but hear me out. robby takes in baby jane doe (yes, I am aware his mental health is bad and this is a bad idea but let me live in fantasy land) and he brings her to jack's and they are fostering her together and eventually they are like we should keep her and I dunno how naming kids who have no name and no birth certificate works but I propose:
It starts as like a joke. Robby jokes about how like she's a baby jane doe. A doe is a female deer. Yes, I know the doe in john/jane doe jas nothing to do with deer but we're in MY house right now. He calls her baby fawn. A baby deer. And the name sticks. Fawn Abbot-Robinavitch.
In the fight against AI, my highschool students cannot tell me how to properly use an em dash or semi color. However, I have one student who can...she looked me dead in the eye and told me it's because of fanfiction.
Jayce Talis is SOOOOO Step On My by the Cardigans coded and it makes me so insane
I'm like So jazzed to have someone send me an ask about Jayce and Music because I make everything about Jayce Talis and listening to music. YOU are SO right though. He gives himself to everyone (Viktor) so wholeheartedly and loves so much and would let people push him around a little if that meant he could have their love
is it too insane to write a second chance jayvik fic where they get back together after differences on project and one of the background underlying themes is that ai is evil and sucks
I don’t mind jayvik or melvik or jaymel or skyvik or caitvi or gertvi, but I do mind when the fandom starts getting to Voltron levels icky about-
Doesn’t matter if you like them or not it’s just kinda getting very reminiscent of the Voltron fandom years ago and atp hearing about the discourse is tiring lmao - it’s not 2018 it’s 2025 calm down-
I was just talking to a friend the other day about how this is the VLD fandom all over again and it's getting insane. Discourse is gonna happen everywhere but this cycle of hate and weirdness IS what ruined Voltron's fandom (besides how horrible the ending of that show was) and we need to really, as a fandom, check ourselves before we destroy our fandom space.
you're telling me that Harry Lloyd after not talking about arcane in awhile, when asked about jayce and viktor's partnership said with his whole chest essentially that they are soulmates and I quote, "it's soul partners, and it's beyond time and space" and "The connection is bigger than, I think, the connection between any other characters in the show, or in the world"
The video is great it's all over Twitter and I'm sitting here like ??? Riot is gonna take this man out back. Glad to know he's one of us.
I just finished Ambessa: Chosen of the Wolf and I feel like I have a fresh new love of Mel Medarda. I feel like I had a weird dislike of her because of how manipulative she was and everything but this book reveals so much of what her life was like before and everything makes so much more sense now.
Mel became the way she was because of the pressure of her family, because of her mother's desperation to "protect her" and because of her need to prove herself.
Spoilers under the cut...?
Tldr: I'm so sorry Mel i was so mean to you wtf ur just a baby and I love you
Arcane obviously tells us that Mel was exiled to Piltover by Ambessa but it doesn't really tell us that Mel is fifteen years old, and devastated because all she did was try to help her mother with her claim to the medarda name by gaining her important allies. She used her political wiles to help and all she got was an exile from her home, from her family, from everything she knew and all the memories of the people who she loved and loved her.
I have a post on my blog about how manipulative Mel is and it makes sense now. She wanted to prove herself, for her mother to let her come home.
We find out in the book that Mel is a product of an affair her mother had with a Mage named Rudo who genuinely loved her mother. Mel never got to know this or know him, but the gold we see her covered in pre-magic awakening is tattoos to dampen hr magic given to her by her father who she doesn't know is her father to protect her from the black rose. Ambessa KNEW Mel would inherit Rudo's Magic SHE KNEW that.
Ultimately, Mel is sent away to protect her. She has her close friend/assistant Elora and her belongings and that's it but she believes that her mother has sent her away because she wasn't "fit to be a medarda" When Mel simply wanted to help. She was fifteen years old. The father who raised her, her mother's husband Azizi is killed in a carriage accident and Mel is still fighting to prove herself to her mother while grieving not only her father but the fact that she knows she isn't going to be her mother's heir.
Mel returning to Noxus at the end of S2 is beautiful in a way, because she gets to go home. But painful also because Piltover became her home. Piltover became everything. When she arrives to piltover, she us leaving everything she loves behind but when she leaves piltover she is also leaving everything she loves behind, including her grief and memories of people she cared about who lost their loves.
Side note: Mel did manipulate Jayce. She did but like I get her motivations a little more now
Twaróg (Polish Farmer's Cheese) and Pierogi Ruskie (Polish Potato and Cheese Pierogi)
From We Can Go Dancing, We Can Go Walking (As Long As We're Together) by @sleepdeprivedamongstothers and @brightestplanets for the @fluffbruary prompt Feb 27: Kitchen
This is my second Jayvik fanfic recipe and I had a great time reading the fic and making pierogi! This story is part 2 of the series Be Still My Foolish Heart, Don't Ruin This On Me and is a college/uni AU, where Viktor is Polish and Jayce is Hispanic. It's set in an early stage of their friendship and their interactions are really sweet and endearingly awkward like most early relationships are. Viktor misses homemade food and is particularly offended by cheddar pierogi, which I believe is not authentic. But since he cannot easily make a dough and doesn't own a KitchenAid mixer, he hasn't been able to make pierogi. Jayce, in his enthusiasm to be of help to Viktor, says he has a KitchenAid mixer (but actually he doesn't and has to get it from his mom 😆) and then together they make pierogi in Viktor's little kitchen.
I feel like cooking together for the first time, especially making something that reminds you of home, and a partner from a different culture helping you make it, is such a defining moment of a relationship. As a foreign student myself, sometimes I didn't go home for years. I crave flavors that only seem to exist in my memory and although I can create most of them with the right ingredients, some are just impossible to replicate. I get Viktor's frustration at the cheddar pierogi too! While I completely encourage and support the adaptation and the accessibility of recipes according to personal taste, skill level, and resources available, one part of me does cry if a key ingredient is replaced, as if there are no generations of stories behind why and how something is used.
That's why anytime I learn to cook something new, I feel nervous but also excited. Besides Borscht, I have never made or had any eastern or central European food. Of course, I have heard about pierogi and have made various other types of dumplings from around the world. But for today's recipe I wanted to keep everything as authentic as possible, especially as I knew one of the authors was Polish! This meant not only making pierogi, but making Twaróg first! I looked up many recipes online and then followed a Polish lady for both the recipes. Apologies if I didn't get something right 🙏.
Twaróg is a type of farmer's cheese and the process is very similar to chhana or chhena, a kind of Indian cheese. But there is an additional step of slow fermentation in Twaróg, so it takes longer to make it. And the end result was SO good! I honestly just wanted to break bits of Twaróg and keep eating it! Once I had the cheese ready, the rest of it was easy! I made around 30 and froze nearly two dozen pierogi to have later. Thanks to the authors, I now read a lovely fic and I, an Indian woman, learned to make a Polish dish! I hope I was able to do justice to the recipes and that Viktor approves of my efforts at least!
Here are a few excerpts from the fic:
-------
Jayce looked curiously at his fork. “What’s…wrong with the food?”
Viktor sighed at it. "...These…are not like any pierogi I’ve ever made. The dough is off and they have cheddar in them, which, I suppose is fine but it…” he waved the fork around, at a loss for words.
“Well, why don’t you make some? You could teach me, maybe."
-------
Viktor was incredibly nervous.
Coming in, Jayce would be in the little entry room...Two steps forward, he would be in the kitchen, if one could call it that...
The potatoes were already boiling when Jayce came in, about to be ready, actually.
It took a long time, all things considered, but Jayce was diligent. He listened as Viktor explained, as he told Jayce about why he preferred the twaróg and how to properly season everything. He mashed the potatoes to his specifications.
The dough came out pliant and beautiful and Viktor wanted to cry. [Funny, I don't have a KitchenAid, so just used my hands to make the dough as usual😆!]
“Is there some sort of technique to it?” Jayce had asked, holding a circle of dough in the palm of his hand.
Viktor smiled, “You sort of just…” he took a spoon and scooped up a portion of the filling, putting it in the centre of the dough. Then, he put one hand behind Jayce’s, stabilizing it, and the other pinched the dough together, keeping the filling in. “I suppose you could go back over it again, make it more clean, if you want, but I think this is good enough. They shouldn’t fall apart now.”
When all was said and done, Viktor had decided to boil and pan fry some immediately.
“Get the sour cream from the fridge, will you?” Viktor asked, doling out the pierogi onto two plates. He poured the rest of the butter from the pan over them and stood back to look at them...
"You sort of, ah, dip it?” He asked, quickly demonstrating to Jayce.
-----------
Jayce copied him and Viktor found himself unable to move until he visually saw Jayce take his first bite. The man's eyes closed, and a small noise escaped him.
