What's your opinion on Tumblr deciding to ban all NSFW content from the site on December 17th?

I think it’s a cop out. Tumblr, or Maybe the owners of tumblr, do not want to allocate the appropriate resources to effectively filter out cp, pornbots, and or stolen/revenge porn. Etc etc. so it’s just taking the easy way out by banning nsfw content so they get around having to actually moderate the site. It’s just shitty, I think for a blogging platform that a lot of people use to express themselves and their interests, this limitation is not only disheartening and frustrating but it simply would push a lot of people away.

That being said, a lot of users on this site are minors. That’s undeniable. Personally, I don’t think minors and NSFW content should be hosted openly on the same site but that’s just my opinion. I think it can lead to a lot of just bad situations and minors interacting with bad adults. For example, there’s a culture of posting nsfw-esq selfies on this website, I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, but I’m saying that upon seeing that as a normal thing, some minors may mimic that and do the same thing and well that’s just not okay because no one knows who is viewing your blog, unless it’s password protected, just an example.

Anyhow, I think the solution to all of this should be, asking and verifying people’s age and only allowing nsfw content and blogs to be accessible to people 18 and up. Idk if they do this anymore but I know when I signed up, it just asked me if I was over the age of 13, no specifics.To get around the people lying about their age thing, just do a google or facebook sign in like most sites do. Also hiring people or redesigning the code to better and quickly accommodate reported posts and take down unacceptable content quicker. Thirdly, a culture of good communication would be nice, where users feel listened to and are actively made aware of site changes etc. Finally, and an unrelated issue but monetize the fucking site already. People’s content is and has been stolen and money is being made off it in other platforms; people’s blogs are being used to sell advertising, etc. etc. This site should’ve done this a while ago but lol run me my money.

But whatever that’s just my onion on all of this. Tumblr is a fucking mess and they’re gonna eat themselves.
