Have had a great 2 days taking some American ladies on tour. On Monday we went to Llangorse Lake, #BronyllsCastle (pic 10), Hay-on-Wye, #HayBluff (pic 8), Capel-y-ffin, #LlanthonyPriory (pic 9) and Patrishow Church. That evening I ate with the rest of their group and gave an after dinner talk on the History of the Brecon Beacons (pic 7). I haven't led many Brecon Beacons tours since the summer holidays ended, because I have been very busy leading tours in Iceland, Italy and Germany for my other company @geoworld_travel However today my son and I climbed up Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad, rugged up as it was pretty cold (pics 1-5). On Sunday we went for a walk around Craig y Cilau (pics 6&7). Both Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad and Craig y Cilau are National Nature Reserves. 2 weeks ago I was in Germany doing a recce for a @geoworld_travel travel trip when I saw this sign. The town of Blaubeuren in the #SwabianAlb #geopark is twinned with my home county #Brecknockshire !!! Previously didn't know that. On Monday and Tuesday I took a family of 6 from London, on 2 days of tours in the National Park. We saw so much stuff! Highlights included Sgwd yr Eira and Clun Gwyne waterfalls, the Blaenavon World Heritage Site, the Big Pit, Llangorse Lake, a climb to the summit of Lord Hereford's Knob, a visit to Llanthony Priory and a picnic lunch with the ponies on Mynydd Llangynidr https://www.instagram.com/p/B1OYAjuB6xy/?igshid=675vgfdtm73w

Yesterday I took a British family who live in Scotland and United Arab Emirates on a personal tour where they stated they wanted some Geology, some History and some Folklore. I set the tour in the UNESCO @fforestfawrgeopark For the History part we visited #BreconCathedral where amongst other things we saw the stain glass windows of King Brychan and Saint Illtud, learnt about the Battle of Brychieniog, Agincourt and Dafydd Gam and the Anglo-Zulu war. We then visited the Brecon Gaer Roman Fort, followed by Twyn y Gaer Iron Age Fort this was followed by Defynnog Church with its 800AD font with Viking runes, Roman tombstone and 5,600 year old Yew Tree. For the Geology part of the tour we examined the Carboniferous stratigraphy at Henrhyd waterfall, saw tree fossils at Pontneddfechan and saw the Bwa Maen fold, the Neath Valley Disturbance Fault, Carboniferous fossils and a Silica Mine addit at Dinas Rock. We also visited the largest cave opening in Wales at Port yr Ogof. For the Folklore part of the tour we discussed the Fairy Kingdom at Lyn Llwch and Pen y Fan's other name Cadair Artur from a viewpoint Mynydd Illtud, we also discussed how Saint Illtud may have been King Arthur's cousin. At Dinas Rock we discussed how King Arthur and his Army reputedly lie sleeping inside until Britain needs them again, and at Maen Llia how the stone comes alive on mid summer's eve to drink from the stream! Additionally to the History, Geology and Folklore we visited Clun Gwyne and Clun Gwyne Isaf waterfalls for great views. It was a great day all in all! Yesterday took 3 ladies from Seattle, USA on a bespoke tour. We went to Abergavenny Castle, #thebigpit , Blaenavon Ironworks both part of the #blaenavon #worldheritagesite We then drove over Llangynidr Mountain to #llangorselake where we had our picnic lunch at the Crannog Centre. Then it was to Hay-on-Wye for an hour's free time browsing the bookshops. Led two tours to #Waterfall Country this week. The first tour was on Tuesday for a lady from Missouri USA. We went on our 'Heart of the Park and Waterfall Country' tour with an extended walk out to Sgwd yr Eira. Then on Thursday I took a local couple from Knighton, Radnorshire (who had been given the tour as a birthday gift) on our 'All Three Walk Behinds' walking tour. This tour took then behind Sgwd Henrhyd, Sgwd Gwladys and Sgwd yr Eira as well as visiting six other waterfalls. On Thursday we completed our first "Way out West" tour for a while. As well as reaching #carregcennen #castle in the far west of the #breconbeaconsnationalpark and #fforestfawrgeopark (having started at Abergavenny at the far east), this tour was also an epic historical tour. Starting with the Neolithic we saw a standing stone at Cwrt y Gollen and a burial chamber at Crickhowell. Moving on to the Iron Age we saw several Iron Aged Forts including views of Crug Hywl at Crickhowell, Twyn y Gaer on Mynydd Illtud and Garn Coch near Bethlehem (the National Park's largest). Then we moved on to the #romans, with the site of the Roman Fort in Abergavenny, views towards Y Gaer camp near Cwmdu, we visited the Brecon Gaer Roman Fort, saw a Roman marker stone in Defynnog church, and had views of Y Pigwn Roman camp near the Usk Reservoir. Fort the Dark Ages we saw the stained glass windows of King Brychan and Saint Illtud in #breconcathedral For the medieval period we briefly visited Abergavenny Castle and Llandovery Castle, with a longer visit to Carreg Cennen Castle and drive by views of Crickhowell, Tretower, Brecon and Trecastle castles. For the more recent past we saw the Hafod military chapel with the Colours from the Zulu War and we saw the Brecon-Monmouthsire Canal. Great day with 2 American guests from Michigan. We did a modified version of our "Heart of the Park and Waterfall Country" tour with an extended waterfall walk to Sgwd yr Eira, Sgwd y Pannwr, and Sgwd Isaf Clun Gwyn and Sgwd Clun Gwyn. Before the waterfall walk, we also climbed Tyn y Gaer iron aged fort for views of the Beacons, went to Maen Llia standing stone and Porth yr Ogof cave. After the walk we went to Allt Rhongwr Nature Reserve for views over the upper Swansea Valley and Defynnog to see the 5,600 year old yew tree. On our way back to Abergavenny we had a photo stop of Tretower Court and Castle and of the lime kilns by the canal in Gilwern.
