Crime Lord Series by Mia Knight

rating: 8.5/10 for the full series (and it’s not for the faint hearted... legit intense themes in this book and this is coming from me who loves reading mafia books haha)

It’s been awhile since I have written a book review!! and I just felt an overwhelming need to do this review because this book honestly surprised me - i went through so much emotions reading this!

So a little context: usually when I am trying to find a new book to read, I will be drawn to read the bad reviews of the book - to make sure that there are no major deal breakers i.e. cheating. I absolutely hate books about cheating because I don’t believe a guy can redeem himself if he supposedly loves a girl and goes on to cheat on them.... hence a big NONO for me.

however... this book. THIS BOOK. had cheating involved. (just gonna put it out there. sorry for the spoiler) but i guess it was one of those days where i reaaaally wanted to read a romance book + i read Bitter Heat by Mia Knight (and i loved it! and i hate waiting for the next book.... i suggest you wait till it comes out before reading it because freaking major cliff hanger UGHS why do i do this to myself??) and i just wanted another dose of Mia Knight books - hence i decided to keep an OPEN MIND and just read it without immersing myself too much into it and getting emotionally involved with the characters - I HAVE BUILT UP MY WALLS AND I AM READY. 

Crime Lord’s Captive (#1) 

I think this was the book which I didn’t really like both the hero and heroine that much. I think mainly because the heroine came off very whiny? and I guess it really got on my nerves after abit. plus the huge thing i wanted to change in the book was the cheating of the hero.... NOT A FAN would have given this 10/10 if not for that. and the hero was too much if im being honest. he was a major major asshole and i wanted to punch him - really. but the book ended off with a cliffhanger and it made me sympathise with the heroine so much. and in fact, i felt like i was starting to like the heroine because i understood where she was coming from and understood her actions. and also, the series of events were truly SHOCKING and VIOLENT. and i had to put the book down multiple times because it was really too dark of a read and i needed a break. so admittedly, it took me a longer time to finish the book because i can’t be constantly drowned in all this darkness lol.

Recaptured by the Crime Lord (#2) 

i needed to read this book because i HAD to know what happened after the cliffhanger. and i thought it couldnt get any worse than the first book in terms of the violence, but holy shit did it get worse! this was the book which made me actually start loving both the hero and heroine. i felt genuinely connected and understood how in a life like theirs, their actions all made sense. and i actually cant believe im saying this but i think they should be together despite the history of cheating.

Once a Crime Lord (#3)

ok this was the book that really made me love mia knight so much. her writing is so raw, and shes not afraid to write such dark romance with all the violence and gore and make you really experience what it’s like to be in their world. i felt so immersed in the books and it got my heart racing with all the action and violence and i loved every single main character and supporting characters so much - i felt that i knew all of them and experienced everything with them. 

this is one of the best mafia books i have read because mia knight wasn’t afraid to go out there and create a hero and heroine that GENUINELY fit into that world - they are not perfect but yet she managed to make me love them and empathised with them. 

who would have thought? i am honestly glad i kept an open mind and read this series :’) i honestly feel abit empty after finishing the series and felt the need to write about it. its a super exciting read and you will find yourself falling in love with the story:”)

mia knight pls finish your second book for bitter heat because i am soooooooo excited for it!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Not too sure what I felt about this book. I enjoyed the sex scenes because they were very intense and exciting, and who doesn’t love a little BDSM once in awhile. Love the occasional dive into rough kinky sex.

This story is about a girl Dahlia who has a dark past and she was having some money troubles when her friend recommended an auction for her to do, and that’s where she met Lucian, a rich billionaire. They get involved into a BDSM relationship and the story unfolds.

But overall I felt that there wasn’t enough character development. In the sense that yes the story was very focused around the main characters but I realised from reading this particular book that it actually adds colour to the story when you understand the perspective of the supporting characters - which the authors didn’t really do a good job developing the supporting characters. Let me just list a few things that I wished were explained more.

1. Why were Lucian’s parents such assholes? It’s so vague the whole story, and the relationship was emphasised several times in the book that it was bad but like why? It was very vague, no reason for them being assholes, or why the sister wants to maintain a relationship with them despite how they treat Lucian. It’s all so weird. I guess it doesn’t really affect the love between Lucian and Dahlia but it’s still a huge question mark in the back of my mind.

2. The same goes for Dahlia’s mother. I guess it bothers me because there was no resolution at the end of the story and it makes me wonder what was even the point of talking about these extra characters who don’t even have a scene (ok except Dahlia’s mum who had a phone call scene) it’s like the author decided to randomly put these characters in to create this idea that both of the main characters are in fucked up situations.

3. And that also reminds me of Lucian’s ex, it’s like she’s there to torture him but what was her purpose?? Omg and there was this scene in the book where Lucian decided to bring Dahlia out for dinner as a PR stunt and I thought ok maybe this will develop into like a heartbreaking moment where she felt used but after that there was nothing??? It’s like what’s the point of that scene even???

I guess just reflecting on a few wtf moments like is the purpose of this character, this scene, etc made me realise that the author probably just had a bunch of ideas and threw them together to create a story without actually thinking about a systematic manner of character or plot development.

I know I’m being a little harsh but I would just mention that despite all of this I actually managed to finish the story maybe because it was actually interesting enough haha.

I think I did enjoy a few moments of the book but I think how Lucian and Dahlia fell in love with each other all of a sudden was a bit fast for my liking and I think it would have been better if there was more plot development there.

Of course there are some good insta-love stories but this was a 400+ page book and it’s not really considered a short book, so I guess I expected more from it.

I will only give this a mediocre score... it was ok. I will probably only pick this up again when I feel like reading the sex scenes just to spice up my life a little. 😛

Love Story by Lauren Layne

9/10 cried like a baby hahahahah

But I always love stories that make me cry :“) with all the heartache and all.

This story is a second chance love story of two people, Lucy and Reece. Lucy had always loved Reece since she was a little girl, and Reece happens to be her brothers best friend. They had a summer fling but after Reece took her virginity, he broke her heart the next day. Fast forward 6 years later, Lucy has to go to California for her new job, and they ended up having to take the same car for a road trip to California together.

I would have given this book a 10/10 if not for Reece. I gotta admit that he was abit immature at times? He seems to be abit too emotional, reacting to certain situation a little immaturely. But I really did love Lucy. She is such a lovely girl, so driven and so sweet. :”) I’m lazy to write a full review but just some of my thoughts hehe

Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas

Woah woah woah so ok starting off with saying that this book was a big NO-NO for me. 1. It was actually quite boring 2. I didn’t like the hero UGHHHH

And I’m writing this review out because I needed to let off some steam and frustration.

GOSH. Okay I don’t even know where to begin. I think I’ll start by saying I was looking for a doormat heart wrenching sort of romance because I gotta admit that I love doormat heroine romance. I wanna feel the pain and I wanted to cry for the heroine, I wanted some grovelling on the hero’s part. But. This hero was DESPICABLE!

The story is about an arranged marriage between the hero and heroine, but the hero was in love with some else. (And the heroine was in love with the hero at first sight, innocent and all, which I love) Okay okay, it shouldn’t be so bad right? He will definitely fall in love with the heroine as the marriage goes on, right?

The story starts off with them marrying each other and the hero gushing about his love for this other girl. I could accept that. It wasn’t so bad. I would have preferred if the author didn’t write too much about his love for his woman. Like a part of me felt that the whole gushing thing should have been toned down a bit because it would have been nicer if it was saved for the heroine in the later part.

Then the author did this past-present kind of story telling, where the past was 8 years ago (the point they got married), and present where his old love came back as a widow.

I didn’t mind the part where the hero was sad and angry and frustrated (it was understandable because he couldn’t marry his so-called “true love”) at the start of the marriage. I liked the part where the heroine was so pathetic (I liked the doormat heroine as I shared earlier as it makes it more heart wrenching). And I felt that this book had potential because I started feeling that heart wrenching feeling and I couldn’t wait to see how they will fall in love.

BUT THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN.

Throughout the book I kept telling myself. “It’s ok, he’s allowed to sleep with other woman.” And when his old love came back with two kids after 8 years of his marriage, I kept telling myself, “it’s ok, he will soon realise that Millie is his true love instead”. But the problem was – why the hell hasn’t he fallen in love with Millie after 8 years of marriage ??? I don’t get it.

And I can’t stand how much the author kept writing about his thoughts and love for this other woman???? ITS LIKE THE STORY WAS ABOUT HIM AND THIS OTHER WOMAN INSTEAD OF THE HEROINE AND HIM?!

And then as I reached the last few chapters and FINALLY he starts to like her, I’m like, wtf? WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN??? There is 0 development of their love it was so sudden and so unrealistic. I can’t stand the fact that he suddenly realised how beautiful she was, and suddenly realised how amazing she was. It’s like 8 fucking years and you finally see it? It’s a bit unbelievable in my opinion and it makes his love seem so pathetic and unreal and I hate it.

And this is coming from someone who loves Alexa Riley over the top insta-love stories.

So I actually DNF this story as it was such a disappointment and I felt like it as wasting my time.

Surprisingly, I was kinda ok with the whole extramarital affairs that hero had because I felt that he and the heroine was so much like friends instead of husband and wife. Which is a bad thing that author decided to do. Because I wanted ROMANCE I wanted LOVE I wanted to feel like they actually had the potential of falling in love. I loved the heroine but the hero’s character development along with his relationship with the heroine was just BLEH. Bad. BAD. Bad!!! That’s why I just kinda accepted his cheating because he technically wasn’t even in any relationship with her. It was also confusing because in the past they had so many moments together and yet he didn’t like her a bit at all??? And maybe that’s why I can’t feel their love because from all the apparent romantic moments in the past and yet only when the hero is made to choose then he likes her all of a sudden?!

I am having trouble articulating my thoughts and I apologise but I really needed to rant because I’m so disappointed that I wasted so much time on this book.

I WISHED I COULD FIND A GOOD DOORMAT HEROINE BOOK!!!!

Hot Head by Damon Suede

Rating: 10/10 YAS TO GAY SEX

YES YES YES YES!!! I am so tempted to put this under “Naughty Review” but it’s only because the 4 (?) sexual scenes were very very hot. But technically there were only 2 sex scenes (if I can remember). And what I constitute as a sex scene would be penetration or oral sex. Yup. HAHA. And tbh this book is not a naughty book”, it’s more romantic 😄 It just so happens that Damon Suede writes REALLY good sex scenes.

This story is about how a red head Irish firefighter, Griff (isn’t the name so cute?! like a big bear you want to hug!), falls in love with his best friend, Dante, a very handsome Italian playboy firefighter. It was uncomfortable for Griff to admit to himself that he was attracted to Dante and actually falling in love with him. Dante, on the other hand, was having problems finding money to ensure that he doesn’t lose his house… so he decides to do porn on a gay website to earn some money (solo porn performance! not with other men). Both Griff and Dante were always attracted to women at first, with Griff who was once married, and Dante who was a very attractive playboy. 

The cutest parts of the story is Griff’s shyness when he catches himself fantasizing about Dante, and when Dante purposely sends Griff a link to his porn scene, it was hilarious because Griff couldn’t help himself from looking at it and jerking off to it. HAHA. So cute. Big bear being all shy to this… hehe.

I have to admit the story was quite long, and usually I’ll get bored easily, but the author managed to make the story interesting, developing the characters and showing new sides to them. I really love how both men are so new to gay sex and gay romance in general, so they are pretty much virgins. So it makes everything more sweet and romantic as they grow together and discover more about each other. 

My fav scene is DEFINITELY the first time they have sex. IT’S REALLY FUCKING HOT. If you need to get off fast just flip to Chapter 15. You have to flip more towards the end of the chapter. You’re welcome. 

p.s. I don’t think it’s weird if you are a girl and you get turned on by gay sex.

Hello anon!😊 I have definitely came across MANY bad books. I am the kind of person who gets bored easily and tend to have many DNF-books. Even one of the books which I am currently reading – Living In Sin by Jackie Ashenden isn’t really working out for me. Whenever I stop a book and read the book in chunks, it usually indicates my increasing disinterest in it.

I prefer reviewing books I enjoyed, rather than those that I don’t as I am honestly too lazy to criticise a book. Maybe I could do one post of DNFs. But this blog is also for me, in the sense that I want to look back at my posts and maybe be inspired to reread the books I loved in the past. 😊

Bind Me by Anna Zaires

Rating: 9/10 bind me please!!😍

OMG LET ME JUST START OFF BY SAYING HOW EXCITED I WAS WHEN I GOT THE EMAIL THAT BIND ME WAS LIVE!!! I signed up for Anna Zaires’ newsletter, and I am so glad that I did. I immediately got the book and finished the book the same day 😁😄

I would not classify this under the dark read genre as I felt that nothing about it was “messed up” or anything like that. It just Lucas being overly controlling (as usual). The story was more intense than the first book in the sense that there was more action. Check out my review of the first book here.

In this book Lucas really softens towards Yulia, and slowly falls in love with his prisoner. And the feelings Yulia has for Lucas grows too. Lucas decides that he wants her, while Yulia battles with her need to stay with Lucas and her need to escape... Shucks, I don’t want to spoil the book haha. 

This book got me really hot. The sex scenes were SMOKING HOT, and so very passionate... It made me want to reread the Twist Me series & Capture Me again just so I can relive every single moment in those books.

There was a lot of HCFs (heart-clenching feels) too in this book. Seeing him soften up for her... It’s so much more sweeter as a person like him (a killer), someone who you will not expect can fall in love or treat a person (a woman for that matter) gently, ends up falling for someone. I will admit that while reading the book, I frequently imagined myself being in Yulia’s position. Hoping to be captured by him and experience the wild, passionate sex and also the gentle sex... falling in love with a man like him. yikes, it gives me goosebumps. I WANT TO BE HER SO BAD.

The scene which gave me the biggest heartache (apart from the last last bit of the book, don’t worry I wont spoil how the book ended) was him fucking her too hard to remind her of being raped in order to find out the truth (it was necessary for him to do that... and it was extremely painful for him to do that). Truly the biggest HCF in the book.

Naughty Review: Coach by Alexa Riley

Rating: 10/10 my go-to read when I need get off FAST. 

My oh my. Truly the hottest thing ever. Not exaggerating at all. ugh BREEDING. He wants to BREED her. This animalistic-wild-hot sex... Gosh so hot. 

This story is about a 30 year old ex-NFL player, Chris, who moves in to one of his friend's house as he waits for his new house to be built. And that's where he meets his friend's daughter, Megan. She's 18 and is still in high school, and Chris ends up working as the schools football coach. One night, Megan goes into Chris' room to seduce him and he couldn't resist and takes her virginity. 

This whole book is just sex sex SEX!!! And I am saying this in a good way 😉 Chris is absolutely obsessed with her, gosh, even I want to be in her shoes. He can’t control his urges to fuck her AHHH ISNT THIS MAKING YOU HOT?? 😍😋Megan is very innocent, and she’s a cute geek (which makes her so much more innocent to Chris... and he loves it!)

What I love about this book is their age difference. It emphasizes how innocent she is, and once again reminds me of myself, hehe, and my desire to be with an older man. 😍 And the fact that he just retired from NFL means he is VERY muscular and hot... *girly sighs*. I love how hot the sex scenes are. truly 10/10 ✨sex 😍😍 And the other fact that he is the school’s coach (YES THERE WAS SEX SCENES IN THE SCHOOL!!) and he’s living in her home (SNEAKY SEX AT NIGHT!!! and before Megan’s parents come home 😉😍) makes the sex even hotter because of the taboo aspect to it 😊

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IF YOU NEED TO GET OFF!! It’s really my go-to erotic book.

Fav scene: When he fucks her doggy-style just before her parents come home, and he fucks her just like an animal...

Capture Me by Anna Zaires

Rating: 9/10 shivers & blushes😳

After reading Anna Zaires' Twist Me series I knew I HAD to read the Capture Me series too! Truthfully, Anna Zaires is the reason I fell in love with dark reads in the first place. And tbh, all her dark reads are truly my favourites. Other dark reads by other authors don't really cut it out for me because sometimes it's TOO dark that the romance between the hero and heroine becomes a little forced and fake? But in this case, Anna has made romance possible despite how messed up / screwed up the hero is. In the Twist Me series, the hero is definitely much more dark than the hero in Capture Me, so I think those who aren't into too dark a read, but need a controlling dark man, would enjoy this! (And when I mean "too dark" it would refer to things like rape/ extremely extremely rough sex or treatment).

If you have read Twist Me #3, you would have been introduced to both characters in this book, Yulia and Lucas. Lucas is the right hand man of the hero from the first book (Julian) and he meets Yulia on Julian's trip to Ukraine (if I'm not wrong? I get confused with the countries haha) but anyway, Yulia who was in fact a spy, acted as a translator for Julian in order to gain information. I don't know the specifics of the different organisations (and tbh if you didn't read the Twist Me series, the context can be confusing) but Julian is basically a huge weapons dealer (so bad ass so hot sighs!!!!😍 really love powerful men) and this was just one of his trips to deal weaponry. I don't want to reveal too much but Yulia and Lucas eventually have a one night stand (yes there was sparks!! Hehe they were interested in each other), but Yulia afterward betrays him... I mean she's a spy after all. And the story begins.

I really don't want to spoil it, but I can't seem to make the little teaser/summary/pathetic snippet above interesting. But this story is so rich in the sense that there is action, romance, drama... I absolutely loved it. Anna Zaires manages to still capture the dark essence in her writing, when Lucas captures Yulia after her betrayal, but this book was much more "romantic" then Twist Me, as Lucas isn't has messed up and dark as Julian when it comes to the woman he falls in love with. (I'm assuming he's gonna fall in love with her duh hahaha).

And I remembered reading Twist Me and imagining whether I can ever like Yulia after what she did, but the author really knows how to write a story!!! Anna made me empathise with Yulia and really really love her character and wished that Yulia didn't have to experience so much hardships in her life.

And my oh my do I love Lucas. He's rough on the edges (as you learn how he kills for a living, loves to kill actually) but still so sweet towards Yulia. My heart really twisted (another HCF!!!!) when he finds out the stuff Yulia had to go through, and how he gets jealous (so very cute !! 😊😍).

The majority of the book is really just the development of the characters and introducing the spark between them , enticing readers like me to want to read the rest of the story when the author slowly reveals bit by bit the background of Yulia.

The sexual tension between both of them is soooo much and I hated / loved the end of the first book. REALLY MADE ME CRAVE THE SECOND BOOK SO MUCH UGH.

I'll classify this as a dark read because of how he treats her as a prisoner when he captures her. But truthfully now that I think about it, it's not really that dark? Those who enjoy REAL dark reads will probably shake their heads as they read this haha. But I'll still put this under the genre 😊 I'm gonna review the second book soon! Can't wait 😊

Carry The Ocean by Heidi Cullinan

Rating: 9/10 heartfelt tears💕😭

Wow. This book was just WOW. I have never read a book like this before, it’s so very unique, and I’ll definitely recommend it to everyone! It was a great emotional rollercoaster, with so much heartbreak, and bitter-sweetness. It was not just about the great love between two young men, but also love within their own families. Definitely much more than just a M/M romance!

This story is about how a young boy, Jeremey Samson, had caught the eye of Emmet Washington - who happens to be autistic. It starts off really cute, where Emmet plans a way to get Jeremey’s attention (he is very aware that because of his autism, he doesn’t know how to interact with people well, so he wants to make his introduction to Jeremey PERFECT… Very cute!!😍) and soon Emmet finds out about Jeremey’s clinical depression, the story unfolds of how love is able to conquer any obstacle they face. And let me just say that there are A LOT of obstacles they will have to face. It was also very amazing to see how both of them learnt to support each other and see their relationship grow, how both of them are able to make each other stronger and better as individuals.

What I admired about the author was her ability to bring awareness to autism AND clinical depression, without making it pitiful. By writing it from both Jeremey’s and Emmet’s perspectives, I was able to understand what it is like for people like them. The battles they face, the judgements from others… It’s allows me to empathise and put myself in their shoes. It was quite heartbreaking to learn the constant assumptions from strangers that Emmet is “retarded” and “stupid” when they learn of his autism; or how the depression Jeremey has to face constantly in his daily life isn’t a “real thing” to his parents. So this is really what I feel the author has succeeded in doing, which is to bring awareness to these topics.

I really really loved Emmet. He brought so much cuteness & humour to the story with his eccentric and odd (I mean this word in the nicest way 😊) ways to the story. And Jeremey, oh Jeremey, I have such a soft spot for him. He’s so shy and sweet that I couldn’t help falling in love with his character. I just wished I could give him a warm bear hug 😊 Other characters who I also really liked were Emmet’s doctor and Emmet’s mum. They gave so much support to both Emmet and Jeremey😊💕

There were many sad and heartwarming moments in this book which made me tear up reading it (and occasionally bawling my eyes out hahaha 😅) But despite the tears, I really loved the book. The fact that it has brought up so many emotions in me already shows you how great this book is!

Naughty Review: Innocence Series by Alexa Riley

Warning: very vulgar, quite graphic, extremely sexual. You have been warned, so don’t read it if you will get offended. ✨ 

Rating: 10000/10 fucking hot stars for the overall series😍😋😗 Literally the HOTTEST THING EVER. Ok, generally anything by Alexa Riley is FUCKING HOT. Just writing this review and recalling all the hot scenes is making me WET.

I already have a thing for DD/lg themed books, but may I just say that this is really one of the hottest, sexiest, horniest, erotic series EVER. I’ll be reviewing three of the books in this series together 😊 

Book #1: Owning Her Innocence 

This was HOT. Haha. Got me really excited to read about how William Darkling, decided to take matters into his own hands and take Haley’s virginity on her 18th birthday. William is Haley’s father’s best friend…. So you can imagine the age difference. What I find hot is the age difference. I don’t mind if both characters were closer in age difference, but it won’t make the dynamic of the relationship that hot if they were the same age. It’s pretty sexy how William is so dominating💕😏😉 

The sex in this book is really really really hot. It’s TRULY and DD/lg book. Some books which call themselves DD/lg books, only have the occasional calling of “Daddy” during the sex scenes, but this book takes it to a whole new level. William really treats her as his “baby girl” is its so FUCKING HOT. 

My favourite sex scene would definitely be the part when William shaves Haley’s kitten (that’s what Daddy calls her pussy) 😍😚😊 

Rating: 10/10 HOTTTTT 😍😆

Book #2: Innocent Getaway 

This book is a trip William and Haley take together to unwind and relax. It’s not my favourite one in the series, but it still has scenes in the first part which were REALLY hot. I really loved the sex scene where William tells Haley to rub herself with her unicorn stuff toy. FUCKING HOT. I’m getting so wet thinking about it.

However, what I didn’t really like about the book was the fact that Haley acted like a spoiled brat. I get the author is trying to make the character more like “a little girl” but I didn’t like how Haley was portrayed as annoying in this book. I prefer if she was portrayed as cute and naughty rather than weird (at times) and annoying. 

But overall still liked this book as it had really hot scenes at the beginning, but not the best (I’ll pick the other two instead if I ever want to get off 😌😉) 

Rating: 7/10 

Book #3: Innocent Christmas 

Having a hard time deciding whether this book or the first one is my favourite haha. The author really redeemed herself (I’m exaggerating lol, book #2 was not bad) when she portrayed Haley as so fucking innocent and cute that it’s hot. One thing that I LOVE about the author is how she manages to keep the sex interesting in the series. It’s different in each book, the dirty talk, the sex itself, every sex scene is unique, making me want to read each scene in DETAIL- imagining myself in Haley’s position 😉😏 

This is the book when William is going to marry Haley, and William wants their wedding night to be a reenactment of the first time William took Haley’s virginity. So you can imagine how hot that will be. But my favourite part is actually not the wedding night, but the sex the night before. FUCK. oh my fucking god. SO FUCKING HOT. He wanted to keep her little kitten pure for the next day, so instead, he fucks her ass. And ohmygosh was it hot. He didn’t take her hard, just a slow hump in her ass. SO HOT. And I have to admit that was my all time favourite sex scene in the series… So I guess this would be my favourite book in the series HAHA. 

Rating: 11/10 lol. So wet right now, I’m gonna read the book again and get off.

Double Standards by Judith McNaught

I usually rate books based on the amount of HCFs (heart-clenching feels) it gives me. And this book gave me loads. 😇

This book is about a girl, Lauren, who ends up working for Global Industries after meeting the president of the company, Nick, and ends up falling in love. She actually didn’t know that Nick was the president of the company, assuming he was just a man trying to make it in the world, but she was instantaneously attracted to him. She had joined the company with a not-so-right reason (I wont say what, as it will spoil the book, but let’s just say that this reason/lie will threaten her relationship with Nick).

What I really really loved about this book was how much Lauren reminded me of me. How she really puts her heart out there, believing so much in love. Just like hopeless romantic me. She gave up her virginity to him, believing that she was making love to someone who cared and possibly loved her back… However, she soon found out that that was not the case (hence the first HCF!). I am not gonna state every single part of the book which gave me HCF as it will spoil the book, but just writing this out, I am recalling quite a number of HCF moments in the book.

I also enjoyed how Nick had to grovel at the end to earn her heart back eventually. Any guy who treated her the way he did at the start better work EXTRA hard to get her back!! And despite of the fact that Nick was acting in his usual playboy manners at the start, the author gave us glimpses of his soft side and his heartbreaking history, making me love him so much. And it also makes the little things he do for Lauren so much more meaningful and sweeter 😍

I thoroughly enjoyed their light-hearted banter in the office, showing Nick’s playful side made him so endearing. Hehe. And the ups and downs, the push and pull between them in their relationship made the story so interesting… After going through a lot, it made the ending so much more sweeter…. Damn those HCFs!!!!!💕😍

Rating: 9/10 melting hearts 😍 ✨

I’ve been reading a lot of “insta-love” romance books this year. When the hero and heroine immediately fall in love and it’s like wtf? Okay, there’s nothing wrong with insta-love books. (I’m going to make an insta-love book list soon! hehe 😁) Once in awhile I want to read them because they are short&sweet but today I needed something with more depth, but still light-hearted. 😉

And this book was IT! Sustained was AMAZING. It’s been awhile since I’ve came across a book which made me smile and laugh and get all gushy. It left me feeling really good and happy 😊 And it reminded me of why I fell in love with the romance genre. It reminded me of the first romance book I read in primary school which gave me that very same happy feeling  – Love is a Four Legged Word by Kandy Shephard. 

This story is about a defense lawyer, Jake Becker, who met a girl, Chelsea McQuaid, who at that time just quit college to take care of her 6 nieces and nephews because their parents had died in a car accident. The defense lawyer himself is known to be a very cold person who never dates, and is only interested in sex. So you can just imagine how sweet it will be when Jake falls in love with Chelsea. 😄

Something which I thought was very unique is the narration from the hero’s POV throughout the book! For most of the books I’ve read, it is usually the heroine’s POV, or both hero and heroine, but in this case it’s all hero!!! 

I was at first hesitant to read the book, because I tend to dislike stories where one of the main characters has “baggage” like kids (I sound mean for calling children baggage), because I like the idea of how both parties have a “clean slate” and children just remind me of their past relationships. And tbh I’m drawn to stories where the girl is a virgin? I think it’s because I always like to imagine MYSELF being the heroine. Haha I guess I’m finally admitting this to myself. But yeah, I was hesitant, but I thought, why not try this book? I mean I’m so freaking tired of my other books… So yup. I decided to read it.

AND NO REGRETS!

The children actually brought out humour in the book, and I caught myself laughing at certain parts of the book. And it’s very very very very endearing to see the hero softening himself to the kids 😊 and also, learning about the hero’s past, just made me love the hero so so so much more. I love how the author slowly reveals to the reader, through certain scenes in the book (I won’t spoil the book) the softer side of the hero. Even though the hero is portrayed at the start to be a pretty heartless / douchebag kind of guy. So it just makes me fall in love with the hero so much more. And I actually really do like the presence of kids in this story 😊  so I guess trying out something other than insta-love novellas was a great choice on my part.

And the heroine was very likeable too. 😊 She has such a strong character and not at all irritating like so many other heroines I’ve came across. Even though I sometimes like books with doormat heroines because it makes the story even more heartbreaking… Okay I’m digressing.

Anyway, I just really really love the book. And yeah the sex scenes were pretty hot, and the author made it sweet. Like not the kind where it’s just thrown in to entice readers but there was actually relevance to the sex scenes and it made their love so much sweeter. 😊 hehe. I usually skip the sex parts because every book is the freaking same but this time, I didn’t because I felt the love and affection in the scenes that made me blush. And gave that very heart clenching (I LOVE IT) feeling. And this heart clenching feels are EXACTLY the reason why I even love reading romance. I WANT TO FEEL THAT. And also, I’m a hopeless romantic. Haha.

(Sorry that I keep using the word “and” and “but”) Alright, I’m still in the mood to read more books by this author. I FREAKING LOVE THIS BOOK. So even though it’s 3.20 am right now, I shall go find another book to read hehe. 😌 

Will I read it again? Yes, I’ll read my fav excerpts a few times again whenever I want that HCF (heart clenching feel) 😚😊
