I know I will never get this but I want a steam version of Khux comprising of episodes, I pay some money up front to download but all medals and equipment can be upgraded solely by in-game grinding. And any extra money I give them is for numerous dlc episodes that A. give me extra stuff B. cover all the limited time stories the gatcha game had. The social element that everyone remembers fondly is retained.
It's really weird to me how often I hear the kh menu clinking sound in random youtube videos from channels that have nothing to do with Kingdom Hearts (especially Pokemon) It's a satisfying aesthetically pleasing sound I get that But it's not a meme like the pokemon Driftveil song is Kingdom Hearts is slightly more niche than something like pokemon or modern persona and I would argue it's more divisive than those two in some ways and imagine if you were watching a video about Kingdom Hearts and then the Sonic ring jing sound went off

Sure Nomura make the outspoken and righteous girl with abandonment issues who always got left alone by everyone she cares about for one reason or another and therefor had to find strength in herself, end up entirely alone without her memories and without being able to find strength in herself because she doesnt know who "herself" even is while being simultaneously completely stripped of every piece her autonomy which screwed her perception of self up for all eternity to the point she isnt even sure if she can actually be called a human. Make her find new friends that she loses once again aswell while you are at it!

Make him abuse a sweet girl that would absolutely remind him of his sister had he not lost his memories while you are at it!
Sure Nomura make the like 12 year old who was basically adopted by all these guys and who was used as a vessel for darkness to kill some innocent girl and who was ready to try and sacrifice himself for them during the battle with the true darkness by absorbing said darkness inside of himself so it has a form they can destroy, end up being seperated from all of them and in the clutches of some fucked up old man who wanted to use him to achive his master plan. Give him a new found family that he ends up losing aswell while you're at it and throw so much more shit im not even gonna get into because he has turned into the narratives punching bag! I've seen people confused on how Brain could be in Scala after Luxu bodyjacked him...
... As if Brain wasn't bodyjacked right next to a machine that'll give a disembodied heart a new body on the other side if you put a disembodied heart through it.
So Luxu could bodyjack Brain but then send his heart through the Lifeboat to make sure he'll be where he needs to go, then cause problems for him centuries later by taking the long way to that era.
Makes sense.
But also it's not like Terra stopped existing after Xehanort body jacked him? And Brain would have more knowledge about random keyblade shenanigans and how to counter them I would think? Or at the very least is smarter than Terra. (His name is Brain)
Also we really need to use the trope of "one person takes the long route and the other takes the shortcut but it's time" more often. It can be a really fun trope. My younger brother always gushes about the one Generator Rex episode where the villain had to do that.

The arguments I've seen mostly boil down to 1. KHUX never showing what happened in that fight between Luxu and Darkness, leaving that one unaccounted for, 2. Luxu calling out Darkness for bodyhopping, 3. Darkness being the only one who could reasonably fake being Luxu knowledge wise, 4. Darkness also being smug and confident, 5. Darknesses with personalities like Vanitas existing and 6. Xigbar's bit about Ventus' angry look being better explained by him being a Darkness who shares hive-mind memories of possessing and fighting Ventus in KHUX than by Luxu watching Ventus from afar or their one interaction in BBS.
Other than that it's mostly your standard fare of "but Luxu and Xigbar have differences in personality", which like you said keeps getting treated as an impossible development as if we don't see MUCH more extreme cases of personality shift that no one's ever complained about, like young/old Eraqus, Lauriam/Marluxia and Elrena/Larxene. Saying he's a Darkness also leaves the issue of what happened to "actual" Luxu, of having to explain why he's seemingly more morally complex than e.g. Vanitas who explicitly can't go against his nature as an embodiment of negativity, and the question of how that adds anything more interesting to the narrative than him just being Luxu does.
Anyways, I've seen like four? five? posts about it on multiple platforms so I thought I'd ask, but I hope you're having fun talking about it, too, and that it doesn't feel like just rehashed discourse.!
yeeeeeeep thats what i figured. the Brain thing i have seen and also don't understand.... you already said all the most important points: these Xigbar Isn't Luxu theories raise more questions than they answer, those "answered" questions didn't really need answering in the first place, and the theories aren't more interesting than Xigbar just being Luxu.
frankly i think a lot of this is people speculating wildly and then getting attached to a headcanon/theory, or trying to Guess the Twist Before It Happens for internet points or what have you. it doesn't have anything to do with like...the themes, or the characters, or the things the game says, or even the games themselves, really.
i could come up with specific arguments against everything, back it all up with in-depth analysis of the games, and from the kinds of arguments i see for other poorly-founded theories someone can still go "but if you ignore how stories work and imagine scenes that dont exist and misinterpret tons of cherry-picked dialogue, then my theory is the ONLY possible explanation!!" at which point it's just like. yeah buddy. sure. if you do all those things then it really is the only possible explanation. have fun with your internet points

Okay so you know how Kingdom Hearts acronyms like to reference computer and internet terms right? CoM as in dot com, BBS as in bulletin board system, UX as in user experience, etc.
Well I was thinking about Land of Departure. And how it acronyms to LoD. Which, in video game terms, tends to mean "level of detail", referring to how the amount of detail on a 3D model changes depending on how far away the player/camera is from it. The further away you are from something, the less amount of detail and polygons that are rendered, because large amounts of detail are no longer necessary at that distance to create a convincing impression of an object, and it would be a waste of resources otherwise.
In relation to the Land of Departure, the first thing that comes to mind is how LoD is positioned as this isolated world between light and dark, a tiny castle on a lonely expanse of high-up mountains seemingly cut off from most things with only four people living there. A simple, minimal existence.
The second, more compelling thing that comes to mind is how LoD might very well be the last remnant of Scala, a small piece of that once large and sprawling world that has now lost much of the scope and detail it once had. Scala's history is one of a diminishing entity. A world slowly eroding like a coastline. Information and eras lost to time. Memories fuzzy around the edges. You don't need an entire society, an entire city, filled with detail and complexity if there are no longer people there to witness or make use of any of it.
What isn't necessary anymore has been removed for optimization.

one of the funniest bits of me having been in the kh fandom for so long is that i remember having to fight for my life arguing that xigbar was not an idiotic character and was actually quite intelligent and there were a ton of hints in the series about him actually being a fairly important character to the narrative and people were like. Nah man you're overthinking it. which feels so funny now.

We had a high school Au where somehow he got to make the valedictory speech (no one knows how since he never shows up to class) and spends the entire time throwing enough shade at everybody to make Vanitas blush. Because of course Xigbar has dirt on the entire school. IT'S XIGBAR.
It is wild though that of all the things that could have made me question the media literacy of the kh fandom. It was FUCKING Xigbar. He would be proud.
