Huernia barbata is a tricky one to identify, unless you find it in situ of course out in it’s habit growing under scrubland shrubs in Western cape or Northern cape of South Aftica , it’s all a bit of a hairy predicament in collections(Pun intended). With stems and tubericals similar in colour to that of O. melanantha( Syn. Orbeanthus melanthus, Orbeopsis melanantha) in the right condition and younger stems looking very similar to other Huernia sensu lato, it is wise to always remember to wait and get a flower before jumping to an Id. (also note: recent change in genus name may not be up to date in all literature; so, also make sure to search Stapelia barbata if the issue arises).
