So, I am not at all sure what universe this originally comes from but I saw it on Pinterest and screenshot it because all I could think wasâŠ
âOh my god, what if, for some reason, Poseidon got permission to take Percy down into the sea when he was little because of a monster took out Sally (or something). Then, when he was like 13 or 14 Poseidon tells Percy he has to rejoin the world above the ocean to go to Camp Halfblood to learn to be a hero. While learning to use his legs and how to fight when not under water he fights the Minotaur.
This also opens it up for a little mental/emotional whumpage because Poseidon, who has been a loving father while Percy is in the sea, has explained that they canât talk anymore. Not just because it will draw even more monsters I him all ready, but also because it will give him a better chance to fit in. Percy would have a very hard time being cut off from his dad.
Especially in a couple year when heâs on the Argo II and canât even be near water when in the air. Enter jercy!
It would also probably change the way Percy is affected by Mist because he ha loved on the other side of the veil, so to speak.
If anyone wants to take this on as a fix Iâm cool with it. Iâll even beta/proofread for you. I just donât have time to write it. Nor am I all that capable of planning and executing stories no matter how hard I try.

Honestly I think part of the reasons cartoons nowadays are failing is because so many focus on comedy.
Comedy isnât bad when the jokes are actually funny and arenât stolen from the internet.
The issue is that they take action oriented shows (Powerpuff Girls, Teen Titans) and turn them into shows that are nothing more than cash cows for the network that bank on the fame of the original while doing nothing to live up to it. A number of cartoons now fizzle out after so many seasons because they simply canât maintain an audience. The issue is that kids grow up. Eventually the humor and stolen jokes become old to them while cartoons that should have fizzled out are kept going and out on repeat (Looking at you TTG)

I think that is a quote any cartoonist, comic maker, writer, etc. who aims or gears their works towards children should have in their notebook or animation guide. Why? Because itâs true. So many cartoons are lame because they have no growth with the audience or any appeal beyond a young audience that is subject to lose interest at the drop of a hat. For some reason, it seems like cartoon makers are afraid of making a cartoon that has dark elements to it.
Iâm not saying people should make dark cartoons just for the sake of it because thatâs what will appeal to kids. Rather, Iâm saying there is nothing wrong with having a dark theme in your cartoon or having the characters deal with issues. It doesnât even have to be truly dark.
For example, The Powerpuff Girls had an episode that showed the actually dangerous or downside to the girls powers when they moved out of Townsville. They had an episode that dealt with toxic relationships (the episode with Buttercup having a crush on Ace). They had an episode that dealt with insecurities on a number of occasions, etc. all while maintaining a sense of laughter and cheerfulness.
Static Shock dealt with homophobia, Racism (the episode where Static met Richieâs father) and gun violence and bullying (the episode where Jimmy was bullied and brought a gun to school with the intention of killing his bullies). They had an episode where Static had to come to terms with his motherâs death.
Captain Planet obviously dealt with pollution and environmental dangers, but also had an episode dedicated towards HIV and suicide.
Steven Universe attracts a wide range of people to the show due to the variety of issues presented in the show. Grief, LGBT issues, etc.
Gumball is a genuinely comedic show that doesnât rely on memes and jokes stolen from the internet for the sole basis of its writing. The characters are likable and funny without having to be total douchebags to each other.
Shows that attract a wide range of viewers are good shows and they deserve the attention over some cash cow that is a hollow shell of the original.
With so many shows from the 90s getting revivals and reboots, I can only hope that they donât fall into the shoes of PPG 2016 and TTG.
Kids deserve better than just hollow jokes and shells of the original show that they will outgrow. Kids deserve shows that actually stick with them till adulthood.
I donât think anime vs western animation are as different as people claim due to the fact they have inspired and fed off each other for decades (theyâre friends!!), however I do think our environmental messages to kids are⊠significantly and interestingly different
whereas, say Ghibli films express a deep Shinto-based respect and reverence for nature:
fighting for it as a means of both self-preservation and expression of heroism revolving around justice
and a matter of other groups of humans (the government often) going up against the stalwart youth
This is contrasted to western animation which tends to be likeâŠ. hey! look at this funny bat! And pollution is an evil spirit you can fight like physicallyÂ
that isnât to say the west doesnât depict environmentalism as heroic and even involving collective action, Captain Planet is a good example of this
but individualism is still very present, the struggle is stalwart youths versus an individual or individual corporation, hell, sometimes you even get a sympathetic backstory for the corporation and weirdly cool rock song
to be clear, antagonists like Lady Eboshi in Princess Mononoke are sympathetic too, but it is⊠different, Lady Eboshi is trying to survive due to circumstances but it is all of Irontown that represents a system of corruption
In comparison, there is this western idea of corruption coming from individuals rather than systems as well as the fact they arenât trying to save nature because we are part of it, but because nature itself is a person and thus worthy of respect
In Fern Gully the fairyâs represent nature, the Lorax represents nature, Captain Planet is literally just nature, all things we can talk to and relate to, where in Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa the ultimate nature spirits are something you canât talk to and are frankly terrifying, awe-inspiring, and mighty
Western epistemology is heavily rooted in Christianity which says that man has dominion over fish of the sea, fowl of the air, and creatures of the land, ect, which leads to a utilitarian and separate view of natureâ what can it do for us as separate (higher) beings, and the only way to combat this view is to say âactually nature is a person and thus worthy of protectionâ
Whereas Japanese Shintoism has much more emphasis on the idea that we are all part of a whole with nature, nature is the ultimate divine with nothing more important than the other, and something worthy of protection not because we can understand it, but because we canât

this is not to completely bash western animation, it does have other strengths such as emphasizing childrenâs relationship to empathy, empathy toward others in âToy Storyâ and empathy toward themselves in âInside OutâÂ
However, our methods of conveying environmentalism could use some updating and steering away from âgoofyâ and ârelatableâ and maybe a little more terror and awe involved with fighting the good fight
Just got this new set of crayons brush markers. I don't draw a lot to begin with but compared to videos I've watched these are pretty meh for quality. Perfect for me as I'm not a serious artist. I was just messing around to test them out and this was the best my overworked brain could come up with. I've always been weirdly good with candle flames.

When you go to a haunted house, it may seem like youâre being funny by trying to scare the actors or jump out at them when you go through a second time, but guess what? ITS NOT FUNNY.
You pay us to scare you. It is your choice to go, so donât fucking go through if youâre going to ignore the rules and get too close to the actors as a âjokeâ.
These bruises happened because over the course of 4 hours, several people ignored the instructions that CLEARLY stated that they were to wait in the front room until told otherwise. Rather than listen, they ran into the next room and slammed into me- effectively throwing me into the wall. This didnât only happen once. It happened ten times at LEAST.
Then we had this asshole who thought that once I âdiedâ for the haunt, he could pretend to kick me to see if Iâd moved. I, being used to people abusing me- jumped back and slammed my head into the concrete wall.
YOU ARE NOT FUNNY BY BEING RUDE AT A HAUNTED HOUSE. WE ARE PAID ACTORS THAT YOU CHOOSE TO COME AND SEE PERFORM. YOU PAY US TO SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF YOU, SO DONT HIT US WHEN WE DO
I feel that this is relevant considering it is October and more Haunted Houses are opening up. I know it seems funny to scare the âmonstersâ but all you do is hurt real people. So stop.

I work at a Haunted House every October, and have been for the past few years. Our house in particular is staffed by Volunteer workers who are either earning credits for Graduation, or people who know the Family that owns the haunted attraction. In our City, weâre one of two Haunted Houses, so while we open in late September, we tend to get incredibly busy during the month of October and often work from 6pm until 2, 3am on weekends.Â
We do not get paid to help out. Due to our location, we get a lot of drunk guys coming through, and a lot of âfunnyâ teenagers. In my several years working there, Iâve seen Actors get grabbed and thrown, stomped on, kicked, bitten, everything. A lot of the Actors at this attraction are young teenagers, Middle and Secondary School students, so this kind of abuse is terrifying and potentially emotionally scarring.
Thereâs a position half-way through the house we call âPsych Wardâ, and itâs essentially a jump scare. The scare is a corner-room, boxed in with walls and broken windows, that the Actor pops out of and shouts and taunts the people going through. October, 2012, a couple were going through the Psych Ward corner and the scare went off as per usual. The girlfriend of this couple got very startled but laughed it off and continued on. The boyfriend, however, back-tracked and went up to the broken window and punched the Actor in the face for scaring his girlfriend. The Actor, who Iâm going to call Tracy, had a black eye for a good two weeks solid and the couple had to be escorted out of the house and were banned from the property. Ever since weâve ruled that Veteran Actors (someone whoâs been there for 3+ years) are the only ones allowed in this particular Scaring Spot.
He paid to get scared and then got violent when we delivered.
There are so many stories I can tell of ignorant customers banging back on scares and injuring the Actors inside, grabbing props from the actors and hurting them with it, destroying props because they thought it would be âfunnyâ.Â
I just want to raise awareness that the ACTORS ARE STILL PEOPLE. Weâre instructed to get the best kind of scare out of you, sometimes with no pay at all (like this particular attraction), so please respect our work.
We wouldnât come to your job, mock you, and push you around trying to be âfunnyâ. Donât come to our job and do that to us!

I work at a haunted hayride and a guy tried to dropkick me in the chest and knee me in the face because he thought it was funny.
I got in trouble for breaking character to tell him to fucking stop.
Ive been hit so many times this season it has left cuts and bruises. Back in 2015 I was fucking choked and dragged behind a wagon because a lady was drunk and her son had to pry her hands off me because IM NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH YOU OR FIGHT BACK.
Most recently, a customer groped my breasts and twisted my fucking nipples. Apparently, she did it to AT LEAST twenty other actors.
THAT IS SEXUAL ASSAULT YOU ASSHOLES. ITS NOT OKAY.
Most recently a customer fucking kicked me and sent me to the goddamned hospital.
WHEN YOU GO TO A HAUNTED HAYRIDE / HAUNTED HOUSE, REMEMBER YOU LITERALLY PAID US TO SCARE YOU.

If your family or friend(s) force you into a haunting, be upfront as best you can and tell actors as they come up âplease do not scare me i am too anxious / scaredâ and 9.99/10 times we will listen and leave you alone. just communicate with us even though we most often cannot communicate back.
We may be playing monsters, but we are NOT monsters.
Also, please remember to keep your hands off of us during your haunting, and also please try to step in or speak up if you see people trying to touch us, assault us, or talking about planning to touch or hurt a staff member.
We cannot do anything and will most likely get in legal trouble for touching you in defense.
