When people get a little too gung-ho about-
wait. cancel post. gung-ho cannot be English. where did that phrase come from? China?
ok, yes. gōnghé, which is…an abbreviation for “industrial cooperative”? Like it was just a term for a worker-run organization? A specific U.S. marine stationed in China interpreted it as a motivational slogan about teamwork, and as a commander he got his whole battalion using it, and other U.S. marines found those guys so exhausting that it migrated into English slang with the meaning “overly enthusiastic”.
That’s…wild. What was I talking about?
similarly: kung fu (which is to say, 功夫 gōngfu) is a term for like, any pursuit requiring discipline & effort & practice, so like gongfu cha is a kind of tea ceremony, but because of the popularity of martial arts movies in the US, in which characters saying stuff like e.g. 你的功夫不錯 "your [gongfu]'s not bad" meaning like, "you've worked hard [on your martial art, since in this context we are already fighting one another]" and American viewers are like "kung fu means martial art" and now it just does mean that in English. English does this a lot, but it does it constantly to Chinese words, I feel like. I mean probably I just notice it more

That's how these crabs breathe! Flowing water has more oxygen, so doing this allows their gills to take more oxygen. Underwater you wouldn't notice, but the water here is at just the right depth to make a it look like a cute water fountain! ==:)

Happy indigenous peoples day!
The unchanging Monday mood
Telling myself it’ll be worth it as I come to realize how big of an undertaking painting my cabinets is
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
9/15 DONE
GOD
I’ve been working on these (off and on) for 3 DAYS
DONE
I’M FUCKING DONE
I finished the drawers and fixing up my smudges and corners and cleaned the kitchen AND NOW I’M FUCKING DONE AND I’M SO PROUD
WOW
Also this post popped off more than I expected. The notes are really sweet and thanks to the ppl who like my orange kitchen. I’ve wanted this color for years, so as soon as I bought my condo that was the first thing I did. And now two years later I have accomplished the OTHER goal of my kitchen which was to have flowers on my cabinets
I feel so damn good walking into my kitchen now
Also bonus pic of my plants w the cabinets:
