If Devon’s picked up anything about Strazni since meeting him, it’s that Strazni is strong, but not infallible. Sort of like him, in a way, though unless that arm has something more to its origin that Devon’s missing, his reasons for keeping this sort of thing to himself are far different.

Devon’s smile drops, a corner of his mouth turning down into a thoughtful frown. His eyes show much more pity and understanding than the rest of him does. He’s heard what Strazni and his fiancee have been through together. He’s seen them interact.

(The thought of the rest of his party caring for him is still such a new and bizarre thing. They’ve accepted him with warts and all, and he’s grown very attached to them even if he knows he shouldn’t; the weight of not knowing if any of the others escaped that godforsaken basement lays heavier on Devon’s heart than he wants it to. But he isn’t important, here.)

“I’ve only been here for a little while, myself.” He isn’t one for meaningless platitudes, but he’ll let the facts hang in the air; he could’ve simply missed the bard. “Barovia seems like a difficult place to keep your spirits up in, but from what I’ve seen, if anyone can, it’s him.”

Until he decided to suplex her down into the earth’s core, maybe. Besides, she was always one to find out the hard way… even if there was someone advising her against this right now, she absolutely would not be listening.

He took the candy bar from her grasp and her warning came too late as she watched him bite into the chocolate without unwrapping it first. “Yer supposed ta– never mind…” Guess they didn’t have candy bars where he was from, huh? She tried again. “Yer supposed ta take th’ paper off first, ya big dummy!” The insult wasn’t intended to be offensive, instead her tone was a teasing one. She started to laugh. “The wrapper ain’t good for ya, yer right about that! Ya don’t have these things where yer from? What d’ya even eat?” What was better than candy? Absolutely nothing, that’s what. 

♠ »» more than platinum?  izek didn’t know there was something more than the richest material in the forgotten realms––besides enchanted metals, but then if he can’t have his steel battleaxe, he doesn’t believe she has magical items on her person.  his eyes narrow as he chews thoughtfully on the bite of candy-bar and candy-bar shell in his hand, though when harley tells him to peel the shell off, he does.  the taste becomes much better.

          she’s definitely teasing him quite a bit throughout this conversation, and so he’s loath to believe the dollar is worth more than platinum.  in fact, it may be worth in the silver range... possibly even copper, with how she’s going on.  his eyes narrow further; izek strazni is not one to like being played for a fool.

          “well, we have standard food; bread, cheese, stews, wine, wolf meat... and it’s all worth more than this dollar could buy, i would imagine,” he says, voice slowly growing to more and more of a growl as he speaks.  “you are lucky i did not pay for my evening meal with this.  if i found out that you had made a fool of me, you would not look so pretty, i will assure of that.”

The knife wasn’t even that special; she just stole it from a restaurant last week but she supposed she should be thankful she got to keep it. You never know when you needed it, after all. She took the knife back but held the dollar up as if it were some sacred treasure.

“Behold the dollar! It’s money… but it’s like, a billion coins,” She said dramatically. “It can getcha all kinds a’ stuff. It’s worth a lot.” She would spare him a glance; hopefully he’d believe her. The things she’d do for piggy-backs and also the fact he did look like he could annihilate her should he chose to. As for magical properties…

She offered the candy bar. “If ya eat this, ya get a ton a’ energy! Pretty cool, right? It’s like…” What was it called in games? Oh, right. “Like ya refill yer HP. Or somethin’. An’ this…” The other item in her hand; she didn’t have a clue where it came from or why she even had it and honestly, she couldn’t even think of a bullshit excuse for it. “I just think it’s neat.”

♠ »» “a billion coins?  what kind, then?  copper, silver, electrum, gold––i do not believe this is worth platinum, but i will not rule that out,” izek says, taking a look at the little slip of paper.  the other items do not interest him much, though he is a little hungry.  he’ll snatch the chocolate bar and bite into it, paper and all, making a face as he does so.  the brown part is sweet, though––a little too sweet for him.  markos would love it.

          “what in the world is with the shell on this?  it would poison a lesser humanoid.” he looks at the chocolate bar accusingly, disgusted with its dual taste.

♠ »» “what is a dollar?” izek has to ask.  he studies the items in harley’s hands, most of them unfamiliar.  he will take the knife and study it.  “this is very small.  i would crush it in my hand.  but i suppose it is good for you, so you can keep it.  what else are all of these items worth?  do any of them have magical properties?” that strange slip of paper––the dollar, she called it?––looks promising.  maybe it has a spell on it somewhere, or it’s enchanted.

          izek leans down to get on bootsy’s eye level.  “i would recommend you leave me alone, or your face is going to cordially meet the blunt side of my axe.  your measly little pet might just meet the sharper end if you are not careful.  get out of my sight.”

     The Bamboo Grove… A popular spot for those who desire either simple peace and quiet, or an isolated training spot. For Adam, this was a fine place for him to try and sort out his thoughts. The moment Adam first arrived here, his personal stability was rather… fractured; cracked and broken in more ways than one. His loss of emotional control was a core component in his own demise, he concluded. But while these moments of isolation came with both good and bad moments of pondering, the bull certainly felt progress being made over his emotional state.

     But before he could truly allow himself to relax for the current session, he heard a newcomer’s footsteps through the grove. Was it someone who had business with him… or a mere stranger passing by? In either case, his masked gaze shifted over to the new arrival– a horned man who stood a few inches above Adam.

          “… Do you need something? Or are you simply passing by?“

♠ »» izek isn’t expecting someone to talk to him in this quiet place filled with strange, stalk-like plants that wave gently in the wind that whistles through them, making eerie, faint whispers of half-sung tones.  it’s, oxymoronically, as unsettling as it is comforting, but the sound of someone’s voice snaps him out of whatever reverie he’s in.

          he looks towards the noise first with only his eyes, his head tilting just the barest degree to look at the man who reached out to him.  “passing by,” he says, voice low and quiet as to not disturb the rest of this grove.  “but if you want something with me, i have no reason not to give it to you.” a small threat lays deep in his words.
