I was born under a steeple with a mission on my mind
If I wanted to find heaven, I had to walk the narrow line
Between holy and holiest Oh I was determined that I would be some kind of star of David
And that I'd lead the wisest men to the savior And the children and the senior citizens and the foreigners
But now if the only people I ever get to save
Are the ones that broke my heart and chose my name
I would be satisfied
California has come to New York. My hands are cold, my heart is full.
I remember thinking, "it will never get better".
and then it did.
it will get better again.
Like moths to flame I come Too close and all my oaths are burned As stars begin to run All my accusers take their turn
This is Addie, and she is one powerful young woman; she is my first niece, and one of my favorite people. This first photo was taken a few days ago toward the end of a very exciting slumber party we had at my house, after we had done some very fancy and flattering make overs. My brand new sister in-law Sandra and my very good friend Shannon also got make-overs for very low cheap. I think the make-overs may have even been free, actually, if you can believe it. While I lived in California, Addie was incredibly faithful to e-mail me constantly; sending me poems she was writing, giving me updates on her rabbits health and well-being, letting me know the names and ages of the friends she was making. Being so far away from all my family for so long these precious e-mails came to mean the world to me, and also made me laugh so hard I cried almost every time. She is growing up to be a lovely, honest, and very hilarious young woman and I'm so pleased to call her my family and my friend. Here is a poem she wrote about Thanksgiving three years ago, it's one of my favorites:
The Thanksgiving Feeling
Smell the turkey in the oven.
Smell the laughter.
We give thanks for the pilgrims.
And for want we have.
I have a loving home.
I have my very own room.
I have a mom and dad to be thankful for.
I have a brother and two sisters to be thankful for.
So, I'm thankful for what I have.
"You're a door-without-a-key, a field-without-a-fence; You made a holy fool of me, and I've thanked you ever since. And if she comes circling back, we'll end where we'd begun; Like two pennies on the train track; the train crushed into one. But if I'm a crown without a king, if I'm a broken, open seed, If I come without a thing, then I come with all I need. No boat out in the blue, no place to rest your head; The trap I set for you seems to have caught my leg instead."

Unbeknownst to us, Aaron came prepared and was wearing a t-shirt under that cumbersome flannel, and covered up his tousled mane with a classic beanie. Where he uncovered that winter cap I'll never know. Aaron, you're an inspiration to us all.
Aaron starts to reconsider his choice of flannel, and becomes self conscious about his hair...
