I love platonic relationships in media. yes give me siblings that would die and kill for each other and doomed siblings whose relationship was never meant to work out so they don't talk to ech other anymore. yes give me friends that act like siblings and friends that act like lovers. yes give me found family. yes give me siblings that have nobody else but each other because they grew up in toxic households. yes give me friends that have only one another. yes give me cousins so close you'd think they're siblings, and siblings that are barely considered family. give me parents who would die for their children but are still toxic towatds them. give me more quality platonic relationships. I don’t understand why people complain about R. F. Kuang using complicated language in her books. I've read Yellowface, The Poppy War trilogy and Babel so far, all in english except the first Poppy War book (as someone whose first language isn't english and whose english level is B2/C1) and it was all more than understandable. sure, there's a word here or there that's I didn't understand, but it doesn't in any way interfere with my reading. it's doesn't have to do anything with Kuang's writing as it does with my education in english, which gave me a vocabulary in some topic while completely sidelining others (but that's a topic for another time).

her use of language is not the simplest one could find, but it's in no way is it too 'complex' or 'complicated'. if a girl, whose first language isn’t english (or even a germanic language) and who has the vocabulary for communicating with tourists, not for reading fantasy and dark academia, can understand R. F. Kuang's works well, almost perfectly, so can a native english speaker.

Doomed siblings have me on a chokehold in a way no trope can ever achieve. Something so gut wrenchingly beautiful about two kids going through unimaginable trauma and coming out damaged forever. I always eat it up. Maybe they stay together and find solace only in each other, used and kicked out by society! Maybe they end up on opposite sides of the war!
