Disney Channel Original Movies - Part 2
(Part 1)
“You’re super famous and hiding from the paparazzi after something embarrassing just happened and I just seem to notice you and help you” AU
.
The newspaper spins as it lands on the polished surface of his desk.A single finger pressing down on its centre is enough to end its revolutions.
Richard Castle and his Mysterious Girl, the headline reads.
“Anything you’d care to tell me?” Paul asks, forgetting about his bodyguard training for a second to lean back against the doorframe with his arms folded across his torso. His face is impassive - as always - but there’s a glimmer of humour injected in his tone.
Rick scans the article quickly, eyes lingering on the grainy photo of him locking lips with his so-called mysterious girl, before looking up at the gloating man.
“Oh, I don’t think so. It was just the average Saturday night. A spot of clubbing for good publicity.”
Unconvinced, his bodyguard responds, “And where does she come into it? Hmm?” Perhaps if he hadn’t given Paul the slip that night, he might not be so determined to find out all the sordid details of his hook-up.
And what a hook-up it was…

This is fab and adorable. (But how did they get...
Haha, how they got out of the car is a true mystery ;) Glad you enjoyed the fic!

Loved it!
Oh I’m so glad you liked it!
So here's msmorg's birthday fic, which I couldn't get finished in time on the day itself or the days after because of work. :( So apologies for it being late, Morgen!
"Okay, let's get one thing clear before we set off, Castle," Kate starts, preventing her partner from pulling open his car door with a single hand covering the opening. "We are working, not going on a road trip."
"Got it," Castle replies, making light of her caution with a sarcastic salute and click of his tongue. He tugs on the door handle, only opening it slightly before Beckett pushes it closed again.
"I mean it, Castle. We're not going to Pennsylvania to have fun."
"All work; no fun. I hear you, Beckett. Loud and clear."
Her eyebrows arch, rising on her forehead as she waits for him to be serious for once. He just grins back, enjoying the morning more and more as the vein going into Beckett's hairline starts to tick. Frustrating Kate never could quite lose its appeal.
She lets loose a heavy sigh, dropping her hand. "We should go."
Resigned to a journey that will most likely be spent slapping Castle's hand away from the radio controls, Kate rounds the bonnet of her car and pulls open her own door, sliding into the driver's seat as Castle clips his seatbelt into place.
New Girl AU. Castle and the boys live in an apartment together (or beckett and the boys, either way) and beckett/castle becomes their new roommate after beckett/castle finds out that their significant other has been cheating on them. Of course, beckett and castle fall in love like Jess and Nick on the show. Hilarity ensues, blah blah blah.
.
So this came out longer than I expected. I’m just gonna put the first two paragraphs above the read more. Enjoy!
New Guy
“Why does it have to be another guy?” Kate asked as she and the boys tidied up the apartment—well, the living room—for the arrival of their new tenant. Outside, the streets of Lower Manhattan were filled with bustling taxis, delivery trucks, and sleek town cars. Horns blared and people shouted in a myriad of different languages that gave The Melting Pot its name.
“Because,” Kevin Ryan, one of her longtime roommates and pseudo-little brother replied, “Javi slept with the last girl that lived here.”
“Hey, she’s the one that came onto me, alright?” the Latino man countered. “And, if I recall correctly, we’re still all good friends.”
“Lanie is my friend, Espo,” Kate snorted. “She can’t stand you.”
“She’s just playing hard to get,” the man sniffed, brushing his knuckles against his chest. Kate rolled her eyes and plucked a few dozen cups from the coffee table, carrying them into the kitchen.
“What about Jenny?” she said over her shoulder. “You’re already sleeping with her and it’s about time for you guys to move in together, right?”
“Jenny’s mother would have a heart attack if she moved in with a guy before marriage. Let alone two guys and their female roommate. We’re just gonna wait it out,” Ryan said.
There was a knock on the door and all three of them stopped what they were doing and turned towards it. “He’s here,” Javi pointed out the obvious and Kate rolled her eyes.
“You think?” she snarked, placing the cups into the sink and heading towards the door.
When she opened it, she came face to face with a teary-eyed bull of a man. He was tall, broad-shoulder, square-jawed, and pouty. His eyes were a deep ocean blue and he had shaggy brown hair with matching scruff along his face. He had a couple of suitcases at his feet and a large box in his arms.
“Hey,” Kate greeted, offering him a gentle smile.
“Hi,” he replied, miserably, barely meeting her eyes. “I’m Rick Castle, your new roommate.”
“Come on in,” she said, stepping aside. The man padded into the main room, his suitcases rolling in after him, attached to his hand as he balanced the box on one hand. He took a look around the room but his eyes seemed unfocused.
“Nice place,” he said in a monotone voice.
“Thanks,” Ryan said, smiling. “My grandmother left it to me; completely rent-controlled.”
“Nice.” Dry, but not rude. Just miserable.
Castle placed his box on the ground next to the coffee table and fell heavily into the arm chair next to the sofa, resting his head back against the cushions. Kate, Esposito, and Ryan watched as he closed his eyes and his bottom lip quivered.
Ryan, being the ever compassionate soul that he was, was the first one to sit down on the sofa adjacent to the man and ask what was wrong.
“My wife cheated on me,” Castle sighed. “Slept with her director. I walked in on them doing it on the couch. She didn’t even stop when she saw me standing there. Then she had the nerve to serve me with divorce papers and move to California.”
The boys grimaced and Kate pressed her hand over her mouth. Poor guy…
“That’s rough, buddy,” Javi said, sitting down next to Kevin. “Sounds like you need a good night out to get over her.” Castle turned his head towards the shorter man with a glare.
“It was last week,” he growled.
“Or not,” Javi said. Kate swatted his head as she sat on the coffee table in front of Castle, then turned to the man with a compassionate smile.
“Hey,” she said, softly, leaning in on her elbows. “It’ll get better. Trust me, I’ve been there before. People can be dicks some time. Can’t let them get in the way of you having a good time, can you?” He shook his head. “Right,” she said. “But it is going to take some time, so how about some Ben & Jerry’s and a good movie marathon?”
“He’s a dude, Beckett,” Esposito snorted. “He’s not gonna wanna—“
“Actually,” Castle interrupted, “that sounds perfect.”
Kate turned to Javier with a smug smile and he stuck his tongue out at her. She laughed.
Castle and Beckett were spread out on the couch that night, heads at either end while their feet met somewhere in the middle, under a large, soft as hell, Calvin Klein blanket. Each had a pint of ice cream and a spoon in their hands.
“So,” Kate said, “what do you do?”
“For a living?” Castle asked, half of his attention still on Leslie Nielson in Forbidden Planet, a movie he and Beckett apparently shared a love for. “I’m a writer.”
“Anything I might have read?” she asked.
“Flowers for Your Grave?”
“My mom loves that book,” Kate informed him. “And all your other books, for that matter. She’s going to flip when she find out you live here now. Why are you living here now? Don’t you have a penthouse or something?”
“Couldn’t stay there,” he sighed. “Everything reminded me of Meredith. Had to find someplace else.”
“But why an apartment with three people already living here?” she asked. “Can’t you afford your own place?”
“It’s was the first listing that came up on Craigslist,” he sighed. “And I figured it couldn’t hurt to live with roommates for a little while. I probably shouldn’t be alone right now.”
“You really think you would hurt yourself?” Kate asked, starting to get concerned. She placed her pint on the table and sat up a but straighter.
“Not me,” Castle chuckled. “My wallet. I tend to…shop when I’m upset. Last time Meredith and I had a fight, I bought this really ugly dog statue. Didn’t go with the décor at all.” Kate laughed at that and he smiled. “How about you?” he asked. “What do you do for a living?”
“I’m working as a paralegal right now,” Kate said, “until I get my license to practice.”
“Nice,” he commented. “I could tell you were a lawyer, just from the intelligence in your eyes. Which are beautiful, by the way.”
Kate flushed and looked away shyly, biting her lip. “Thank you,” she said, “but tonight isn’t about me. It’s about you getting over your ex; about healing your heart.”
Castle took a deep breath. “It’s not so much my heart as my ego that’s bruised,” he said. “Meredith and I…we were never going to last.”
“Why’d you get married then?” Kate asked, knowing that she was probably prying but she couldn’t fight off her curiosity.
“She got pregnant,” he said and she nearly choked on her spoon.
“You have a kid?”
Castle shook his head. “Meredith had a miscarriage before the first trimester was even over. But by then we’d already said our vows. We tried to make it work for us and it did, for a little while.”
“Until she met her director?” Kate frowned.
Castle nodded. “Yeah. She got a tiny role in this new movie of hers and was in danger of her character being cut altogether, so…she slept with him to keep her role. Which worked, only…”
“She didn’t stop,” Kate finished for him and he nodded, taking a big bite out of the rocky road. “What a bitch. No offense.”
“I have called her far worse in the last week,” Castle informed her. “Mostly four-letter words.”
“I don’t blame you,” Kate snarked, scooping up more ice cream.
Castle smiled at her. “Thank you,” he said. “I needed this.”
Kate grinned back. “Well wait until you have a real movie night with Lanie and Jenny; they’ll make you feel like a teenage girl.”
“They’ll even braid my hair?” he asked.
“And paint your toes,” Kate added.
“Can’t wait.”
“Dude,” Javi whispered, eyeing his friend across the island as they sat in the kitchen, playing poker. “I thought we said no more chicks.” He snickered as Ryan glared at him.
“Shut up, Espo,” Ryan said, shuffling the cards. “Some guys have a sensitive side.”
“That’s more than just a side, bro,” Esposito said. “That guy’s just one big marshmallow. And they’re talking painting toenails and braiding hair. Are we sure he was married to a woman?”
“It’s not as bad as it sounds,” Ryan replied. “It feels kind of nice.”
“What does?”
“Having your nails painted. Soothing almost.”
“Dude…”
“Besides, I give it three weeks.”
“Til what?”
“Beckett sleeps with him.”
“You’re not serious. You don’t think she’s into that creampuff do you?”
“Why not? They’re both tall, good-looking single people. They have the same taste in movies and the same sense of humor. He makes her laugh and smile—hell she’s practically glowing! And I’ve never seen her take to somebody so quickly, have you?”
“Nah, man,” the Latino agreed, “but that don’t mean anything. Knowing Beckett, she’s probably just being friendly. I mean, we’ve all gotta live with the guy now, right? Might as well make sure he’s not some crazy creep or something.”
“She didn’t even take to Lanie like this, dude,” Ryan pointed out. “Trust me, they’ll be in bed together before you know it. Maybe even married.”
Javier laughed out loud at that, alerting the two people on the couch.
“Nice poker face, Espo,” Kate called over the back and Javier cleared his throat, shooting her a glare.
“A hundred bucks,” Kevin said, turning the man’s attention back to him. “Three weeks. You in?”
Javi looked back at the pair, each now absorbed in the movie, shoveling ice cream into their mouths. He squinted at them, noticed the way Castle snuck glances at Kate every now and then and smiled softly, before he turned back to the screen. Kate didn’t even spare him another glance.
“You’re on,” he said, turning back to his best friend. “I’ll even give you an extra week. But, trust me bro, it’s not gonna happen.”
It happened less than two weeks later.
Neither of them really meant for it to happen, either. They were just eating Chinese. Making jokes about Kate’s utter obsession with orange chicken and peanut butter noodles and Castle’s love of chicken dumpling dipped in spicy mustard. He’d offered her a bite of one such dumpling, accidentally dropping it onto her white cotton shirt.
He’d practically jumped out of his seat apologizing and Kate had just waved him off, standing to walk over to the washing machine right next to the kitchen and removing her shirt without even a second thought. Castle’s jaw practically fell to the ground at the sight of her dark purple bra. It was simple and also made of cotton, but the straps were think and the back of it wasn’t took thick to hide the ridges of her spine beneath the lace.
His eyes darkened immediately and he found himself standing as well, taking a few steps in her direction before he really knew what he was even doing. Once he’d shaken off the daze, however, Kate had already started the wash and turned back towards him, her mouth open as if to speak, then closing when she realized his gaze was glued to a space considerably lower than her eyes.
“Castle?” She’d taken to calling him by his last name because she said it suited him better. He still called her by a mix of her first and last name because they both suited her at different times.
His eyes flew to her face and his entire face turned beet red. “Sorry,” he squeaked and she grinned.
They’d been having moments like that a lot lately and she knew they weren’t by accident. She’d find him staring at her ass or her own gaze would flick down to his lips for just a few seconds, but from the way his eyes darkened, she knew he noticed.
If it were any other guy, she probably would have jumped him the first day they met, but as it was, he was her roommate, her friend, and recently divorced (or would be once the paperwork went through) and there was no way he could be a onetime thing. Not while they were living together, anyway. There were too many risks.
But now, looking into those darkened eyes—even as his face flushed deeper—all she could think about was how much she wanted him. They’d only known each other for a little more than a week, but she already felt the pure need coursing through her veins. For him. She’d never felt this strong a need for any other person—not even Will, whom she’d dated for six months. Not for Rogan or for Josh or for Tom, who’d all been fleeting romances that never stuck or made her feel quite this hot, quite this passionate about anything.
Sleeping with Rick Castle would be such a mistake and she knew it, but she couldn’t fight the magnetism that had her taking step after cautious step in his direction, her toes connecting with the cool tile floor deliciously; the complete opposite of her heated skin.
Only when she was right in front of him did she have doubts. His entire body was rigid, carefully not touching her. He swallowed thickly and closed his eyes. He murmured nonsensically and she swore she could make out numbers on his lips. She stepped closer, her chest and bare stomach brushing against his. His eyes snapped open and something in him seemed to snap as his hands reached to palm her hips. They were big—his hands—and her waist was slim, his thumbs practically reaching her belly button. He pulled her further against him as he leaned down. He paused just before their lips met.
“Is this what you want?” he rumbled, his voice low, making her shiver.
Kate nodded. “Yes,” she whispered, her top lip just faintly brushing his as she spoke. Castle swallowed again and then nodded.
“Okay,” he said, before his mouth descended on hers.
It was a whirlwind of activity after that. Clothes went flying as they made their way down to hall to Kate’s bedroom. He pushed her in first, closed the door, then turned her around and shoved her into it, all while unbuckling his belt and undoing the button on his jeans. His shirt had disappeared somewhere around the living room and her bra was slipping down her body, already unhooked in the back. Castle was quick to remove it as his mouth quested lower, lips, tongue, and teeth scorching a trail downward.
Kate gasped as he reached his destination, her nails scraping through his hair as he legs buckled. Castle didn’t have enough time to catch her and they felt to the group in a heap of writhing limbs and giggles. Their laughter soon turned to moans.
Later, they lay together on the floor, Beckett’s purple bedsheet covering them as Castle rained kisses all over her body while she sighed and gasped and scratched at his shoulders. He smiled against her skin and kissed up to her lips, pressing his whole body down into her.
“Mmm,” Kate sighed, her legs wrapping around him. When he pulled back, she was smiling as well, her eyes sparkling with attraction as she looked up at him.
“Hi,” he rumbled.
“Hey,” she said back, biting her lip.
“What are you thinking?” he asked, pressing his cheek down to her chest.
“I’m thinking…I really want to do that again,” she sighed. “But we probably shouldn’t.”
“Agreed,” Castle said. “It would be a bad idea.”
“Huge mistake.”
“Monstrous.”
“Titanic-huge.”
They smiled widely at each other before Beckett pulled him down for another kiss. It wasn’t long before round two started.
Then came round three. And four…they lost count around five.
When Javi walked into the kitchen the next morning, he cursed. Beckett was there, alone, but her neck and exposed shoulder were riddled with hickeys. And she was wearing Castle’s T-shirt, which fell to her knees.
“So,” he said, startling her slightly. She turned and shot him a glare. “What was all that about me sleeping with roommates?”
“Shut up, Espo,” Kate said, turning back to the coffee machine. It was Sunday and she was off from work. There were two mugs in front of her.
“Girl, you—“
Before he could finish that sentence, a door in the hallway opened and Rick practically strutted out of her bedroom wearing nothing but a pair of boxers. He wore the scratches on his skin with pride, much the way Beckett wore the love bites on her own body. Completely ignoring the shell-shocked Hispanic man, he made a beeline straight for Beckett, wrapping his arms boldly around her waist and pressing his nose to the curve of neck while she giggled and canted into him.
“Yo,” Esposito said, “did you just giggle?” She did it again and he sputtered. “RYAN! RYAN, COME OUT HERE! BECKETT JUST GIGGLED!”
A few seconds later, a very rumpled Kevin Ryan stepped out of his room, tugging on a pair of pants. There were hickeys all over his neck and chest as well and Javier sputtered at him as Jenny poked her head out behind him, her hair in disarray.
“What’s up?” he asked, his sleepy blue eyes taking in the scene before him, A wide grin spread over his face as he watched Castle and Beckett practically cuddled up together by the sink as they sipped their respective coffees. Beckett was giggling. So was Castle.
He turned to Esposito. “You owe me a hundred bucks,” he said.
“Double or nothing,” the man replied. “He’s out of here in a month.”
Ryan turned his attention back to the couple, who were practically oblivious to the world around them as Castle twirled Beckett’s hand around his index finger. “You’re on,” he said to Javier, before turning back to his girlfriend and allowing her to pull him back into his bedroom.
Once inside, Jenny rested her head against his chest. “Do you really think they’re going to last longer than a month?” she asked him.
“Of course,” he said. “Look at them; who do they remind you of?”
Jenny smiled, pressing a kiss right above his heart. “Us,” she whispered into his skin. Kevin reached out to grasp her left hand, holding it in front of his eyes. The diamond on Jenny’s brand-new engagement ring sparkled in the sunlight.
“They might even beat us to the aisle,” he said. “Just you wait and see.”
He was right.
Not the way I expected it to go but my fingers have a mind of their own so…
Soo, I have been in England for the past 2 weeks and was fortunate enough to meet these fabulous people for a couple days. sirmcsteamy arc-avenging-fairytale and castleholic thank you for all the good!! <3
I saw you trying to hit the “door close” button in the elevator but I made it in and then I pushed every single button to make you later for work, but now we’re stuck in this fucking elevator as it stops at every single floor and I don’t know what to say other than “you started it” AU
.
Not 100% what the prompt was because I couldn’t stop once I started it, but hopefully you don’t mind, anon prompter!
She smiles politely at Mrs Hill as the old lady steps out of the elevator behind her zimmerframe, freeing up the metal box for Kate herself to enter, pushing the button for the fourteenth floor. It isn’t often she get’s her highrise apartment building’s elevator to herself.
She’s not claustrophobic per se, and the elevator is by no means small, but it’s never comfortable standing in close quarters with Old Man Dutton’s cigarette breath or the fainting-strength stench of Pete from the ninth floor’s pits. She can’t help the flare of relief expanding her ribcage that has her sagging back against one of the metal walls. She waits with closed eyes for the doors to slide closed only for her eyelids to fly apart when she hears a shout.
“Incoming!”
Shit. Not him. Anybody but him.
Scrambling away from the wall, Kate lunges for the panel of buttons, rapidly punching in the one bearing the close doors symbol.
“Come on, come on,” she growls, pressing harder on the button and watching the doors continue to simply inch towards each other too slowly. In seconds, he’s through the gap, hunched over and breathing hard.
“Whew! That was close.”
She smiles tightly, hiding a grimace in the small but sarcastic tilt of her lips. She just had to be stuck in the elevator with him, didn’t she? Mr over-enthusiasm. Mr I’m-so-cheerful-I-can-make-you-laugh-about-funerals. Mr I-run-everywhere-because-I’m-in-such-tip-top-shape-I-make-professional-athletes-look-weak. Mr-annoying. Mr Richard Castle.
“Doors closing,” the electronic voice warns.
He straightens, sweaty workout shirt sticking to his chest, and spies the illuminated button she still has her finger resting on.
“Katherine Beckett, 14A, were you trying to close the doors on me?”
Person A asks Person B how much they love them. Person B says “from here”. Person A doesn’t know what this means. Years later, something happens (it’s doesn’t matter what) and Person B is dying. Person B says “to here” before dying in A’s arms. (oh my goddddddd)
.
“Castle?”
“Mmm?” Resting her chin on her fiance’s shoulder, Kate seeks the rough patch of stubble that Rick never quite manages to get a clean shave on with her lips, brushes soft kisses to it until he leans back, appraises her with an eyebrow raised. “What do you want?”
She grins, knows she’s been caught, and lifts the empty wine glass in her hand towards him. “Refill, please?”
“But I’m so comfy,” he whines, setting his book down and slipping both of his arms around her, tugging her up onto his lap. “And look, you’re on top of me. I can’t possibly move.”
“If you loved me-”
“If I didn’t, that ring wouldn’t be fresh on your finger. Nice try.”
In all honesty, Beckett can’t say she’s too fussed about getting up to get her own drink; Castle did get the last two after all. His refusal has turned this into a competition though, and she hates to concede. “But how much do you love me?”
“I’m not getting you the wine.” Damn it, he’s as stubborn as she is. “And… from here.”
“From where?”
“I love you from here.”
“To where?”
The slow curl of his lips into that infuriatingly smug smirk of his is the only answer he offers. Her glare only intensifies the expression, so Kate resorts to the only sure method of wiping the look away.
Kissing him, she drinks the remains of his wine from his lips, the taste far better than from any bottle.
x
“Castle?”
“Mmm!”
The sound is muffled but impossibly loud in the echoing silence of the warehouse, a sign of life that has her frantic heart skipping a beat, two, before she rushes in its direction.
“Castle!”
Her husband is gagged, lying supine in the shadow of some ancient farming equipment, wrists bound together atop of him. Both eyes blackened, nose broken and bloodied but - alive. He’s alive. Her partner is still breathing and their children, Alexis too, still have their father.
“Castle,” Beckett breathes, dropping to her knees on the concrete floor beside him, tugging the gag from his mouth and placing reverent hands to his cheeks; she bends to touch her lips to his, desperately soft, gentle, reassuring herself that he’s here, and real, and alive-
He tastes odd, metallic. She can’t make the connection through her hysteria, knows there’s something bad about that but… what? It’s too hard to think over the thrashing thud of her heart in her ears, over her debilitating relief at finding him after the worst three weeks of her life…
“Kate,” he croaks. “Tell the kids-”
He coughs.
Blood.
He coughs blood.
The spray hits her, hot and wet, drops splashing across her face and catching in her lashes, falling to her cheeks as scarlet tears.
And she realises, then, that something is desperately wrong.
“I love them. All - Alexis, Carter, Madeleine.”
“Tell them yourself, Castle.” Beckett insists, because he isn’t dying on her. She won’t let him. Her hands skim his sides, finds his shirt hot and wet and ripped at his ribcage, and her eyes fall to the bloodied knife discarded next to him. Fumbling, she reaches for her phone, but it slips through slick crimson fingers, smashing apart spectacularly as it hit the ground.
“And - you, Kate - from there… I love you.”
“Sh, babe. Espo and Ryan will be here soon-” five minutes behind her, Kevin had said. They should be here. “Stop talking, just, please, stay still.” Stay alive.
“From there, Kate,” he manages, tired eyes turning to steel as he chokes out the words. “To here.”
His still bound hands hook around her, an embrace that feels far too much like a goodbye. It’s only moments before they go limp, and the words dead weight ambush her like a bullet to the heart (she would know) as she clutches at his ribs in a desperate attempt to hold his life in his body. Curling against his unmoving body, she remembers another time, years ago, that she had been tucked against him.
He had told her he loved her from here. She had asked what he had meant.
Now, as his blood, too much of it, spills from his side, she realises that the answer was one she never wanted to know.
“I love you from then, Castle.” Beckett tells him, one hand moving from his side to rest over his shallowly-beating heart.
Kate imagines she feels his heart flutter beneath her palm before it gives out entirely.
x
She feels it coming.
How she knows, Beckett doesn’t understand but… she feels it, deep in her bones. It’s her time, and she’s on her way out.
She calls the kids, chats with them like she would any other time, tells them she loves them before she tells her two grandchildren a bedroom story over skype. Alexis and her three kids are next, then Lanie, then the Ryans. Javi’s gone, her dad too.
Slowly, Kate pushes herself up from the sofa, creaking joints reminding her of her age, and makes her way into her bedroom. Plucking the framed wedding photo from her bedside table, she slips under the covers and holds it to her chest.
“To here, Castle.”
And she closes her eyes.
A while ago I saw a list of wedding AUs over on castlefanficprompts‘ blog and one/two that I kind of merged together took my fancy but I had exams to revise for so it’s taken me this long to finish this piece since I could only write like 100 words a night. It’s kinda long so I put the whole thing under a read more. Hope you enjoy!
“Whiskey, please,” the man mutters, throwing himself onto a stool and unceremoniously slumping forward over the bar. Scott, the lazy-ass guy who’s supposed to be bartending with her, holds up a spotlessly clean glass and dishtowel before beginning to re-clean it and nods towards the customer, leaving her to sigh and ask him to repeat his request. “Bourbon whiskey.” She responds pleasantly enough with a ‘coming right up’ – not that he’s even looked at her – but the next words that leave his mouth are still acidic. “Don’t you just hate weddings?”
If his suit, untucked and ruffled though it is, is anything to go by, he’s one of the guests. She frowns, wondering why he looks so miserable and has left the party going on through the open doors, if that’s the case.
“Sir?”
“This is the third one I’ve been to this month,” he explains, trailing the tip of one of his fingers through a ring of condensation on the bar-top and teasing the liquid into a series of swirls and weaving lines. “Yep, first it was my best friend, then it was Nora and now it’s my cousin, Pete. Kind of sick of hearing the same songs over and over at this point.”
“Whitney Houston doesn’t make you wanna get out on the dance floor anymore, huh?” she asks, sliding his glass of bourbon along the counter to him and cringing internally at the awkwardness of her own question. She bets Scott, the man with actual bartending experience wouldn’t have asked him about dancing. But Scott, the guy with the experience, is more interested in standing around all evening and watching her flounder. What she wouldn’t give to be out on the dance floor with a cute guy instead of being stuck working behind the bar – for all intents and purposes by herself – for another three hours.
He gives her a derisive psshh.
“Not when my mother keeps trying to set me up with people whenever it comes on.”
A surprised laugh echoes in his ears, making him look up and- Wow, is the bartender hot or has he already drunk too much and started imagining things?
“Your mom’s pimping you out?”
He chuckles, can’t help it really when she’s leaning forwards over the bar towards him and resting her chin on her clasped knuckles, engaging with him and smiling so much that he actually starts to lose his thoughts.
“Yep. Apparently, since my younger cousin – the last of my cousins to tie the knot, I might add – can manage to find a wife and settle down, I have no hope.”
“You don’t have any hope? You’re what? 33?” she asks, hazarding a guess at his age by inspecting the deep-set smile wrinkles lining his forehead and the skin around his eyes.
“35,” he corrects, holding up one of his hands and waggling his fingers at her. “And because I have thus far avoided any major, lasting romantic entanglements, I am going to die alone. Kinda hypocritical, you know.”
“Is it?”
He nods, lifting a finger away from his glass to point at her. “She’s on her third marriage since turning fifty.”
“Right,” she nods, pushing herself off the bar-top as she spots two more men – both of them dressed in matching grey tuxedos and clearly forming at least part of the groom’s party – heading towards her.
“Ricky! There you are!” one of them yells, staggering slightly as he unslings his arm from around his friend and instead latches onto Ricky.
“Pete,” Ricky says, his smile turning phony then falling completely as he extricates himself from his cousin’s grip.
“Your mom’s looking for you, bro!”
Chuckling, Ricky keeps his wry gaze on her as he asks, “Is she?” The lack of interest and surprise pulls a huff of amusement from her. She can’t help it, there’s just something about this guy. Maybe he’s a comedian, maybe that’s why he’s so magnetic and easy to talk to.
“Yeah, she wants to introduce you to Andie! You are gonna love her, Rick!”
Pete’s friend, standing on left adds, “Tchyeah, boobs out to here,” with his arms wildly exaggerating. The two men lock gazes and slap palms, both too busy laughing and discussing Andie’s apparent assets to notice that Rick has yet to move an inch from his chair.
“Come on, dude, you gotta get over there!”
They’re shoving on his shoulder, tugging on his lapel, but he’s unyielding.
“Dude! We gotta get over there!”
“Nope, no we don’t.” Rick sways atop his stool as his cousin pulls on his shoulder.
“Yes we do,” the groomsman argues, joining Pete in trying to forcibly remove Rick from the bar. “Seriously, Andie is the motherlode! She’s a pilates instructor! You don’t want to miss this because you’re too busy sulking into a glass of vodka!”
“I’m quite happy here with my whiskey, Dan, but thanks for your concern. It’s truly touching,” Rick deadpans, hooking his feet tighter around the legs of the stool and hunching his shoulders against Pete and Dan’s insistent hands. It brings him in closer to the bartending girl, who he realises has been watching the three of them with a growing sense of bemusement. “Sorry about this,” he mutters, tilting his head to indicate his two younger relations.
“We just want you to be happy,” Dan grunts, looking to be exerting serious muscle now and yet Rick is still stuck fast to the stool. Just how strong is he? Kate wonders, watching him resist the two men relatively easily. “How’d you know Andie isn’t your dream girl?”
Rick snorts.
“My dream girl? Trust me, boys, I’ve been to three weddings in the last month. I have not – and will not – find my future wife at any of them, and even if I did, it would not be with my mother’s help. Let’s not forget what happened with the last girl she set me up with,” he adds in a cautionary tone, throwing back the rest of his bourbon as thoughts of his ex-fiancé-and-almost-wife, Paula, flood his mind.
“Paula was one girl,” Pete protests.
“Yeah, Andie is nothing like Paula.”
“That may be true, but it doesn’t change the fact that I do not need my mother to find me a woman.”
Dan laughs, elbowing Pete and creasing over as his eyes leaked tears of humour.
“Dude, you’ve been sitting here like fifteen minutes now and you haven’t even asked the hot chick behind the bar out. You’re a lost cause when it comes to women.”
Gritting his teeth, Rick says, “Actually, I was just asking-“ Crap, he doesn’t even know his bartender’s name.
At the quick glance he shoots over the bar, the helpless look in his eyes, she murmurs, “Kate,” surprising even herself. She thinks the way her heart stops and stutters when he turns back and really looks at her this time, a slow, roguish smile tugging at the corners of his lips, maybe explains it.
“I was just asking Kate here if she wanted to get away from the bar for a bit and dance.”
She grins this time, bashful in tipping her face down so she can hide behind a screen of chestnut curls.
“Oh, I’d love to but I need to stay and take care of the bar-“
“-Nonsense. I’m sure,” Rick breaks off and gestures at Scott as he says, “your friend can take care of things for a few minutes.”
She’s about to protest when she notices Scott lounging against the bar and drinking straight from a bottle of vodka with the metal pourer still inserted into the neck. “Hey, Scott, I’m taking a ten minute break. You can takeover things for a while here, right?” Kate asks, not bothering to look over her shoulder and listen to her colleague’s response as she lifts up the hinged portion of the bar and steps out from behind it, curling her fingers around the elbow Rick crooks for her.
He leads her back into the reception room, let’s her dawdle and take in all of the tiny LEDs set in the navy netting strewn along the ceiling, their light reflecting off the glitterball suspended in the centre of the room and dancing all around the room, a perfect mirror of the couples rocking and swaying below.
“I’ll be one second,” he murmurs, dropping her fingers and leaving her in the centre of the polished dancefloor.
She bounces on the balls of her feet nervously as her skin tingles with the weight of everyone else’s eyes. She hadn’t noticed before, but now she can’t help but be self-conscious of her plain black blouse and her scuffed, dusty shoes. All the other women are dressed in gorgeous dresses or pastel-coloured suits with feathery fascinators and hats; a stark contrast to her uniform clothing. Swallowing, she tries to ignore the inadequacy and the growing urge to spin on her heel and return to the bar where she belongs, searching instead for Rick in the crowd of dancers.
“Hey, I’m back!” His voice cuts through her panic, has her whirling around to face him and plastering a tremulous smile on her face. “You okay?”
“I-“
“Kate, relax. You look fine,” Rick assures her, grabbing hold of the hand still fluttering up and down her body, pulling on the hem of her shirt, and stilling it. He leans away from her, meets her eyes with concern. “Really. You look great, beautiful.” It’s not a lie. He doesn’t know how he ever missed how exquisitely gorgeous she is when he sat down on the bar stool opposite her. “I was just calling in a favour with the DJ,” he explains more for want of something to say as she blushes and averts her gaze from him.
“A favour?”
He’s saved from answering by the start of the next song, its upbeat tempo bringing more people back out onto the dancefloor despite the fact that this is the second time the record’s been spun on the deck.
Wide grin lighting her eyes, Kate flashes an amused look at him. “Whitney Houston, huh?”
“Yeah, you like that song remember?”
Stepping into his space, Kate lets one of her arms wind around his waist and tug him closer until there’s but the barest inch between their chests.
“And I thought you didn’t.”
He shrugs. “Maybe I just needed the right person to make me appreciate its message,” Rick replies, sweeping a lock of hair out of Kate’s eyes before his hands fall to her hips and rest there, both of them easily falling into a matched rhythm.
“So, Kate, tell me about you? You’re a bartender?”
His question raises her head and her response is murmured at his ear.
“Not really. I was just doing a favour for a friend tonight.”
“Oh, Richard, darling, there you are! I’ve been looking for you all over- Oh, and who is this lovely lady?”
“Mother,” he greets, never letting up in his swaying and simply nodding his head at the two women standing two feet away. “This is Kate.”
“Kate?”
“Mmhm.”
“And where did you meet, Kate?” his mother enquires quite obviously not asking out of interest.
He feels her spine straightening and elongating, holding her stiff in his arms while all of her movement arrests.
“At the bar,” he answers, being purposefully vague and enjoying the annoyance flashing in his mother’s eyes. “Anyway, must dance. I’ll see you later, Mother.” Without another word he’s twirling Kate and using the move to direct them elsewhere on the dancefloor before pulling her back in to rest against his chest. Her head comes under his chin and is she really that short? She’d looked so tall standing behind the bar, but she now she stands at least three inches lower than him - the perfect height for him to tip his nose into her hair and inhale the sweet, fruity scent clinging to her soft locks.
“You didn’t have to do that, you know,” she murmurs. “You could have told your mom that I’m the bartender.”
“But you’re not really a bartender,” he reminds her.
She smiles shyly again, turning her face into his neck so he can’t see the faint blush staining her cheeks. It’s only a few moments before her quiet humming fills his ears though. Looping his arms tighter around her, Rick continues to sway. Maybe weddings aren’t so bad, after all.

Awesome thank you! Looking forward to the rest of...
Oh, thank you! I’m only cutting out words at this point (clearly I’m too eloquent and not succinct enough) because I need to lose 1000 of them, but it’s hard work. I just can’t wait to be done with it!
do you know if the tumblr fic with beckett's dog stealing castle's shoes will be continued?
Oh that was by boundby-choice, Siobhan any plans?
Oh, no you didn’t miss anything, Alex so don’t worry about that. I hope the anon sees this! I am continuing the story as a multichaptered fic on fanfiction.net and I’ve started a second chapter. I’m just very busy at the moment with putting the finishing touches to my dissertation and revising for exams and work. Hopefully I can get round to making some proper progress on it soon. After all, who wouldn’t want to write about a dog that looks like this?!
What is the name of this fic? Would love to follow of fanfiction. But the link above doesn’t bring me to it
mary-b-5 that’s because I haven’t uploaded anything to fanfiction.net yet. I want to have the whole story written before I do any uploading and I still haven’t finished the second chapter. As soon as I have it all written, I’ll be posting it and posting a link to the story on this blog so hopefully you won’t miss it. :)

AU season 2 they're trapped somewhere during a snowstorm and oh there's only one bed
Thanks for the prompt, anon! Sorry it took me a few days to get round to it though.
The thin layer of snow crunches under the soles of her boots as Beckett steps out of her cruiser and leads the way to the cabin, knocking loudly on the frontdoor while Castle dawdles behind, spinning on his heel ever so often to look atthe forest around them.
“I don’t know how anyone could ever live like this,” he mutters, coming to a stop beside her. “It’s far too quiet. Eerie. I feel like awerewolf’s going to come bounding out any second and tear me to pieces.”
Kate sighs heavily. Of course he’s still going on aboutwerewolves. It’s been two weeks since they proved that Morlock was in fact not asupernatural creature, and yet he’s still banging on about it.
“Nope,I don’t understand the whole living-alone-in-the-wilderness mentalitywhatsoever.”
I saw a picture that said "you gotta marry someone you know you'd still be down to fuck in the laundry room real quick while the kids are downstairs watching Lion King & ten minutes left till the dinosaur nuggets are ready to come out the oven" - I think this is definitely Caskett and needs to be filled!
.
He glances into the living room one last time before hedecides that their kids are positively wrapped up in the movie and that nothing, not even a small earthquake, would distract them from singing along to “Hakuna Matata” any time soon.
He lingers in the door frame for a couple more seconds, watching her fold laundry into neat piles. Her fingers move with gentle precision and really, she shouldn’t look so hot while doing laundry.
She really shouldn’t.
“Whatcha doing?” He asks from the door frame and she turns around, eyes narrowed.
“Evidently, I am doing laundry.”
“Right,” he nods, index finger at his lips as if he has to ponder this very complex situation.
“What do you want, Castle,” she tries to bite back the smile tearing at her lips but as usual, she fails.
“Well,” he enters the room slowly, lips pursed and eyes fixated on her mouth, “I was thinking we could find,” he’s in front of her now, “more amusing ways to keep us occupied, while the kids watch TV.”
His palm comes to rest on her shoulder, fingers feathering across her collar bones and he watches as a tiny shudder dances along her skin.
“Castle,” it’s somewhere between amused resistance and husky approval and her eyes flutter closed when he presses his lips to her neck, low beneath her ear, where he can taste her pulse.
“We only have ten minutes before the dinosaur nuggets are ready to be out of the oven,” she argues, contradicting her statement immediately by leaning into the touch of his hands at her hips and waistline.
“All these years and you still doubt my abilities,” his lips roam against the valley of her breasts as he tugs the shirt up and eventually over her head.
“Someone is awfully sure of himself,” he knows she is struggling with words when his lips find one already peaked nipple and start sucking on the sensitive skin, biting down gently, only to soothe the stinging ache with the softness of his tongue immediately.
Oh he is good.
“I will prove myself to you once again,” his hands find the taunt skin of her stomach, skate along the rugs of her ribs, paying special attention to each curve, each indentation and each cove, like every breath was a work of braille, ready to be deciphered.
“Castle, I swear to you if you leave- oh,” a small gasp escapes her parted lips as his fingers reach the hem of her jeans and slide beneath the tight texture.
“These need to be off,” Castle decides and promptly starts undoing the button to pull them down.
Five more minutes.
His fingers slide along her still panty-clad skin, sensing the wetness through the black lace.
Finally his fingers slide underneath the fabric, drawing circles and mindless patterns across her engorged clit. Her hips buck into his hand on their own accord, seeking more friction already and she leans forward to bite down hard on the skin of his shoulder to stifle her moan.
“Kate, quiet, the kids are downstairs,” his mouth is still way too high up and she feels the low rumble of his laughter against her chest.
“They’re watching the Lion King, I can always pretend I was just starting to sing the Circle of Life,” she mumbles against his shoulder and he laughs.
“Nice one, Detective Beckett.”
“It worked before.”
“Don’t remind me,” and with that his mouth finally joins his roving fingers on her clit and she presses into his mouth as soon as his lips touch her. Her hands come behind her to find some kind of balance for herself and land on the laundry machine to hold her up.
His arms come around her waist and he lifts her up, so that she is sitting on the laundry machine for good, allowing him to bend down in front of her. She spreads her legs apart a little further, granting him better access to her aroused clit and he responds by entering her with his tongue.
The sensation is almost enough to have her come undone right there but he is far from done.
He replaces his tongue with his fingers, first two, then three, while still sucking on her clit lightly and kissing the insides of her now trembling thighs every now and then.
Her legs wrap around his waist, pulling him closer, an unvoiced beg to give her more. It’s not enough and she can feel her throat burning with all the sounds she keeps trapped.
“More,” she moans then and this time it’s unrestrained.
“Patience,” he breathes against her skin.
“Dinosaur nuggets,” she mumbles.
“You do know how to seduce a man,” he laughs and it hits her in all the right places and when his fingers start pumping, slow and measured at first, but quickly escalating into faster and sloppier movements, she finds her hips rotating with the movements of his fingers.
She comes undone when he curls them inside, hitting that one perfect spot that makes the world go white.
His other hand comes up to her face just in time to let her bite down on his index fingers and she is able to remain silent as the world explodes.
When she regains her awareness, they have exactly 20 seconds left to beat the clock and get the nuggets in time.
“Now what did I tell you?” He asks as she pulls on her shirt and buttons up her jeans.
She rolls her eyes and they make it downstairs just in time.
xx
“Why didn’t you watch the rest of the Lion King with us?” Grace asks when they have dinner.
“Oh, mommy and I had our own version,” Castle smirks in response.
Hey! So I'm new to writing fic, and I want to start working on my first multichapter. Do I write it all out first? Or do I update as I write it? I'm totally clueless and I don't wanna suck haha
It’s totally up to you anon
A lot of people write it out, or a decent amount of it first, so they can have chapters ready in advance and not worry about meeting deadlines. And if you are inspired to write that much ahead then it could be good
Others write as they go, as they get inspiration. It is probably a nice ego boost to post a chapter and here people excited about future chapters, so I know a lot of people like to do that too.
It is probably a good idea to at least plan the story out first a little so you know the general direction you are taking.
Any authors wanna weigh in? Good luck with the writing, no matter which way you do it! :)
I’ve written both ways and it’s definitely a case of whatever works best for you but also for the story.
Series of oneshots, or stories that originate out of oneshots people ask me to continue get updated as I write them normally. I’ve found this to occasionally be a bad move with things that develop out of oneshots because I haven't necessarily known all the ins and outs of the plot and have gotten stuck. Sometimes the pacing can feel a little off too and I generally find afterwards that I look back at the work and don’t like it.
I get the best pacing when I write the entire story before posting. It can be more fun too because you’re not interrupting your flow by writing and then maybe waiting a few more days before doing the next chapter. Because you’re doing it for the most part all in one go, it’s harder for your enthusiasm for the idea to fade.
There’s nothing really wrong with either method. And it’s usually a personal preference, or sometimes a decision that’s made by what circumstances you’re in - like for instance, the new stories I’ve been working on the last year-ish have had to be written in their entirety before being posted (unless it’s a short/oneshot prompt fill here on Tumblr) just because I’m too busy to be able to guarantee the ability to write and post with any regularity.
They slept together after Ryan's wedding but never talked about it. Kate finds out she is pregnant but doesn't know how to tell him, especially after the events of 47 seconds.
.
(I envision the whole ‘found out im pregnant’ thing at the beginning to be set maybe a month after Ryan’s wedding, so somewhere after 4x16.)
She tries not to think about it.
Not about the warmth of alcohol in her chest, the taste of him on her tongue (whiskey, and something earthy, and no that’s not what matters) - and she definitely doesn’t think about his hands somewhere between the ladder of her ribs and the juncture of her hips.
But no matter what, even if she stops thinking about the feel of him between her legs and all around her and her name cracking in two on his lips and the quiet stillness of them in the darkness of his room, it doesn’t change the outcome glaring at her from the stick in her hands.
Two lines.
Pregnant.
Kate tosses the stick to the floor, lowering herself to sit on the side of her bathtub as tears fill her eyes. She swipes at them with the back of her hand, furious. It wasn’t supposed to be like this - they deserve more. He deserves more, more than she can give him.
Pregnant. And all she can think about is the warmth of his skin against hers and the coffee he’d made her the next morning and the understanding in his eyes when she had kissed him before she’d left and by they next day they’d fallen back into their usual pattern of not just friends but not quite lovers yet, either.
Kate sighs, scoops the stick up from the floor and tosses it in the trashcan as her phone lights up and blares her ringtone. Caller ID says it’s Esposito.
Later.
She’ll tell Castle later.
*
Later winds up being an awfully long time.
Everything is okay and she’s invited to his house for an encore of his mother’s play and holds his hand and yet she says nothing. His eyes twinkle with hope and she thinks soon. She’s still trying to wrap her head around this herself, doesn’t want to tell if she hasn’t decided whether to keep the child or not (what is she going to do with a baby? Will there still be a chance for them? Will he try and marry her like he did with Meredith?).
So she leaves it. Tries to ignore the problem and hopes it will go away.
And then there’s the bombing case, and she thinks - she hopes he’s going to say something, because pregnancy or no pregnancy, she wants him. All of him, and she thinks she should be ready for him. Could be. Is.
He brushes her off.
Kate goes home, cursing his name. Who does he think he is? Okay, maybe she was the one who left after their night together, and maybe she was the one who had instigated it, but she’d thought he’d wanted this. Her. Oh, who is she kidding? Of course he doesn’t. He could have anyone he wants. Why would he pick her?
“Ugh,” she stares down at the glass of bourbon she’s automatically poured for herself, before picking it up and shoving the glass into the sink. She’s pregnant. Pregnant. Can’t drink alcohol.
Been cutting down on her caffeine intake, too, which had made him raise his eyebrows at first but now he no longer meets her eyes so why the hell would he notice if she’s switched to decaf?
Kate slumps, palms flat against her kitchen counter and feels those bitter tears sting her eyes. Pregnant.
She’s going to have a baby.
She needs to call her dad. Tell him he’s going to be a grandpa, no matter whether she and Castle are together - she knows this child will be loved, by her dad, and Castle, and his family, and of course, by her.
Hesitantly, Kate lifts a palm from the counter, pushes up her sweater to rest her hand against her lower stomach. It’s probably just her imagination, but it doesn’t feel quiet as muscular, as flat, as it did before. She can’t be that pregnant already, someone would’ve noticed. So far, blessedly, she’s skipped the morning sickness thing - something her mother had never experienced with her.
Oh, God. Her mom.
Kate looks down at her stomach, crying alone in the darkness of her kitchen. She needs to buy vitamins. And see her doctor. She’s going to be a mom, and she’s damn well going to be as good as she can at it.
“Hi, baby,” she whispers, thumb running over her stomach.
She’s going to have a baby.
*
His copy of her ultrasound is tucked away in her coat and she tells herself today.
They’ve caught a body late at night, once uni’s have processed everything and the body is back at the morgue they can leave. And she won’t let Castle brush her off this time. She’ll take him back to her place, somewhere without the interference of his family, and tell him that they’re going to have a baby.
Easy.
It’ll be easy.
But then he turns up in his Ferrari with a blonde and she forgets how to breathe, feels ready to cry on the spot right there. He’s seeing someone new. She’s been torturing herself every night for weeks because she’s carrying his child and he’s giving the keys to his Ferrari to Jacinda the air hostess?
She can’t look at him. Won’t look at him. Refuses to listen to his story about his weekend and focuses on the body instead, even though the sight makes her stomach roll, and oh no, maybe she really will get morning sickness, and this is so not the time -
“Kate?”
Beckett snaps out of her reverie, staring with wide eyes at Lanie. Castle, Ryan and Esposito have disappeared.
“Honey, is something wrong?” Her friend reaches across the dead body between them, squeezes her forearm.
Yes, she wants to say. Instead, she pushes back her tears, nodding uncertainly at her friend and standing.
It’s okay.
It’ll be okay.
*
He tries to leave. Her. The case. The precinct, for lunch with a blonde he barely knows.
“You are not leaving,” she hisses, glancing warily over at Inspector Hunt who looks at her with an interest Castle had lost so long ago.
Castle raises his eyebrows, giving her a double take. “Excuse me?”
Kate growls, grabbing his arm and marching him into the break room. She knows it’ll spark rumors around the fishbowl of the precinct, but they’ll find out Castle knocked her up soon enough anyway, so she tugs all the shutters closed without regret as the father of her child (woah) stares at her as though she’s just grown a second head.
Finally, with a little privacy between them, Kate swivels to face him, hands on her hips.
“You are not going on any more dates with this - this Jacinda,” she spits, “and you’re not going on impromptu trips to wherever the Hell it is you’ve been this weekend, and you do not get to just walk out!”
Castle approaches her steadily, glowering. “Since when was I not free to leave the precinct? In case you hadn’t noticed, Beckett, I don’t work here.”
“You need to be more responsible, Castle! You’re a dad, you don’t get to just - “
“Alexis is eighteen and going to college soon. And my daughter is no business of yours,” he tosses at her, upper lip curling as he crowds her against the counter. “In fact, my daughter, who I date, Hell, I am not your business anymore, Beckett. You made it that way.”
Tears prick in her eyes. “Rick - “
“Oh no. No,” his voice is low and stern and she wishes they could go back, start all over again so that she could love him in the right way this time. “You don’t get to call me that. You don’t have any right to dictate what I do and don’t do anymore. Do you know how much this whole thing has hurt me, Kate? You tell me to wait for you and then we sleep together and you know what, that could’ve been okay, I could’ve waited because I thought you were worth it, but this whole time - this whole time - you’ve remembered your shooting, and thought you’d just string me along.”
I thought you were worth it.
It slams into her, leaves her breathless as tears make her vision go blurry.
He’s waiting for her to say something - but what? How does she say I’m sorry and I love you and I’m having your baby when he doesn’t think she’s worth it anymore?
Castle sighs, dropping his forehead to press against hers and she trembles, the words right on the tip of her tongue.
“It could’ve been okay. You only had to tell me you didn’t feel the same way,” he mumbles, and she shakes her head because no, no this isn’t how it’s supposed to be.
He moves away, scrubbing a hand across his mouth and she wonders if he still remembers the taste of her against his lips. That night burns in the back of her mind every night. They made a baby.
“I think - I think it’d be for the best if I just stopped. Shadowing you, I mean,” he tells her, and if he says anything else she thinks she’s going to fall to pieces at his feet. “I - I’ll see you around, Beckett.”
He turns, he’s leaving, and she panics, can’t prevent herself from blurting out the words inelegantly.
“I’m pregnant!”
Castle pauses, his broad shoulders stiff and every movement forced as he turns to face her, questions in his eyes.
Kate fumbles for the ultrasound in her pocket, stretching out a hand to offer the glossy photograph of the grainy image of their child to him.
“This is your copy,” she says softly.
He takes two slow steps forward, taking the copy from her hands and staring down at it.
“You’re… It’s mine?”
Kate’s eyes slam closed. “Of course it’s yours.”
“And you’re… you’re keeping it?”
Kate opens her eyes again, awkwardly knits her fingers together in front of her.
“Yeah. I - at first I wasn’t sure - but… yes, I’m keeping it.”
Castle nods, slow and stiff still - surprised. There’s something shining in his eyes, something beautiful.
“I’m about ten weeks along,” she tells him. “I - I tried to tell you a little while ago, you deserve to know. Be a part of the baby’s life. But it never seemed like the right time.”
She realises that he hasn’t taken his eyes from the photo in his hands until he’s tearing his gaze away to meet hers. His eyes are watery, tears lurking there and a faint smile ghosting his lips. He’s - happy? She hopes he’s happy, has seen how much he loves his daughter and despite the fact the timing is wrong, she realises with a clinch in her chest that she’d been terrified he could never love a child that was half her like he’d love Alexis.
“So you and I - we’re - having a baby?” He chokes out.
Kate nods. “Yeah, I - I guess so.”
Castle lets his smile grace his face then, eyes crinkling around the corners.
“I - I can help you pay for the medical bills and, we’ll need to tell Gates? And there’s so much to think about, buying cribs and toys and clothes and - will the baby have a room at yours and mine, or - I mean - do you want - “
She silences his ramblings by grabbing a fistful of his shirt and capturing his lips with hers. Instantly his lips open for her, soft and wet and warm and she groans, bumping her hips into his.
“You,” she practically sobs against his mouth. “I want you - and I want us - and not just because of this baby, but because that’s what I’ve wanted for a long time.”
His hands curl at her waist, eyes wide. “But, Kate, you - “
“Lied,” she says quietly, fingers flirting with the collar of his shirt. “It’s not because I didn’t feel the same way, Castle. It’s because I wasn’t ready, I needed time to heal, and then I was stupid and drunk and slept with you when I shouldn’t have and - “
“It wasn’t a mistake,” he grinds out fiercely, palm falling from her waist to cover her stomach.
Her eyes flutter closed, leaning her forehead against his shoulder. “No. Not a mistake.”
There’s silence, interrupted by the gentle whisper of their breathing, his own curling around the shell of her ear. It reminds her of the afterwards, when she’d come down from her high and his skin was illuminated by the moonlight outside and he hadn’t said a word as she’d turned her face into his neck and let out a few tears.
He’d been there then.
He’s here now.
“We can take this one day at a time, Kate,” he tells her slowly. “You and me and the baby. We’ll figure it all out along the way.”
Kate nods, pulls back from his shoulder to kiss him softly.
“Yeah,” she whispers, eyelashes matted with tears. “We always do.”
