocalypse world! sometimes erases sam. and often minimizes dean to either 'mean and abusive' or ‘step dad who doesn’t know how to care for a toddler’ (which. LMFAO. first of all Jack isn’t a toddler. second of all dean is one of exactly two people on this list who HAVE actually raised a toddler, and the other is mary).

3) it gets weirdly bioessentialist (see ‘step dad’ comment above), but with the premise that Jack, like, literally imprinted on cas in the womb making cas his true bio dad?? and in fairness I also love to have fun with the genuinely insane resemblance between misha and alcal, and I’ve made “cas dies in childbirth” and affairbaby jokes, too. I too find late seasons lucifer insufferable and wish I could forget about him. But his biological father being lucifer is a MAJOR thing Jack grapples with and has complicated feelings about, and coming to terms with it is a defining part of his s13 arc! you can't take jack’s s13 “castiel is my father” line on its own as gospel while ignoring all the times he also says lucifer is his father if you're at all interested in jack's actual feelings about his own relationship to family and identity and destiny.

yes, cas is one of jack’s parents. but jack is not specially or uniquely cas’s child, he’s a young adult being raised by a village.

I’ve never understood some people’s obsession over figuring out who Jack’s “true parent” is. Does your mom being your parent negate your dad also being your parent? (Or any parent of any gender).

Cas is Jack’s father. So is Dean, and Sam, and Lucifer, and Kelly is his mother. We never hear Jack call Mary his mother, but he undeniably considers her a parental figure. Now, does Jack have an absolutely identical relationship with each of these people? No! Just like no one has an absolutely identical relationship with their parents. Calling Lucifer Jack’s father doesn’t mean you’re stating he was a good father. It just means you’re recognizing his role in Jack’s life.

Now, calling Cas, or anyone, his only father is just wrong. Calling Dean his step-father is wrong, and calling Sam god forbid an uncle just makes me cringe. Why is he suddenly an uncle just because Dean and Cas are in love? Why do we take this unique, amazing family and shove it into boxes? Why does this supernatural family need socially assigned titles?

I also agree with you on judging the validity of someone’s status as a parent on magical DNA. Ew. I thought we all agreed family doesn’t end in blood, doesn’t start there, and isn’t measured by its relation to each other. Honestly, I don’t think people even realize they’re being discriminatory by doing this.

And lastly, heavy on listening to Jack himself. I’ve seen so many posts of people wishing Jack was born a toddler in the show, and I never understood that. Jack is such a wonderful character, with his own wants, opinions, feelings, personality, and you would want to lose him just so he could become a baby? I guess that would change the dynamic between Sam, Dean and Cas, but what about Jack? How would Jack benefit from that change? Literally in no way, because he’d be gone!

In conclusion, I think people should stop trying to rank Jack’s parents from best to worst and accept that they all are his parents first and foremost.

(Except Lucifer, he ranks worst. The rest don’t though).
