Do you think Regulus was waiting for Sirius on the other side of the veil?

Ouch.

To be perfectly honest I doubt it. Too much happened between them personally—Regulus’ moment of heroics be damned. I don’t think they could ever really go back to how they were at one point. Had Sirius known what his brother did would he be proud? Yes. But even if Regulus did something amazing like kill Voldemort himself Sirius would never be able to fully forgive him, so I doubt Reg would be able to drop everything easily himself.

Alecto wasn’t going to sleep tonight, not that that was any different than any other night, but she was also avoiding her bedroom and the common room for the time being. So she had taken to walking through the halls, hoping to stay out of trouble. That was just what she needed, was a detention, but right now she was honestly a little bit willing to risk it if it meant staying out of Bellatrix’s sight for a little bit. She froze when she heard footsteps, thinking it was a professor, or an auror. But then she saw a very rumpled Sirius Black. “Classy, S,” she replied with a wry smirk on her lips. “I think you forgot…” she gestured to his open fly.

Sirius glanced down, arcing an eyebrow in mild confusion until his eyes zeroed in on his open fly through the darkness. Without being the least bit bothered he merely shrugged and zipped it up, never one to quite be described as bashful. “I needed some entertainment. I just...needed to get away from it quickly too,” he said, giving an unapologetic shrug as he run his hand through his messier than usual hair. It wasn’t a secret to anyone that Sirius didn’t stick around, but some still got mad at him and he rubbed his jaw at the memory which happened just five or so minutes ago. At least it didn’t hurt quite so bad now---he’d give the girl some credit: she could pack a punch.

Regulus froze, and he swore his heart simply stopped in his chest. Sirius. Of course. Of course it was bloody Sirius while he was out past curfew.

He would rather have run into Dumbledore. Or Filch.

“I doubt a reprimand from you would carry much weight,” he replied, working very hard to keep his voice even and his face defiantly neutral.

“A reprimand from mummy or daddy dearest would carry quite a bit of weight though,” Sirius said, snickering as he leaned a shoulder against the wall. It’s not like he’d ever say anything to his parents. He hadn’t talked to them since he left, but he didn’t know what to say when he was around Regulus. The only thing that seemed to come naturally was sarcastic comments.

Nicodemus had been up late reading in his office when he thought he heard a noise. A quick look around the hall revealed nothing. He’d just about chalked it up to the ghosts when he heard a voice around the corner. “Funny, I thought that was my line,” he retorted, genuinely amused that the student hadn’t realized he was a professor. “What’re you doing up at this hour?”

Sirius frowned for a moment and mentally cursed himself for not just walking away when he heard someone approaching him. He didn’t think any professors would be out this late which is why he chanced attempting to bother another student who was out late like himself. Apparently he was mistaken. “Uh...” He tried to come up with a valid excuse, but he found himself coming up short. “Aiding a friend who was upset about something?”

       Prefects had their perks. The bathrooms, the special carriages on the train, and even thee power to report other students—thought that last part never really went to Amos’ head. Frankly he was trying to pat his transcript in hopes that the ministry would be impressed, instead of waltzing in by his family’s name alone. However the down sides were late night patrols, frankly something he hated. More so tonight since the same year prefect called up on a favor for Amos; as he did the same before hand. Either way his patrol doubled, causing the little Hufflepuff to be wandering further than he needed to be; which luckily proved worth. “I am actually.” he lifted his prefect pin on his robe, “As for the line, that’s what I should be saying to you. Why are you up?”

“Pron---James sent me for something.” This wasn’t the first time Sirius tried to use the fact that two of his best mates were in position of at least slight perks. It didn’t work all the time, especially if he tried it with a Professor which only happened once, but it was worth a shot. Besides, Sirius wasn’t usually too worried about getting caught by a prefect after hours, it just ended up being more annoying than anything when they tried to give him a detention.

Heading away from the Ravenclaw Tower, Sirius smoothed down his shirt which was buttoned incorrectly and the fly to his trousers was still down---though in his defense they were at least buttoned. It was much past curfew, but he decided he wasn’t going to be with the girl all night, so he was doing his best to sneak back to his dorm in his rumpled and messy sort of state when he heard footsteps. “You’re not supposed to be out of bed this late,” he said, turning and looking blindly down the corridor through the darkness towards the person.

Growing up in the Carrow household had taught Alecto to not like touching like this. She wasn’t used to warm affection, she was used to parents that didn’t give a damn about her and her brother, parents that had them to carry on the family name and that was about it. Being hugged was not something that ever really happened, and thus, she wasn’t comfortable with it. But she was comfortable with Sirius, surprisingly. It wasn’t something that she expected after everything that happened, but maybe that was the point. They couldn’t take back what had happened between them, but they did have a lot of history together, a complicated one. So she forced herself to relax. “Yeah, me too,” she said, shrugging her shoulders. But it was time for her to move on and try to forget the past. There was no point in continuing to bring it up. She almost laughed, it was moments like this that she was reminded that Sirius and Bellatrix were cousins. Offering her a drink was something Bella would have done.”I suppose I could have another one,” she nodded. She considered this a special occasion.

Sirius bobbed his head up and down and stayed quiet for a solid minute as he looked out over the grounds. It probably wasn’t the smartest move to drink up in the Astronomy Tower, but it was a common place for him to be. When he went through a phase of actually trying to impress a girl before he shagged them, he’d bring them up here and point out several stars and constellations he knew about because of his upbringing. It was stupid in his opinion, but at that moment his eyes cast up towards the sky and his gaze was searching out the familiar patterns in the sky he could usually pick out so easily. “What are you doing after graduation?” he asked, finally.

When writing out their wills as part of Order training, Marlene (feeling invincible as usual) jokingly told Sirius that if he ever had to speak at her funeral to make sure he reminded everyone how mean she was in the mornings- to not let her memory get too rosy with death, and all that.

Four months later, he found himself giving her eulogy to a room full of people. He’d sat up all night, drinking and shaking, trying to write something worthy of her. It was five pages long when he’d finished, more than he’d ever turned in for any assignment during his time at school

But when he got up to the podium, all he was able to get out was “Marlene was a bitch in the morning,” before he broke down completely.

“Steven Tyler has some of the best vocals in the music industry right now.” She told him with a sheepish smile. Music had always been a huge part of her life. It began with being in choir at church. Rosemary and Carter were blessed with the ability to sing, it was something they shared quietly. At least Rosemary didn’t broadcast it. It didn’t surprise her that he didn’t know who she was, even though she was only a year below him and was nearly always in the common room. “I know of you, yeah.” She told him quietly, feeling awkward admitting to it. But like he said, most people already knew who he was. “Mostly just from what other people say.”

“Ahh, someone with good taste. I’m mad at myself for not knowing of you sooner.” Sirius gave a sheepish smile in return and ran a hand through his hair. He completely believed he more than likely has seen this girl more times than he could count, but when he was around the common room he wasn’t usually paying attention to much. Sirius may be friendly, but when he was already with a group of his friends he didn’t really pay attention to others. “Don’t believe a word of anything.”

“I’m not your mate, Sirius,” he snarled at the boy, pulling back from him further. Amycus nearly lifted his wand towards the Gryffindor, but they were in much too public of a place for him to let out his aggression on Sirius without being caught. His wand found its way back into his pocket, “Thank you so much for the protection. Does this mean I’m not allowed to kick your ass for what you did to my sister? I’ve never been one to follow rules…”

Sirius couldn’t help but laugh a little at the Slytherin’s protests. He wasn’t expecting anything else, but even as Amycus looked at him as if he had a long list of ways to cause Sirius pain he just casually put his hands in pockets and shrugged, not looking the least bit fazed. “If you wanted to that bad I didn’t take you for a person who’d ask for permission.”
