my first deltarune chapter 5 fanart. it's good to be home./silly
doomed
so girlsei nation how are we feeling about chapter 5
I cannot believe Flowery rage baited Ralsei so hard he made him say
“I could burn you alive in an instant”
Ralsei said that, RALSEI.
Little Mr.”Oh yeah King I’ll heal you” really got to a point where he said “You’d be dead where you stand”
And then bro just responds Lamo you won’t, I can spare you, you wish you were me, and you wish you were a girl, anyways imma go fuck Kris’s dad
Truly the most character of all time
Alright, Chapter 5 is barely 24 hours old, so I apologize if these takes turn out to be lukewarm or obvious in hindsight, but I need to throw this out there or I'm gonna explode.
I wanna talk about Flowery.
Everyone fucking hates Flowery. Why?
Everyone is comparing his reveal to Tenna's, but those circumstances could not be more different in terms of narrative. Tenna is, from the jump, supposed to be light-hearted and fun. He is the personification of the Fun Gang letting loose and having a good time. This is what makes his eventual reveal that he's working with the Knight into an actual betrayal. If we didn't trust Tenna, that moment wouldn't work.
With Flowery, the vibes are rancid from the moment he's revealed. He's charming and charismatic, but something is off. Not to mention that Ralsei absolutely despises him.
So, why make Flowery unlikable? What's the point?
Well, the point is that Flowery is the exact opposite of Tenna.
With Tenna, we like him, but he's wrong.
With Flowery, we hate him, but he's right.
Everything that Flowery does to Asgore is an exact mirror to what Ralsei did with Kris and Susie at the beginning of the game. In fact, the entire chapter is a complete mirror of Chapter 1's dark world!
Flowery gives Asgore a home, gives him friends, tells him that he's special. And yet, we spend the entire chapter trying to get Asgore out of that situation, with the understanding that it's dangerous.
But what about it is dangerous? The denial of reality? Because Susie is now living in a dark world. The exact thing that Asgore gave an entire heartwarming speech about not doing.
When Flowery tells us that we could close Castle Town instead of his dark world and we would be no closer to the Roaring, we hate him because he's right. When he says that all the flowers want is to live and a chance to make Asgore as happy as he's made them, we hate him because he's right.
And, at the end of the chapter, he tries to defeat us with the power of friendship. The other flowers never turn on him. He uses a mercy attack against us, and Kris responds by hitting him with a sword.
Y'all, were supposed to hate Flowery. And we're supposed to feel uncomfortable about why we do.
this was originally a reply but it got super long so i apologize for the reblog but i wanted to address specifically the point about the dark fountain.
i may be misremembering, but isn't castle town's dark fountain special? the reason everyone can live there without turning to stone is because it's like pure or something. so while sealing it and leaving the garden's fountain wouldn't make a difference in regards to the roaring, it's a bit like shutting down a hospital to save an urgent care.
like you said but in more words, the real question being asked is "don't the flowers have as much right to their existence?" which is made more impactful by the reveal that they knew were on a timeline whether or not the fountain was sealed. the statement also makes it very obvious how easy it would be to break the prophecy. ralsei could break it by coming out. we could break it by sealing the castle town fountain. the fun gang as a whole could break it by just not sealing any fountains at all.
but they don't do it because the prophecy is safe. at first it was just ralsei, but after chapter 4, everyone knows about it. there's a terrible ending waiting if they follow it, but rather than abandon it immediately, they figure they'll deal with it when it happens. because who knows what could happen if it's broken. something better? something worse? flowery is willing to take that leap, but the fun gang isn't. even susie, after seeing the end of the prophecy, still abides by it. hell, she starts letting you equip her with ribbons in chapter 5, something ralsei said she was "supposed to be be able" to do in chapter 4.
i'd also like to say that the risk to asgore wasn't just being in the dark world. it was his vulnerability to the roaring knight. in chapter 4 susie accuses them of being unable to fight them in the light world, and based on their appearances, that seems to be true. so while the dark world itself wasn't a risk, it exposed him.
i also don't think the dark world is a representation of denial. if it was, it would fly in the face of ralsei's self-determination arc. asgore's speech in my eyes was more about forgiving himself for his vague failure and deciding not to let his guilt control him anymore.
i also think your interpretation of final clash is a bit weird. you can make it through that fight without attacking until you get to the platformer section, during which you're both attacking each other. you also can't act in those sections so it's a bit weird i think to judge it by the same standards as a normal battle. kris also got to that point with the help of their friends. you (circumstantially), susie, and ralsei all got them to that point just as much as the other flowers gave flowery power. he catches kris' sword but framing it as mercy attack kind of ignores the previous 30 seconds of him lunging at you.
now not to start a fourth paragraph with "also," but i think it bears mentioning the sort of characters the player has in mind when meeting flowery. tenna, spamton, and flowey. you already distrust him because of his similarity to flowey, which makes his cheer seem fake. we don't think about the why he does what he does, because we're already put off by him. his attitude and actions just seem slimy. him being a twink anime boy with a flamboyant voice and spoken dialog doesn't help either. we see him and think he's a creep. even if we want to wait and see if that's what he's really like, it's already in our heads.
we were primed by flowey, introduced to what at a glance seems like a similar character in spamton, and then got betrayed by tenna. literally everything lines up to make you uncomfortable with him even if you want to approach him with an open mind. not having his motives at the start and does not help him. him bonding with susie literally happens off screen.
anyway that's my ramble that was too long to be a reply. sorry about that.
oh get a roooom
My biggest incentive to be kind is that I like it when people are nice to me. My biggest incentive to be mean is that the flames of hatred burn in my chest.

i love "coyote time" as a phrase. I wish it was time for coyotoes all of the time.
COYOTE TIME ALL OF THE TIME!!!
Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. Thousands of Indians are dying every day from the heat, it's 45+ degrees in multiple areas, the government couldn't give two fucks, we're getting severe warnings and red alerts, and not a soul outside of South Asia is speaking about it because why would you ever care about brown people
please keep talking about how Becky from Maryland doesn't like the rising gas prices. It's clearly the more pressing issue.
