One year anniversary present for Lucas Smythe
Two big boxes come wrapped in brown paper with white anchors, tied with twine and decorated with faux starfish. The gift boxes and card are left on the dresser in their room for Luc to find when he wakes up.
Inside the card:
Luc,
So, you may have noticed that there's a little bit of a theme going on with the wrapping paper and the cards. If you haven't (although I'm sure you have), it's kind of nautical, and for a few reasons. One, I have enjoyed travelling with you and seeing the world through your eyes. The things that seem 'usual' for you never cease to amaze me. The things you've shown me, material and otherwise, have been breathtaking. Paris, your art, your music... everything. Two, because, as the card says, in high tide or low tide, I'll always be there. And you've always been there for me. We've been able to stand strong no matter what life has thrown at us, and I think that's part of what makes you and I a great team. Besides, if one of us lost a leg in a pirating accident, we would kick ass at three-legged races. And three, last - but certainly not least - the theme is nautical and mostly anchor-related because you have been (and continue to be) my anchor. You have been the only constant thing in times when my whole world was turning crashing down, and I'm eternally grateful for that. It's kind of scary to think about, just how incredibly important you are to me... but it's a good kind of scary. The kind that tells me exactly where the safe places are in times of trouble, or lets me know that even if I fall, I'm going to land safely. You're steady even when you feel off balance, and you're the brightest and most beautiful person I've ever met. I'm so proud to be able to call you mine.
Here's to many more years to come.
Love,
Kurt
PS: I've been compiling your gifts for weeks now. Some of it is novelty stuff, but it made me think of you.
The gifts:
The first box contains three gifts. A black bag with many compartments holds a book called 'I Could Pee On This (and Other Poems by Cats)', and a ticket stub diary for any and all of the stubs Luc keeps from shows, films, etc. The bag itself is intended for any of Luc's art supplies or works in progress that he feels are especially in danger of Sondheim ruining.
The second box contains gifts that are a little more sentimental. The first, a photo album filled with pictures of and letters between Luc's Grandmère and Grandpère. The second, a bracelet that says, 'Chaque pas que je faisais maintenant dans la vie m'ouvrait une nouvelle perspective'.
