@braxtonmelrose-blog
hi
Earth to New York, I went to a day spa
Day. D-A-I-Y-E. Okay?
Well. I've successfully landed a job.
Doesn’t pay that great
Waitressing in New York City - how wonderful.
Being a waitress would be cool because food, but you should just steal some of Jon's money. Lord knows he has plenty and there is only so much pay per view porn one man can buy.
Heidi surprises Braxton by showing up at his house and falling asleep on his couch until he returns home.
Braxton/Sara - Up In Flames
The slew of emotions that seemed to be running through Sara were varied and stretched across the emotional range and Sara wasn’t quite sure how to process it all. From the heart racing, anxiety ridden moment of talking about their past and their regrets, to how easily he turned it around by bringing up Heidi, Sara was dealing with each one as it came to her quickly. He was right though, they’d gotten Heidi out of all of this and Sara couldn’t imagine her life in any way without the little girl, she was a little reminder of everything she and Braxton had once shared. The product of that love, they’d once had. A knot tied in her stomach at the thought of it in the past tense, like that. Her finger traced around the rip of her martini glass as he spoke about Jon’s book and her mind still tried to work out her feelings. “We did get something pretty amazing out of it all.” She nodded her head as she spoke. Even if they didn’t have each other anymore, they would always have that, they would always have Heidi. There was no greater proof of their love for each other than that perfect little girl they’d created.
Glancing up at him finally, the smile tugged at the corner of her lips before she brought the martini glass to her lips and took a long sip. “That guy?” Sara said an eyebrow raised as the soft smile appeared on her face as she looked away for a moment. “I don’t know, I thought he was a whole lot more than that. I mean he had his moments, but I always found him endearingly sweet underneath it all.” Her voice held a tone that showed just how honest and true the words to her as she turned blue eyes back to the brown ones across from her. “Then again I could be slightly biased.” A shy smile appeared on her face as she looked down, a tinge of pink to her cheeks. There were things that Jonathan Parker could never have been able to capture in his book, because he hadn’t been privy to the side of Braxton that Sara had known so well. He’d missed out on the little things, the moments that had been stained in her mind forever, capturing an image of Braxton Melrose’s high school self into her memory forever. Things like how he used to insist on cooking for her or how he’d become extremely clumsy in her presence because he just couldn’t tear himself away from her. This was a side Sara was sure Jonathan was familiar with now, even more than herself. Braxton’s ramblings on their friendship cause her to laugh gently, her head shaking and her blonde curls moving effortlessly about her face. “It was everything I could have hope for back then. It’s really nice to see you so close.” She said sincerely her head falling to the side for a moment as she smiles at him. “Now if you’d only listen to me back than you two could have been the best of friends all along.” She said teasingly to him. It was nice to have this light hearted banter back; it was a great change from the constant awkwardness that surrounds their situation.
Bring the last morsel of grilled cheese to her lips, she savors the taste in her mouth as she chews slowly, glancing up at him as she notices his sudden nervous turn. Taking in his question she swallows, whipping at her mouth with the napkin before speaking. “Okay, but when have I ever been able to say no to you?” She says waiting for his actual question. For a moment she wonders if he’s going to be sick he’s acting so unnerved. Silently she watches him, taking in as he relaxed shoulders. Sara can’t think of anything he’d have to ask her to do that would grant the response of ‘hell no’ too. Then again, it was Braxton, the only person in her life who never ceased to surprise her. Her mouth falls open just the slightest when he finally asks her and the unsteady beating of her heart rings in her ears. “A dance?” She managed to say after a long moment of speechless silence. Teeth sink into her bottom lip hiding the smile that creeps across her features as she nods her head with a childish excitement. “You do kind of owe me after all.” Sara says playfully as she wipes the nonexistent crumbs from her lips once more and reaches for her martini glass. Emptying the contents of the glass before she slides out from the chair to stand, her tongue peaks out tracing her lips and licking away the remains of the martini on them.
The perfect lights of the city sparkling in the night sky surrounding them on the fancy yacht. It was all perfectly romantic for two people who were supposed to be anything but romantic anymore. Would it be so wrong to let herself slip back into that moment, at least just for the tiniest moment to just enjoy being back in his strong muscular arms. To forget about the past, forget about Mia and Sebastian, and just enjoy a moment. It didn’t have to mean anything more than a dance between two old right friends. “So what your socialite skills have improved your dancing skills?” She asked curiously as she moved slowly around the table to him. Tucking a loose strand of blonde hair behind her ear she smiled at him. “So how about that dance?” She said holding out her hand to him. In all honesty she was curious to see they really had, from what she could remember he had been a fairly good dance when they’d been in high school. It was rare she’d get her toes stepped on dancing with Braxton and that only seemed to happen when he was distracted by other aspects.
Her arms slips around his neck, leaving a comfortable distance between them still, or at least a distance that might be socially acceptable if Sebastian or Mia was present. The second she’s back in his arms Sara is overcome with the rip tide of nostalgia that rips through her. Its weird how they seemed to fit together just right and as she breathes in her senses are over taken by the smell of him. Looking up at him through her lashes she wonders if he can feel the pounding of her heart against her chest. “Maybe you have gotten better at this.” She says and she has this overwhelming shy feeling now which makes her feel off her game because Braxton Melrose has never made her feel shy, if anything he brought out the complete opposite in her.
“Well, you know,” Braxton said with a boyish smile, giving a casual shrug. “Embracing my own femineity has never been one of my strong suits.” Braxton withheld the temptation to pinch or squeeze some part of his body, just to make sure that this conversation they were sharing was really taking place and not some illusion he’d fabricated. His hand clutches gently onto hers, leading her inside the yacht. “I miss that jeep,” Braxton playfully retorted, trying not to become too roped into the fond memories from the past. “I spent up a whole summer saving up for that lump of crap but it was worth it. I had some pretty good times in it.” His lips were pulled into a smirk, a pool of distinct occasions rushing through his mind. “Like, that time we almost died in it.” It was amusing to think about the shenanigans Braxton, Sara and the rest of their friends had gotten up to. They had plenty of near death experiences that none of them seemed to take seriously whatsoever, blessing them with the ignorance of being under the impression they were in fact immortal. “That actually was a great night, you know, before that whole rolling backwards into the lake thing.”
Finishing off his meal was easy, after all, it was mac and cheese. More importantly, it was about to be finished with a dance shared between the two of them. “Mia and I hardly dance,” Braxton commented, hardly giving much thought to their superficial relationship. It was difficult to recall any times he had spent with Mia over the last few years when his mind was busy recollecting all the times he had shared with Sara. When he wasn’t thinking about how their lives once were, Braxton was wrapped up in thinking about how their lives could be in the future. As Sara held out her hand, Braxton took it in his own. His fingers cradled around the palm of it, gently holding it as he led her to the deck. Her arm seemed to naturally fall around his neck as his free hand slipped carefully around her lower back. Braxton could really only blame himself for having the two of them wind up in such a romantic position, but it was a blame he was willing to live with. It was in this moment that Braxton started to take note of the way Sara was holding herself around him. It almost mirrored his own expression and body language.
“I told you,” he spoke softly in response to her, daring to take a step forward to take away a small amount of distance between them. His thumb grazed against her own, his fingers entwined as he directed their bodies in a hardly appropriate slow dance for two people who were in committed relationships with other people. The atmosphere almost replicated Devil Town, needless to say, Braxton was lost in the moment. There was no hint of nostalgia present because this time and place was better than any he had ever been in. His body moved without him giving it any direction, his eyes slowly moving to look at Sara. Once fast paced and uncontainable, his breathing mellowed as his entire gaze focused on Sara and only Sara. She was the most beautiful woman he had seen in his entire life - inside and out. Snapping out of his daze, he shook his with a smile to lighten the unfathomable intensity. Licking his lip, Braxton took a step back from Sara and spun her outside, keeping hold of her hand as he watched her spin out from him, catching her by surprise before rolling her back into him.
Feeling her collide into his chest, their close proximity was electrifying. Braxton lunged Sara’s body ever so slightly, his smile still evident. Maybe it was the alcohol or the inadvertently romantic dance dream sequence, or simply maybe it was the fact it was physically impossible for Braxton to resist Sara, but for whatever reason, Braxton took it upon himself to let his lips press against hers. His head leaned into hers as his arm supported her, while his hand that was holding onto hers previously let go and cupped her cheek, guiding her into a kiss. His hand drifted past her cheek, running through her hair. Her lips were as soft as her hands, making it impossible to pull himself away from her. With his eyes shut tight, it was only now Braxton realized that he would never stop loving her. Whether he was playing the part as her platonic acquaintance or being a doting father to their daughter, Braxton Melrose’s heart would always belong to Sara Cunningham. He wasn’t about to lose her to Sebastian or anyone; fighting for her affections was something he simply had to do and the only way he’d ever back down was if she honestly told him she had moved on and was better without him. Right now, she needed to know how he felt about her- how he had always felt about her. The kiss provided more than he could ever vocalize.
Well since the cats out of the bag....
Seems like a third of the old Devil Town gang are felons. Ah, nostalgia sweeping in. I’m just trying to do my bid in helping society by blessing them with my face and body. Honestly, flying under the radar for me would be far too cruel for humanity.
And here everyone was thinking you’d be on that list, I guess one Melrose is plenty for the correctional facilities to handle. I’m sure the woman of the world would be upset, a disservice to them all. Although I heard you’ve hooked yourself up to an old ball and chain, I’m sure your fan base isn’t too thrilled about that. Or you know a certain blonde.
I can proudly say I have never murdered anyone - which is an accomplish for us lot. Speaking of which, settling down was a pretty big accomplishment for me to. We're all moving on with our lives, it seems. Not really though. Now that you aren't in hiding, maybe you can be one of my groomsmen at my wedding. I'll have a whole line up of fellas - yourself, Jon being the best man obviously, Sam, and Charlie. I am not sure if Mia, that's my fiance, will have all that many bridesmaids, unless she pays some girls. I'm sure you can hook in with one of them, that is unless you have a girlfriend? Not that infidelity isn't a practically renowned vice I practice myself or anything like that.
Well since the cats out of the bag....
Well shit, isn’t this an unsuspecting blast from the past. I pegged you to be hiding out somewhere more exotic, like Puerto Rico or Brazil. Well, anyway, welcome back, Osterman. I can’t tell whether your sudden departures mean you’re simply MIA or temporarily dead, but it’s nice you’re showing your face off again.
Yeah, it seems I’m pretty damn good at flying under the radar, you know whether its dying or just running from the law. Its funny no matter where I ran though, there was you obnoxiously large billboard. See you chose to put your pretty face to good use, nicely done Melrose.

I suppose it wouldn’t kill me to get out and be more social. What the hell is there to do in this town anyways?

Braxton/Sara - Up In Flames
A giggle escapes her lips as he begins to speak about Heidi and her good genes. Braxton poking fun at himself made her smile, it reminded her that the boy she once knew and loved was still a part of who he was. “Oh come on, I always knew you had a brain, Just a very short attention span when you’re around woman. Your mind was usually elsewhere.” Sara teased enjoying the light hearted banter of it all. She remembered fondly all the times she’d tried to help him with his school work or even study in his presence that had end in them spending their time in less than academic manner. The mood shifts slightly though when he begins to speak about his fiancé. Nodding her head as he explained their situation. With Braxton and Mia being such public figures in New York, Sara was well aware of the ‘kind of girl’ Mia was and she was exactly excited to have her daughter around that kind of person. “That makes sense, it’s not exactly an easy thing to break to someone.
Truthfully, I always thought I’d marry you. These words seem to ring in her mind and for a moment she loses all focus on what he is saying and just lets those words play over and over again in her mind. When she finally breaks herself from the thoughts that were flooding her mind, she realized she had been holding her breath. She felt light headed as she took a quiet deep breath hoping not to draw too much attention to how unnerving this had made her feel. “Yeah I remember reading about it in society pages of the Times. Pretty big deal I guess.” Sara explained as she reached for her glass and brought it to her lips taking another long drink. It was almost unnerving knowing so much about his life from the society pages. While she knew that not all of it was the truth, there was a great deal to be said about the stories that were told on those pages. Sara sometimes wished she didn’t know all of these things, being left in the dark about the former love of her life current love life was completely unsettling. Not to mention Sara wasn’t sure if the things she had done were because she wanted them to happen or because of something she learned. She still remembered the day she read about his engagement in the paper, how could she not. It was the day she’d finally settled that she had to let go of him forever, that she couldn’t hold onto him anymore, and it was also the same day she’d decided to give Sebastian the chance he’d been asking for for years. “I’m sure it will be the wedding of the century.” Sara added with a forced smile. “Vince and Belle should be carefully you might just steal their thunder.”
Her baby blue eyes met his warm brown ones once more as she took in his question. A thoughtful expression crossed her face as she nodded her head. “Every day.” Sara admitted honestly. Every day she wondered what that would have been like. Watching his expression, the lack of a smile and more importantly his inability to look at her in this moment made Sara highly aware that he’d been giving this a great deal of thought. “Life didn’t exactly turn out the way I thought it would when I was 16. The last place I thought I’d be was here. I wonder every day if things could have been different. If Charlie hadn’t killed my dad, would my family still be together? Or what it would have been like for Heidi to have both her parents together raising her?” Sara found herself getting chocked up by all of this, blinking back the tears in her watery eyes as she stared up at the sky for a moment trying to regain her composure. “But that’s not how our lives turned out.” Sara finally said sadly as she looked back at him. It was hard to believe that this was how their lives were supposed to be and the uneasy feeling twisted in her stomach. The guilt set in once more because it felt like cheating just to be thinking like this when she had a Sebastian. Sebastian was good, kind, he’d been there for her the last five years when he didn’t have to be, and she had to remind herself of these things because sitting her across from one Braxton Melrose had this easily slipping from her mind.
Watching as the grilled cheese was place before her Sara looked up a look of surprise written across her features and a smile tugged at the corners of her lips. While he’d mentioned they were having her favorite she was surprised that he’d remembered what her favorite truly was. Swallowing hard she remembers the first time she’d gotten he Melrose special and while the memory is a fond one it makes her sad for everything they’ve lost. “You remembered,” Sara said softly. The truth was most people didn’t know this was Sara’s favorite, when asked she always claimed it was something more grown up like fettuccini alfredo. “Nothing yet has ever lived up to the Melrose special, it’s one of a kind.” Sara said with a smile. “And I’m sure Heidi would love that. Just make sure Sam isn’t in the facinity. They will fight like little girls over any food placed before them” A laugh escapes her lips at this as she racked her fingers through her curly blonde locks. “But seriously you don’t have to babysit you can always just come over, hang out.” She suggested as she picked up the piece of grilled cheese and taking a bite. A small mhmm sound escapes her lips. It’s good but he’s right his version is much better. “You are her dad after all. I don’t want you to miss out any more than I’ve already taken from you.” Sara said genuinely, this was her chance to right her wrongs.
“Jon’s book?” Sara nodded her head before taking another bite. Taking the moment to chewed and swallowed before she began to speak once more. “Yeah I’m not sure who hasn’t read his book. Especially given that he spent a better part of the book fawning over one Ellie Herd, who happens to be my best friend.” Sara laugh a fond smile on her lips as she thinks about the relationship Jonathan and Ella use to have and it makes her a little sad to see things going downhill for them. She had been rooting for Jonathan for a long time; it would be nice to see him get what he wanted just once. Although it appeared Ella’s past heartbreak was going to put a halt to that. “That Brenden Martin was rather flamboyant though,” Sara teased. “Couldn’t quite put my finger on who Jonathan was talking about there.” She said sarcastically with a little giggle. “Please tell me you at least gave him one good swirly for that one?” While Sara knew the boys had once a very rocky relationship but it was clear their relationship had grown into a real friendship over the years and it made Sara happy to see people she cared about finding common ground. “For the record I think he got the character all wrong.” Sara muttered before taking another moment a smile on her lips as she ate her grilled cheese and it almost feelings like their back in high school all over again. Back then she would have instantly been swept off her feet by all of this. Who was she kidding she was swept off her feet, no way of stopping it.”You know its nice, seeing you and Jonathan as friends. You guys seem to… whats the word I’m looking for. Compliment, each other well.” Sara explained.
Retracting his hand from the table, Braxton gave a somewhat stern nod, shielding the disappointment that had only moments ago radiated from his dark eyes. It was his wedding yet he felt completely detached from it. The romantic side of Braxton had wanted his wedding to be the most magical day of his life and yet here he was, thinking of it as another insignificant event in his seemingly insignificant life. It hadn’t fazed him until recently, now finding it the appropriate time to commence revaluating his life and the discerning choices he had a tendency to make. “Wedding of the century,” Braxton mumbled under his breath, repeating what Sara had said. If you go through with it. That was a thought that often crossed Braxton’s mind in recent times. There was still time to throw in the towel and walk away from Mia. It wouldn’t be for Sara, but for himself, despite Sara’s reappearance in his life triggering this contemplation. Being in a loveless marriage that was practically arranged for the media was oddly enough not the most appealing thing. The alternative, being a single dad who did not go out every weekend getting wasted, was far more preferable. “I don’t think we’ll be able to beat someone who’s running for presidency, but it’s worth a short.” Raising his glass, Braxton took the smallest of sips. The liquid managed to burn down his throat, which was counterproductive considering he’d drank it to rid of the lump that resided against his Adam’s apple. Blinking, he licked his upper lip, withholding the urge to wince at the discomfort he felt for the brief moment.
Braxton’s gaze softened as he listened to Sara, taken aback by what she was saying. Absorbing each word, he detected a small hint of sadness in her voice, a sadness he also felt consume him at times. Looking downward, his eyes focused on the white tablecloth. To anyone else, it may seem like he was completely ignoring what Sara was saying, but it felt far too difficult to look at her as she was saying these things. When it came to Sara, there was no denying that Braxton felt far too deeply. Her strained relationship with Charlie seemed to resemble the distance he too had with his twin sister. The lump lodged in the depths of Braxton’s throat only worsened as he looked up at her, looking in her eyes. He desperately wanted to reach his arm across the table and just hold her hand, like the small gesture would ease everything she’d lost. But he had to remind himself that wasn’t his place. Part of him wish he hadn’t mentioned it. Thinking about the past brought back memories that were better kept elsewhere. Who needed a constant reminder of how and when everything had gotten so screwed up? “I’m sorry about your dad,” Braxton said genuinely, harbouring a great amount of empathy toward the blonde beauty. “I’m sorry about everything.” Biting his lip, Braxton’s hand was placed over his own, pressing down as an attempt to fight the overwhelming urge to just touch her skin. “But there is a silver lining to all of it.” Braxton felt he didn’t need to say it in order for Sara to know exactly what – or more importantly, who – he was referring to. That one small five-year-old angel with the cheekiest smile made Braxton believe life was okay, better than okay. He imagined Sara felt the same, if not more.
It seemed fighting that the food being placed in front of them had broken the serious moment, allowing them both to push it aside and potentially focus on lighter topics. “Of course I did,” he replied with the tiniest of smiles, tilting his head to the side. “Some things never change.” The context beneath what Braxton was saying hardly referred to the grilled cheese, his discreet subtly referring to his emotions toward Sara and perhaps her emotions toward him. He wasn’t ridiculously unaware of her body language and the small breaths he noticed her sometimes take in between her words. Then again, he was sure he could be reading too into it. “I’ll make extra for the both of them.” There was a large grin on Braxton’s face – both happy to have the food in front of him and conversation revolving around something far lighter, though it did still sting to know that both Samuel and Jon, Braxton’s closest friends, had known about his daughter before him and had kept it from him. Thankfully Braxton had managed to let go of it, not being one to hold a grudge, especially toward people he cared about. “I’d really love that, Sara,” he said with a reassuring smile, prepared to take a bite of the grilled cheese but holding it off for a moment. “I’m sure we will get past this kind of awkward stage eventually and it’ll feel completely comfortable to just rock up and spend time with her.” Braxton treasured all the time he spent with Heidi. She truly did feel like his daughter, as well as Sara’s daughter.
“I’m fairly okay with how he wrote me in the book,” Braxton chuckled honestly. He was proud and confident with his sexuality, even if others weren’t as convinced as he was about his orientation. “Maybe sometimes I do come across as slightly – but not entirely – gay.” Braxton was quite thankful for Jon’s book, despite swearing to himself that he’d never tell him that. It seemed like a bound memoir of all the craziness that had once been their lives. Typically nostalgic, Braxton had gone as far to flick through the chapters and read over a few of the pages. “I’m kind of glad he didn’t stay entirely truthful to who I am, or at least who I was. That guy was a dick.” Scratching his neck, he took a bite of the grilled cheese, noticing any worry he’d been feeling had managed to vanish as the nice and actually ‘normal’ conversation played out between him and Sara. “It’s so weird, isn’t it though?” Braxton questioned eagerly, leaning forward as he shook his head. “Me being friends with Jonathan Parker – who would have ever thought that would happen? Seriously. If you’d told me that six years ago, I’d have punched you out. Well, not you, I’d never punch you or anything like that. I just meant it as more of a general thing. Okay, I’ll shut up now.” Grinning as he fumbled over his words, he finished off his new glass, swallowing the rest in one whole gulp and letting out a refreshing ‘ah’.
“So, I have something to ask you,” Braxton began to say as they neared closer to the end of their meal. “And I give you permission to say ‘hell no’ but I figured I’d ask.” Taking in a deep breath, Braxton relaxed himself and loosened his shoulders. His stomach felt like it was churning within him but displaying nervousness was foreign to Braxton “Because we never got a chance to dance as Prom King and Queen in high school due to events we won’t discuss,” he continued saying, still smiling a little. “I was hoping to take this opportunity and share a friendly dance together, if you were comfortable with that.” It was really just an excuse to be able to hold her in a socially acceptable manner while also creating a moment he’d stupidly managed to throw away in the most careless way. “I have only gotten better.” Winking, he licked his lip, preparing to bring on an ‘adorable’ look to persuade her into a dance. “No guilt tripping you into it… yet."
I'm ready to drink away my sorrows at Sara's birthday party.
Cause nothing says getting hammered like birthday cake and streamers.
I'll see you there, boo.
