Hyrulian Cookbook (Masterpost)
As a Hyrulian pc pagan and kitchen witch, I love love love making food from the Zelda games irl. However, it can be hard to find these recipes, and so I’ve put them all in one place to help anyone with the same predicament. These are great for offerings, or for Hyrulian holidays (if you celebrate them). NOTE: You obviously don’t have to be a Hyrulian pc pagan to use these recipes – feel free to get cooking even if you’re just a casual fan of the Zelda franchise!

I’m going to keep adding to this as I find recipes! AN INTERESTING TIME FOR FOODIES
breath of the wild + seasons
A cookbook filled with beautiful art, original recipes and stunning photos. A guide to legendary food that will take your breath away.
With the hype of a sequel to one of the most beloved games I’ve ever had the pleasure of repeatedly playing, I’d like to bring this to attention. I’m sure anyone who loves the Legend of Zelda and Breath of the Wild has seen this somewhere somehow and maybe has already backed this project. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend doing so if you can. The project is 100% funded as of the week they opened the Kickstarter and supporters are currently running through Stretch Goals like rapid fire.
I helped fund it, of course, and I can’t wait for the release.
Before anyone asks, however, NO, I will not be posting any recipes from this project as I am not part of the team nor do I have the express written consent to post any content of this book.
I will, however, shamelessly promote this fantastic idea.

Cream of Mushroom Soup
Fun fact, I am not a big fan of mushrooms or mushroom soup so I was a bit hesitant with this one. The first recipe I did try out as it is a bit more crafty and allows mincing (smaller chunks) of mushrooms in the soup. For haters of mushrooms, I am with you and I say, give the first recipe a try! Or don’t, it’s all up to you of course.
As with any recipe, please read through before deciding to make if you have any allergies or need to substitute for your dietary needs.
I take no credit for any of these recipes. This is a collection, not my own make.
Original Recipe in Game:any mushroom with Fresh Milk, Rock Salt, and any Herb or vegetable.
CONTAINS MILK, can opt with almond or soy milk if needed
For vegetarian option, use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth or use water with extra spices. For completely Vegan option, use butter made from olive oil and almond or soy milk. Please consider the difference in cooking these when substituting.
RECIPE ONE: Chef John’s Creamy Mushroom Soup
(link comes with pics and video)
1/4 cup unsalted butter
2 pounds sliced fresh mushrooms
1 pinch salt
1 yellow onion, diced
1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
6 sprigs fresh thyme
2 cloves garlic, peeled
4 cups chicken broth
1 cup water
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 pinch salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves for garnish, or to taste
Instructions:
Melt butter in a large soup pot over medium-high heat; cook mushrooms in butter with 1 pinch salt until the mushrooms give off their juices; reduce heat to low.
Continue to cook, stirring often, until juices evaporate and the mushrooms are golden brown, about 15 minutes. Set aside a few attractive mushroom slices for garnish later, if desired.
Mix onion into mushrooms and cook until onion is soft and translucent, about 5 more minutes.Stir flour into mushroom mixture and cook, stirring often, for 2 minutes to remove raw flour taste.
Tie thyme sprigs into a small bundle with kitchen twine and add to mushroom mixture; add garlic cloves. Pour chicken stock and water into mushroom mixture. Bring to a simmer and cook for 1 hour.
Remove thyme bundle.Transfer soup to a blender in small batches and puree on high speed until smooth and thick.Return soup to pot and stir in cream. Season with salt and black pepper and serve in bowls, garnished with reserved mushroom slices and a few thyme leaves.
RECIPE TWO: Mushroom Soup without Cream
5 Tbsp butter
8 oz tray whole white mushrooms wiped clean and sliced (or start with a similar sized tray of pre-sliced)
1/4 cup flour
2 cups milk at least 2%, whole preferred
1 cup chicken broth
1/4 tsp fresh thyme leaves or 1/8 tsp dried
Salt and freshly ground pepper
In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and cook, stirring, until they are cooked and lightly coloured.
Add flour and cook, stirring, for about 45 seconds (it will be dry in the pan, but just keep them moving so they don't scorch).
Add the milk and stir to combine. Add the chicken broth, thyme leaves and some salt and pepper.Cook, stirring regularly, until soup thickens. This will take 8-10 minutes and will be about coincide with when the soup starts to lightly boil.
Reduce heat to medium low.
Using an immersion blender, blend the soup very lightly, leaving some larger pieces of mushroom (alternately, remove a cup of the soup with mushrooms and break up in a blender, then return to the pot).Taste soup and add additional salt and pepper, as needed. Garnish with additional fresh thyme leaves.

Fried Egg and Rice
This has got to be the easiest full meal on the list. If you know how to fry an egg, you are halfway there. If you have access to instant rice, you are practically set. If you like to be more creative with this recipe, i.e. using different rice, different spices, different types of eggs, go right ahead! This one is very open to changes due to its simplicity, and I even crafted one myself this time!! (Though I am sure someone somewhere has done it before so I still technically take no credit).
I take no credit for any of these recipes. This is a collection, not my own make.
Original Recipe in Game: Bird Egg, Hylian Rice
RECIPE ONE: Microwave Jasmine Rice (my own preference and idea)
one or two eggs,
Uncle Ben’s Jasmine Rice
seasoning (such as salt, pepper, parsley, chives, spices, etc.)
cooking oil/butter for frying eggs
Follow the instructions on how to cook Uncle Ben’s jasmine rice in the microwave. While the rice is cooking, put a tablespoon amount of butter or oil in your frying pan in prep for the egg(s), putting heat on between medium to high. Once pan is warm enough, crack the egg(s) into your pan, ensuring that the yolks stay intact. Sprinkle desired seasoning. Cook egg(s) until desired preference is achieved i.e. sunny side, over easy, or well done. While eggs cook, take out rice from microwave into a bowl. Once cooked, place eggs on top of rice as seen in picture. Optional greens on side may be added parsley, or other green vegetable.

Never cooked an egg before? Look no further:

This video also has the rice already cooked, but gives a close view of what your egg should be doing once it hits the pan. While it bubbles, be sure to add your seasonings as you like them. a pinch of salt or a touch of parsley can go a long way.

Don’t want the instant stuff, but never cooked rice? Here you go!

This is the bare minimum of cooking rice in a pot rather than in a microwave, with a few pro tip options that are not necessary but can add flavour. It gives instruction on long grain white rice, short grain white rice, and brown grain. Depending on the many more types of options you may have of rice, the instructions on how to cook it should be on the side of the package when purchasing. Please use discretion.
You also have a slower cooker option if you have the benefit of owning one! Please check your machine on instructions and setting options as they may differ on power and timing.
