The toddler sat among a few toys, clearly not caring for any but the foam sword he was waving around to bop anything within reach.

“Where are you…” She blinked, watching him before laughing, realizing where he was going. Iris followed him with her phone,recording it to show everyone. “Ahh. Heading for the apples. Alright alright. Mama will get you some.” She followed along behind him. “Papa is gonna be so proud!”

Clarus giggled and plopped down when his mother came to feed him, clutching his little feet in his hands and rocking where he sat. He watched her in childlike wonder, glad she seemed to so pleased with his trick.

Iris laughed quietly, returning each kiss with one of her own. She was so immensely proud of her son. He was starting to walk and he had chosen to show her of all people his new ability. She let him go when he moved, scooting back a little bit from him. “Can you do it for mama again? ”

Clarus gave a few babbles with the word Mama in there more than once before turning away from her and slowly toddling away, this time heading for the kitchen in hopes of getting some apple slices as a treat. He nearly fell once, bum hitting the floor before pulling himself up and continuing on. Now and then he looked over his shoulder to see if she was watching or following and giggled.

A look of pure determination was on his face as he let go of the table and toddle towards his mother’s arms, giggling a bit as he stopped to balance himself and noticing her excitement. Once steady he gave a clap and started forward again, making it to her arms before letting himself stumble and fall against her with happy coos.

She kept her arms out for him, not wanting him to fall and hurt himself. Iris couldn’t believe that he was actually trying to walk. She nearly jumped forward when he stopped bur held back. “Thats my boy. Come on.” Iris squealed happily when he made his way to him, arms holding him close. “You did it! I’m so proud!”

Clarus laid against her giggling and moving his hands to hold onto her. She seemed so happy now, so he plan worked and he leaned up to give Mommy lots of small baby kisses on the cheek as he clung. After a moment he pulled himself back to his feet to stand in her arms reach and clap more.

He finished wrapping the bandages and looked at at Cosette with a small smile, “Don’t worry, it’ll be our secret and he’s gonna be fine. A little sore and weak for a while, but he has us to take care of him,” He told his cousin and gave her a thumbs up.

“Now let’s make him a little bed, he won’t be as easy for anyone to notice in here as in your room,” Since he cleaned his own room and he had a feeling Ingis might still clean Cosette’s.

     She returned his smile, petting the sabertusk’s head gently. ‘ Yeah, ‘ she gave a nod of her head. ‘ He does have us. ‘

     Cosette thought about it for a moment. The pup probably was better off here than it was in her home. She knew one of her parents came into her room when she left her stuffed moogle unattended in the house when she was at school, bad plan if she were to keep a sabertusk there. Especially if it decided to be a little… Mischievous. ‘ Okay, then we’ll keep him here. I’ll come and visit him often though. ‘

He gave a nod and booped his cousin’s nose gently before moving to make a next of some clothes he never wore and extra blankets. It wouldn’t be too hard to hide the creature, he usually had music on so any noises would be drown out, “Of course, come and visit him all you want. When he gets better we can find him a pack to let him go.”

He frowned but nodded. The creature was a baby no matter what kind it was, and it clearly was in need of help, “C’mon,” He led her to his room, and then dashed to get some bandages and salve before returning, “Don’t worry little guy.”

Luckily first aid came with the sword training so it was easy enough to tend the small animal, “Might have been dangerous taking him, Cos.”

     She unwrapped the baby creature from the blanket, holding it gently while the bandages were replaced. Her eyes moved to Clarus as she spoke. Yes, she knew there was a lot more complications to having brought this sabertusk in. But she couldn’t just leave it.

     ‘ I– I know. I didn’t want to just leave it there though. Far away from its mommy and daddy, hurt and scared. ‘ She looked at the baby creature again. ‘ I couldn’t just let it get hurt anymore than it is now. ‘

     Cosette shifted her arms slightly, revealing a baby animal wrapped up in a blanket. Now, one would assume it was a baby Chocobo. However, upon closer inspection, it is revealed to be a baby sabertusk. The thing was shaking in her arms, shoddily done bandages around it’s leg and body to cover the injuries it had.

     ‘ I found this far away from its family– It’s hurt really bad. Help me help it, please… And don’t tell anyone! Papa and Daddy would freak out if they knew I found it and brought it back. ‘

Cosette runs up to her cousin, holding something in her arms with a worried look on her face. ' Clarus! I need your help! '

“I don’t,” he grumbled and looked down at the floor. Brow forked together and he avoided his mother’s gaze.

“Oh I’m livid. Not at you. At the boys that don’t have any sense.” She answered, patting down his hair. “You should spend more time around your uncles. Might learn a thing or two.”

He grinned more, trying to get her mind off of her anger, “Lets see, I can learn to cook cup noodles with no vegetables and take selfies of it? Is that about right?” he thought that included all four nicely, “Or how about nap, sing the chocobo song, and tell terrible puns?”

She kissed his head. “When did you get so wise?” She wondered outloud. “The girls will have problems too when they get a bit older. I did. Gladdy followed me one day and scared the bullies off.”

“Anyone who messes with my baby sisters will get more than a scare,” He grinned and looked at her with a twinkle of mischief in his eyes, “Wise? Nah, I probably just got Uncle Iggy in my head,” He tapped his temple, “Glad you aren’t mad about all this...”

“I’ll talk with your Uncle Iggy and see if he would be willing to move the time for you. ” She did feel that it was partially her part just for who she was. “And you won’t have to pick apples. Unless you want to go pick me some and I’ll make them into a pie.”

He gave a frown at that, “You know you don’t have to feel guilty or anything, right? We are born who we are. One day those idiots will be regretting trying to mess with our family. Plus, I rather it be me than you or Lily or Jasmine.”

Iris’ eyes softened at his admission. So that was the whole reason. She sighed quietly and rubbed the back of her head. “You should have told me,Clarus. I’m not that unreasonable. ” She looked at him quietly for a moment. “You don’t have to go back but you do have to have some form of education. I’ll talk to your father and see what he suggests and maybe your uncles too. I’m so sorry.” She never thought that her own family name would have brought such a huge issue on her son. Would it have the same impact on the girls?

“S’not your fault, Mom, boys are idiots and they don’t seem to get no matter how many of them try and start shit I’m gonna finish it,” It did feel a bit better to get it off his chest, “Rather not have to pick apples or have class at five am with Uncle Iggy though...”
