A Whole New World

When Laney did travel, it was mostly for business, but it wasn’t like her to not visit the attractions and natural scenery the town had to offer. Her dad was handling the business part of the trip, she just liked to accompany him so he wouldn’t feel so lonely. 

After confirming her father was okay and had the situation handled, she headed someplace quiet. It was a nice place to clear her thoughts clear, especially with such nice weather. She had reached a nice field full of flowers and plants and a gentle breeze that passed through. She was mindlessly wandering about and humming softly to herself when she spotted a figure not too far away from her.  

“Oh, pardon me, I thought I was alone for a second.” She walked closer, only to stop at the sight of something peculiar. A dog suit? Was he an entertainer for little children? That had to be the case, right? If it wasn’t… Don’t judge, Laney. 

“Uh..A-Are you okay? You’re kind of close to the cliff there…” She called out to the…dog suited figure, hesitantly. 

OFTEN, THEIR TRAVELS TAKE THEM TO THE WINDS. Where they go, who they will meet? It's a mystery even to Woofio, but they suppose things are not always without their cause. Still, he is sure many wonder what led him astray from the mountain path to where he remains now — perched on the precipice of changing history as it has been known, of revolutionizing all that has ever been learned about The Dog™. Indeed, what grand journey they are about to embark on is one beyond the wildest imaginations of any mere mortal.

Beyond that of even his own, they add.

Wind blows, the hand-stitched flaps of the sails beneath his arms catch the breeze. Paws are secured about the branch, hind paws one in front of the other as he eases himself up off of the ledge. One, two. Slowly, steadily, the dog mascot eases himself onto a sturdy branch jutting out of the rock face. They are at the edge and about to stand when a soft voice calls out. Head turns slowly in the other's direction, paws secured about the branch now. The frisbee atop his head wobbles.

"Yes, woof. I'm fine." He turns away again, changing from his crouch to a stand. Arms are at his side. The branch shakes beneath his feet. "I'm about to meet my destiny, woof."

At first when Agate was approached by the person in the dogsuit, she was in love with the cuteness of the whole costume, but when she noticed what it was holding…

“Wh-what? How did you get that in here?!”

How did everyone fail to notice the items that the large dog was carrying around before entering the Safari? Ah, she had failed today. The group was larger than usual and she thought she could handle it, but of course, something like this had to happen to tell her otherwise. This was, without a doubt, a first for her.

“You cannot scuba dive here! Especially not with all of that!”

There were people who swam in the bodies of water here, which she did not recommend whatsoever, but it was hard to keep an eye on everyone in large groups unless it was a guided tour. There weren’t many aquatic animals that came to the park on daily basis, but she did try her best to warn everyone of how much more territorial they could be than terrestrial animals. It was due to the limited amount of water available here, but overall, it was harmonious living between all the species.

WOOFIO WAS A FRIEND TO ALL ANIMALS. There wasn't a single one that he'd ever dream of hurting, but the harpoon was more of an added measure than it was anything else. The goal, of course, was to avoid any and all altercations if possible. And whilst he's aware the ponds and lakes enclosed in the safari area were unlikely to have any whales in sight, you never could really know.

It was lack of preparation that caused Woofio to lose Scuba Tim.

He wouldn't lose another faithful comrade of his.

"Gosh, I didn't think I brought that much, woof." He hadn't even really brought a scuba tank. It was more of a? Snorkel mask. No deep-sea diving for her anymore, no sir! Not after they told him they didn't make any equipment to accomodate the suit. ( It's times like this he misses when he didn't have a body. ) "Are you sure, woof?"

Woofio kicks his hind paw against the ground miserably, forepaws crossed behind his back. "Golly, I didn't mean to cause you such an inconvenience. I didn't know it would be so Terrier-able!"

He says, hesitant at first. Does instinct come from his mind or is that a body thing? Or maybe it's actually neither and they're just weird? "I think it depends on the situation."

“EVERYTHING.” The answer comes faster than he expects. His gaze flicks up, then back towards the ground as he sheepishly tugs at the frayed strands of his hair. “Well, no. That isn’t what I mean. I,” He pauses. “I don’t want to change all of me.” He thinks it would be bad to change too much. There was no way that he’d be able to be someone entirely new.

“I want to grow.” A quiet smile. 

“I need to, I need to change. I don’t know what yet, but. One day at a time.”

UM. Well, they weren't really sure anymore. Getting a body back was kind of the only singular goal he had in his life up until this point, but now that was done. So, maybe? "I'd ... I'd like to see them again." He replies softly, looking to the ground a bit sheepishly. It was embarrasisng to think he was so hesitant to see his family again, but it had been so many years. Could they still even remember him? He was justa child then. ( Maybe they gave up hope. )

"Not now, but soon. I'd like to see my family again."

ASK MEME | HERMIT: WHAT ARE YOU LIKE WHEN YOU’RE ALONE?

FINGERS NERVOUSLY THREAD THROUGH HAIR. What they're like when they're alone? There isn't really much to be said. They were barely a person until a short few months ago — though, they wonder now if there is a difference now between Woofio the person and whoever this is. Of course, that Woofio was still him.

He still liked chasing after balls and getting the occasional scratch on the tummy. Couldn't say he was very much a fan of the treats like he used to be, but that might be just because they have an actual tongue now. That doesn't like the taste of dog treats.

He pulls gently on his ponytail. "The same, I think." A pause. "Usually without Woofio, though."

Cute.

It was so cute. Or rather, they— he? She? Felicity wasn’t quite sure who was under that adorable dog mask, but she did know one thing: whoever they were, she wanted to be their friend.

Anyone who would happily wear such a charming costume in public had to be a good person! And she would be lying if she said she wasn’t at least a little bit curious in the motivations behind it. Why wear a dog suit? How could you eat in it? Where could she get one of her own?

But dumping so many questions on the poor, unsuspecting doggie would no doubt scare them away. So after the animal judging festival concludes, one that she had decided to attend while visiting a nearby town for a food critic job, Felicity plays it cool as she approaches the doggie judge, wearing and kind and friendly smile before squealing:

“Your costume is soooo cute! J'adore!”

WOOFIO IS OFTEN UNDER THE SCRUTINY OF OTHERS. You learn to get used to it when your attire of choice is consistently a dog suit. It isn't as though he isn't modest, he thinks. To his credit, he had done his best and donned a pair of overalls and a neat cap embellished with a frisbee and a tennis ball. Surely, most shouldn't have much issue with how he dresses now. Then again, this was a new place. He had been subbing in for a contest judge local to the area and he hadn't thought much of it when he agreed, but maybe, just maybe this was a mistake.

Maybe he had gotten too used to the contests and people at home.

It is only when the festival ends that Woofio is able to shake off the feeling of a watchful audience member for all of, well. All of five minutes. 

Paws lift to pull ears over eyeholes, the animal judge shifting on their toes a bit sheepishly. Gosh, what a positive response! Him? Cute? No one ever said that! Usually, they just said he was weird or threatened to call local law enforcement on him.

"Aw, shucks! You think so? My fur's all messy! I ain't got a chance to fix it today, mademoiselle!"

Safari Guests || Open

“Welcome to the Oak Tree Safari Park!”

Agate greeted the group of guests at the entrance of the park after leading them from the guild center. She and Veronica had made the agreement that guests would wait in the lobby for the safety of the animals and visitors while it was open. This was to minimize the amount of lost people, stolen or freed animals, and any other possible accidents or mishaps that could happen. It was for the same reasons that Agate required the group to come to her as a whole to leave. 

“Remember if you’re inexperienced, please stay on the provided dirt paths so you don’t lose your way. Also, not all animals here are welcoming to company upon first appearance, so please don’t approach them quickly or from behind. The most curious of animals will approach you and I highly advise only reaching out to those.”

She gave everyone a thumbs up.

“We are not responsible for any injuries! Please find me if you have any questions or concerns.”

FINALLY, A PLACE TO STRETCH HIS LEGS. It was one thing to be surrounded by wildlife, but having to hunt it down. It was another to be surrounded by it and know they weren't so far that he'd have to swim to the bottom of the ocean or climb to the highest heights. This was freedom in its most condensed form and it was with that knowledge that Woofio took to the Oak Tree Safari Park with the knowledge that he would be able to run free without a lick of judgment from anyone. Not a stray villager and certainly, he hoped, not the staff that ran the park. And if something went wrong, well. 

He just hopes nothing will go wrong.

It is with great excitement that Woofio leaps to his feet as the crowd is corralled from the lobby, his tail swaying from side to side behind him before he lines up and filters through the doorway just as the rest. Oh boy, he'd get to run and play and he'd get to meet all new kinds of animals he wouldn't ordinarily get to see. Sure, he's seen cows and chickens and bunnies a thousand times. There were boars and monkeys and parrots and golly, he's sure he'll have seen them all. 

Woofio waddles up to the guide after the rest of the guests have taken off on their own adventure, the animal trainer wielding a harpoon in one hand and his suit decked out in all the maritime finery one can purchase on his pitifully small salary. So, a couple of flashlights strapped to a helmet and a life jacket.

"EXCUSE ME, BUT WHAT'S YOUR POLICY ON SCUBA DIVING?"
