I'm practicing messing with proportions and expressions today in 3D and when I finally got what I wanted, I saved my work and then smooshed the random generator. I laughed so hard I cried.

Did some brush ink work based on one of our wedding photos. Lots still to learn.... some spots were pretty rough. Ugh I forgot to sign it with our logo. Stamping it with our faces should help though, right? lol

Art for Charity up available for auction! 9x12 graphite drawing, starting bid is $33.00.

The proceeds go to "Robert Gillespie," a guy that has to pay all of his chemo out of pocket to treat a rare form of leukemia. He needs help fighting cancer while also providing for his 11 year old son.

So a little FYI in case you don't know like I didn't: Avalanche Bob used a unique "form of singing known as yodeling." Self described as a "yodeling punk." He made frequent appearances on "The Best Show" which is a comedy podcast that Cj likes a lot.

Lil Bub was a runt of a litter of feral cats that was born with a unique feline dwarfism which meant her jaw was too small to retain her tongue, giving her a unique lil derpy face. She and Avalanche Bob passed away around the same time.

When Avalanche Bob died, I took it harder than I thought I would, but doing this drawing helped, it's a mashup of Bob from his album cover and lil' bub, like they had been gene spliced. Also there is a puppet. I dunno. I thought someone here might be interested in owning it- and in doing something good too? There's this guy on twitter fundraising for chemo that could use some help, any proceeds I'll donate in full to his paypal. It's such a sad story, please help if you can in any rate- his donation links are in the twitter bio, and the ebay link is to an auction for the drawing.

So yesterday I got hit with a round of depression strong enough that I couldn’t do anything meaningful for zehm.art. And Cj was busy all day adulting..... like a properly functioning human. Today is better, made a vector out of a Cj sketch for our typeface... It’s kinda... kinda feels stereotypical-Japanese when next to the normal fonts... welp need a new set of fonts to go along side the custom typeface anyway.

Well wouldn’t you know it.... I showed my “finished” garbage piece to my husband Cj and his reaction was “Ooooo, is this going on Etsy?” I told him very specifically no...

So with nothing better in mind I gave this one another go. It’s a lot better now, I mostly just needed to fix the shadow placement and “sculpt” out the face better. It’s still got problems but I’m still practicing getting my time down and this one went over by an hour as it is. :P

The Corbett Basement, Cj drew for his one-shot call of cutoolou (spelt in how an Elly says it out loud) game from a couple years back. Personally I love good horror so I went with a red-green theme and increased the blacks. There is really subtle spoopy ambience that beckons the viewer to look deeper yet also warn them of potential danger of doing so. How nice of Mr. Darkness, yes? :3

This was a custom commission for a friend wanting a tattoo design of a mindflayer. Took about a month for Cj to get the drawing done but that made the coloring really easily. Personally loved working on this, purples, blues and minty greens are a favorite set of mine and this guy just shows it all off. Technically he’s not done yet, Cj is planning on adding a ground shadow at some point.

Somewhere I also have an inked version of this, I experimented with blacking out some of the tiny details in his clothing so his head would pop up a bit better. It’s very striking but I don’t know where I put it...

I think I might add a cartoon bubble saying “All I want is COFFEEEEEE” or something.

Collab piece! Cj drew this maybe a year ago? I found it buried in an army of photos and was like “Ohh yeaaah, I love this one!” It’s a sketch of us, one of his best, particularly of me *strikes fabulous pose.* I would love more in this style personally, it’s simple but charming and full of personality in just the linework. I have no idea what’s going on with my clothes(?) I think he was trying to draw me in one of my capes but you normally can’t seem mah sleeves. sleeves imply blouse but the shape is funkalicious for a blouse.... The color work is all mine, I learned recently that I apparently love to draw in iridescent rainbow. Have you ever held your arm up in the bright sunlight and see your skin glisten with specks of purple, pink, blue and green? I don’t know if it’s different for people with different skin tones but my white-n-pasty self usually sees those aforementioned colors. It’s really pretty... Anyway, I apparently see things in a kind of iridescent shade just as a default, “Oh green wine bottle you say? NAY I SAY, IT’S MADE OF YELLOW AND PRUSSIAN BLUE AND VIOLET, ah screw, it’s just all the colors but in varying quantities.” Hrm, Cj’s shirt is pretty normal but I think it works to balance out the melted-crayon-box for skin tones in terms of intensity. Design worksheet for the new logo. I think it took us like two months to boil down to one that we both really liked. Our second best was the swirly Z in the middle and to the right a little. It was a lots of fun finishing a new one and the talking about it, debating it, thinking about what it says about us vs. what we wanted it to say.

Oh sidenote, this is the first official blog post that marks Cj and Elly as married, co-artists. We are also opening an etsy shop but it’s super under construction right now.
