My favorite part of this has always been that Jinki just says thank you
It’s okay to cheer up tomorrow No, it’s okay even by the day after tomorrow ♥
i think…. with jonghyun, you see how powerful depression can be, how heavily it can alter someone’s perspective of reality, and their beliefs about themselves. this was a man who always made it his mission to help others feel loved, understood. this was someone who was kind, gentle, and fought for those who didn’t have a voice. but still he hated himself, thought he wasn’t worth living.
i think, that if you can learn anything from this, learn this: if you are depressed and feel like you are rotten from the inside, if you feel like you’ve never helped anyone, feel like you don’t deserve the love you receive, remember how brightly he shone, and i promise you that’s how brightly you shine too. remember that under your clouds of depressive thoughts, no matter how impossibly thick they may seem, is the real you, dazzling, and that you are worth living and loving and being loved.
I understand that people think it’s too soon for SHINee to perform out of concern, but let’s keep in mind that normalcy and routine is good for people who are trying to cope with grief.
For most of us that’s working and doing daily chores/errands, attending classes, etc. Being on stage is what’s normal for SHINee. Singing and dancing their jobs. Practicing is their equivalent of going to school. So let’s see this as a good thing and show support.
Ahh remember when Jjong wished his members a happy new year and gave them like 5 mins to reply before going to twitter to (jokingly) complain that they didn't reply to him :')
🌹
send me memories of jonghyun, lets remember him happily together
I hope when people talk about Jonghyun, it’s not just about his passing...
I hope they mention his struggles he had to overcome as a child being raised by a single parent, and had to essentially live on welfare for part of his life.
I hope they mention that despite the opposition, he dropped out of school and got a GED in order to invest himself fully in his music.
I hope they mention the years he devoted as a trainee before debuting and consistently ranked as one of the top vocalists from the time he was signed.
I hope they mention his on-stage charisma with Shinee and as a soloist that captivated audiences for almost 10 years.
I hope that they mention what he was able to crossover from being an idol to being an artist, and a singer-songwriter at that.
I hope they talk about how his feat was unprecedented and all of his music has been subject to critical acclaim and praise across the board not just in Korea, but also recognized by Western critics and publications.
I hope they mention that he wrote and composed not only for SM and himself, but for other artists outside of the company, creating collaborative ties that helped to facilitate SM’s investment in such collaborations musically with the start of The Station.
I hope they mention his years as a radio DJ on Blue Night becoming an outlet for him and his skills, and for helping to appeal general audiences to take notice of his work despite the bias against idols.
I hope they mention his skills as a poet and writer for contemporary literature with his novel Skeleton Flower: things that have been released and set free, which also received commercial and critical success.
I hope they mention how he released 4 solo albums (with 1 to be released posthumously) in the past three years while still promoting with Shinee as a group in between.
I hope they mention his four series of sold-out solo concerts in those three years, each of them artistically diverse and marvels.
I hope they mention that he broke away from his “assigned” image in order to be true to himself and to his fans.
I hope they mention that he put his career on the line to advocate for education, LGBTQ+ rights, mental health awareness, and anti-discrimination for minorities.
I hope they mention that he never hid his emotions, and his lyrics came from the depths of his soul and touched countless others.
I hope they mention his undying love for his family and his members.
I just hope they mention how much of a legacy he left behind, and how important and beautiful that legacy is.
A Shawol’s mother who is a psychologist that specializes in bereavement counselling has setup a Facebook group to support those weighed down by the grief of Jonghyun’s death. She created this safe space for Shawols to use .. please feel free to go there and ask for help. Here’s is a bit from the home page
“Many, many people who loved Jonghyun of SHINee have been devastated by his death some days ago, and are also deeply anxious about the well being and continuation of the rest of the band, now that he is no longer with us. I have created this space to enable anybody who is genuinely grieving for this talented, lovable young man to share their feelings and pain safely and without risk of being laughed at or trolled. This is where they can offer mutual support and, if they wish, draw on my experience of counselling bereaved souls as they strive for peace and closure.”
2018 SHINee Season Greetings
seeing jonghyun do so well on the charts and gain millions of new views across videos on all that is so… bittersweet. i don’t blame any one individual for only discovered jonghyun’s music now, but in a broader sense it’s melancholic to think that he only gets this sort of appreciation after what happened. he deserved appreciation from the wider industry, he deserved it all since day 1
