In my asks recently, someone wrote vaguely of the discourse around CPs choosing ‘safe’ series. I mentioned that nc series aren’t necessarily more risky than other kinds of series. But Love You Teacher is not safe in any way.

In both the content of its nc scenes and the much more tame plot, it pushes against BL trends. First, it ignores trending BL tropes—it kicks off with an established couple. They’re older professionals. This is not a story of first time love nor hot steamy adult romance. These aren’t adorable teens or hot gangsters. LYT is about enduring through change, disability, and responsibility within a relationship. Hardly sweet and hardly sexy from a marketing perspective.

And yet, it doesn’t look away from their sex life the way many other established couple BLs do. We get a clear view of it, which could be catering to the fan desire for nc scenes, except the sexuality depicted is an even riskier gamble. Perhaps the most controversial conversation (within the history of American queer discourse at least) is sexuality and queer sexuality adjacent to children. It’s risky enough already that Pobmek and Solar are queer teachers who are open with their affection on school grounds. Then, at home the audience gets to see their enjoyment of kink. Why stop there? Take it one step further: we have a complete mental regression to childhood within the partnership they have to navigate. This is the fuel many conservatives would salivate over throwing into the discourse. All the more important, in my opinion, that it deserves to be addressed in the thoughtful manner the show seems to be going for.

Love You Teacher is about as risky as it gets right now.

I’m guessing the first half of the show will focus on how Pobmek and the group deal with Solar’s age regression, while the latter half will likely explore the reason behind it. There must be some kind of trauma that triggered it in the first place.

I’m curious why he regresses specifically to a 7-year-old. Did he experience something traumatic at that age? Or, even more unfortunate, is it because that's the last time he truly felt like a child? Since age regression can also be triggered by emotional stress—which he may have experienced growing up (i'm getting the sense that Solar's a caretaker)—it could be his mind’s way of returning him to a younger version of himself as a form of healing and self-protection.
