Extremely Loud

This book was more interesting than i thought it was going to be. It was like looking at different paths to life through the people Oskar has visited. New York is a cultural melting pot and it shows in this book. All the individual stories the people he visited added so much to the book. The one thing I disliked about the book the ending, so much build up to discover the key had nothing to do with Oskar’s father. The Movie stayed relatively parallel to the story line but there were some differences and ithink it took away from the story a bit. I imagine his fathers name on the new memorial at ground zero, as it is such a fantastic memorial in their memory.

The Goon Squad

A Visit From the Goon Squad. What do i say about this abomination of a book? Not a good read in my opinion and not any topics that interest me. It was a very confusing cluster of a book and names, places and events were routinely mixed up and crossed. A diagram online was the only thing that really helped me get a grasp on all the connections. From working in groups on this book it seems that I am not the only person who had trouble with this read. Sparknotes and plot diagrams have been everyone’s friend with this one!

A theme I gathered from the The Road was perseverance. In a time in which it was questionable whether or not it was even worth-while to stay alive, the man endured starvation, severely cold weather, and the loss of his wife just in order to keep hope alive for his son and himself. I think that message is one that a lot of people should hear and take heart to. Especially in our times now, people often give up just as things are getting hard. The man and his son persevered through and survived a lot more than most people in the world did. They were the good guys: they didn’t give up.

haha love the picture and I totally agree. They really are the heroes in that they didnt break down and start eating people whether dead or alive. They carried the will of human nature and persevered through the hardships that were thrown their way. Even when they were on the brink of death from starvation they didnt lose their humanity. It shows that there is always hope no matter how hard the situation seems. So this book definitely has a good message. And for that it is even more fantastical! ^_^

I am pretty far behind on the road and plan to get caught up by tomorrow, but this blog is due today. So with that being said the only thing I feel i can ramble on is the fact that the mother commits suicide. I don’t care what given circumstance stands, that is not okay.

Every child deserves both parents, whether or not their situations are difficult.

Having been mentioned in class, “maybe she was trying to take herself out of the equation to make the father and sons life a little easier; one less to worry about, one less to feed.” But personally, i feel that that is more heartbreaking and unfair than the love she could have provided.

I couldn't really get into A Visit From the Good squad. I liked it and  i liked a few of the characters and how their relationships intertwined but as a whole i don't know i pretty much had to force myself to read it. I like sci-fi much better. A day in the life or nonfiction books are completely uninteresting to me. But i am highly anticipating The Road!

I really am an awful writer. Like really really awful. So when asked to come up with an original story for this assignment I literally say at my computer and stared into the uncreative oblivion of my mind. So there's this one story though that I have read and it's called "a touch of poision" it's a rewrite on the general story of a captive princess except for in this story the princess's father is holding her captive and is evil and mean to her and has been feeding her good that made her poisonous so everything she touches dies. Her father even gives her a puppy as a child and she kills it just by touching it. Of course it has a happy ending that I won't spoil. This past weekend i went to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal and so i started thinking on what peoples different fears are. I realized that all of the stories we've read so far deal with a lot of fear. And most literature deals with fear. Like Oskar was scared of a lot of things and so were the men in The Things They Carried. Everything seems to be motivated by fear actually.

I disagree based on the facts that Oskar and I share a very upsetting back stories. I dealt with my troubles better than he did, and i feel like he is just flat out annoying. This may be partly due to the fact that i have an issue with viewing emotion and sympathy as weaknesses. It is a very harsh outlook i understand but i can't help the way I see things in that aspect.

I really liked how this book was set up. Like i really enjoyed how the pictures related to instances in the story. I didn't really like the book's story though. I like a more linear story line than this. It had some interesting parts but the book as whole I really did not care for. I didn't like Oskar at all because i found his character really very annoying, I couldn't really pinpoint any specific details as to why i don't like him, i just don't.
