Leaving Lima with Santana was the best thing Brittany ever did. The city didnât always make complete sense to Brittany, but as things usually did, it ended up working in her favour. As the self-proclaimed âmost talented dancer in all of New York, and probably Old York too,â Brittanyâs career took off. Doing what she loved with the encouragement of her wife was a dream come true, and Brittany made the most of every second, honing her craft and proving that she really was a genius in her own sense of the word. Occasionally her work involved her in tours with musicians, including but not limited to the living legend Mercedes Jones, and travelling was always thrilling. Of course, she missed her wife dearly on those excursions, but they both managed to balance their careers with their relationship.
Just as their lives began to seem almost too perfect, Santanaâs grandmother passed away, leaving a hole in the entire Lopez family, Brittany included. She hadnât known her for nearly as long as Santana, but she was devastated all the same. It crushed Brittany to see Santana so heartbroken by her passing, but she understood that it was her time to step up and be strong for her, especially as the rest of her family life began spiralling into disarray. Brittany was prepared to put her life on hold to return to Lima with Santana without a shadow of a doubt in her mind. She loved to perform, but she loved Santana more, and so the choice was easy.
Trying to re-establish herself in Lima wasnât easy at first. Brittany had learned to live in double-time like the city sheâd grown to love, and in comparison, walking through her hometown felt like wading in molasses. Still, she had Santana, and she wasnât about to let the sombre atmosphere get her down. Searching for inspiration to get her life back on track, Brittany began venturing to the dance studio sheâd taken lessons in as a child. The place was a little worse for wear, and her old teacher couldnât quite move like she used to. When Brittany began listing the ways she could do a better job, it seemed like she struck a chord - because the old lady offered her one on the spot. Brittany misses her old career, but home is where the heart is, and Santana stole it long ago. Even when she feels out of place in Lima there are places that are hers, and she makes the best of each day as it comes.
