cute lil dream fragments
- a character with FOUL tattooed on one hand and FAIR on the other
- a quartet of demons called Pallor, Algor, Rigor, and Livor
- ocean-crystallized book dedicated to Neptune
- a kind of guard-creature (like those shade dog things from D&D) made out of teeth and dental nerves
- "telling the bees" but it's mind-servants telling secrets to a sinister hive intelligence
- an herbal magic system based on the remarkable aesthetic variety of maize
eerie villains taking the form of early-'30s female TV announcers, with discolored max factor makeup to match. they do a sort of beriozka and have super heightened performative mannerisms. always devour your prey with a smile!
we've cultivated a generation of screen-obsessed children, but not the one we thought we would. the reactionary echo chamber is a gigantic online pen of intellectual toddlers, terrified of having their favorite strawmen taken away from them. if we thought those children restraint and kindness, it would be no trouble to take care of them, and the daycare would have to close

liminal spaces
liminal spaces are a symptom of late capitalism?
the alienation from our environments creates a strange doublethink where we have a deep emotional attachment to certain places, but we have a simultaneous awareness that these places are existentially meaningless by virtue of having no identity. the way in which we are reduced to interchangeable workers/consumers prompts a Nostalgia Paradox: we love these places, but they do not know us.
is this inherently harmful, and has this happened before? the extent to which places are uniform and the extent to which we are aware of the uniformity probably hasn’t. i suppose theological “transitional spaces” like Purgatory are liminal spaces because they are times/places of passage, of transformation; but there’s nothing so spiritually revelatory about a defunct hotel or abandoned park, at least not as we usually understand them. it’s not very Rational™ or Enlightened® to make them so sublime, after all.
how quickly will these become relics of the past? we still treasure castles, preserve them as artifacts, tour them in reverence. does an environment become Gothic when one loses the nostalgia? when all that is left is the haunting recognition that this place stands for no one?
civil public debate might work if it took less time to debunk a lie than it does to say it
And here face down beneath the sun
And here upon Earth's noonward height
To feel the always coming on
The always rising of the night
- You, Andrew Marvell, Archibald MacLeish
Not forever on earth; only a little while here.
Be it jade, it shatters.
Be it gold, it breaks.
Be it a quetzal feather, it tears apart.
Not forever on earth; only a little while here.
- ruler and philosopher Nezahualcóyotl (1402-72) of the Triple Alliance
