„Ich hasse Smalltalk. Ich möchte über den Sinn des Lebens, Sex, Erinnerungen, Musik, die dich bewegt, deine Lügen und Fehler, deine Kindheit, die Gründe für deine schlaflosen Nächte, deine Unsicherheiten und Ängste sprechen. Ich mag Menschen mit Tiefgang, die aus der Emotion, fernab von ihrer Fassade, sprechen.“

German movies Part 1
Hey guys! I noticed how many people on this website are learning German or want to learn it. It is my mother tongue and I love German cinema. We all know that movies help to improve language skills, so I made a list about my favorite German films and some must-sees! I hope you enjoy these films!
Keinohrhasen (the main actor is problematic IRL and also in this movie but I still like it, a journalist has to work in a day care center because he fucked up Vladimir Klitschko’s party, he meets the girl he used to bully when he was a teenager and then they fall in love… this movie is so typical for that director lmao)
Zweiohrküken (the same characters as in Keinohrhasen, they move in together and it’s a mess, also the guy’s ex affair wants him back and the woman’s ex boyfriend - whose dick she describes as the eiffel tower - is back in the city and wants to be with her again, drama drama drama, cute, typical German rom-com)
Anatomie (very bloody! about a girl who wants to become a doctor, creepy things happen at her summer med school)
Die wilden Hühner (a kids’ movie based on famous books, a cute girl gang wants to save a few chicken from a member’s granny who wants to kill and freeze them, very cute film)
(T)raumschiff surprise (gay people in space, ICONIC)
Fack ju Göhte (supposed to mean Fuck you Goehte, a criminal pretends to be a teacher, great comedy, sexy main actor, CHANTAL CRY LESS NOISY!)
Good bye, Lenin (iconic movie, a woman was in coma for 8 months and her son makes her believe the GDR still exists, awesome soundtrack, great story, cute couple, very moving)
Die Welle (a teacher makes a social experiment about fascism with his class and it goes wrong!! a must-see!)
Pünktchen und Anton (adaption of a famous novel, cute movie for children but I’m in my twenties and I still love it, a rich girl and a poor boy become friends)
Die dunkle Seite des Mondes (don’t take drugs guys, just don’t! this movie will show you why! the main character goes crazy - but is it just because he took drugs? find out!!)
Jeune Homme ((Swiss)German and French film about a guy who makes an au pair year, gets laid by the neighbour lady and falls in love with the host parents’ oldest daughter)
7 Zwerge - Männer allein im Wald (it’s like Snow White and the 7 dwarfs but very trashy, the dwarfs are big, the prince has a wild hair style and Snow White loves playing with her barbie. Ah, and the evil queen’s outfits are iconic and weird)
Die wilden Kerle (a kids’ movie about boys who play soccer - we all love it! EVERYTHING’S ALRIGHT AS LONG AS YOU’RE WILD! BE WILD - DANGEROUS AND WILD!)
Sommer (teen movie about the first love, takes place on an island, skater boy meets rich boy and they both love the same girl, teenage drama, i don’t wanna spoil but some people almost die and sth burns down)
Das Missenmassaker (12 girls who want to be Miss Switzerland, bitch fights 24/7 and a lot of blood because a lot of people get killed)
For No Eyes Only (Rear Window for teenagers, a very interesting thriller, cute main characters)
Homevideo (a guy films himself while masturbating, someone finds the video and then the drama starts, his family also falls apart)
Grosse Mädchen weinen nicht (two teenage girls, lots of feelings, sex, dangerous things)
Lola rennt (reminds me of The Butterfly Effect, iconic film, i don’t even wanna say more about it just watch it)
Who am I - Kein System ist sicher (movies about hackers with big plans and sometimes you have no idea if what you see is what is real)
Das Leben der Anderen (must see! fucking sad tho)
Cannabis (a member of the Swiss federal council who is against the legalization of weed has to consume weed because he has a problem with his eye and this helps - ofc his life changes and gets wild)
Die Herbstzeitlosen (4 old Swiss woman open a lingerie shop in a lil village and people freak out)
Grounding - Die letzten Tage der Swissair (the story behind the grounding of Swissair, the national airline of Swizzy)
Das Experiment (based on a true story, some people engage in a prison experiment - some are good people, others are bad people and ofc it escalates quickly)
i’ve waited a whole year to finally reblog this
Been in my queue for a year
being gay before the invention of lube must have been a pain in the ass
according to my history professor this is actually a huge contributing factor to the popularity of olive oil in Ancient Greece
this is the best possible thing that i will ever learn and i thank you for that
The people of Ancient Greece loved that ancient grease
I am begrudgingly reblogging this for the first time in like four urls for this, the first comment on this post to actually make me laugh in literally years
There’s a quote in a letter from some poor Roman stationed out in like, fucking Ukraine, basically saying it’s the worst place to live in the entire world because they grow neither olives nor grapes.
No lube and no wine. WHY EVEN BE ALIVE
Can’t we just all pitch in for some computer genius to add a “readers also enjoyed” section on ao3 to help us all out with our post fanfic grief? ??
I recently saw a meme on Facebook that said something along the lines of “how to make a millennial panic: lock them in a room with only a phone book and a rotary phone and write the instructions in cursive!” It had this smug “aha, gotcha” vibe oozing out of it, and it…just sort of made me laugh. Like, really? Really? But it also made me think…
Beyond the fact that I know how to use both a phone book and a rotary phone and can read cursive (as long as it’s not too horrifically messy), I think it was the attitude of “Oh no, we’ve got you because you couldn’t possibly figure out how to use something that’s new to you” that really made me snort. But I think that’s the key to this and similar memes that I’ve seen.
They don’t think we could figure out how to use something new to us, because they can’t do it.
Like, if you presented a millennial with a rotary phone or a phone book and they had never, ever used one or seen one used before, I can guarantee pretty much any millennial could figure out how to use it. Because that’s what we do: we adapt. We’ve been through so many variations of technology and seen so many new forms of technology emerge that we’ve had to learn to adapt swiftly and fluidly. It’s second nature to us.
Put a boomer in a room with a smartphone, laptop, and tablet however, and well…different story.
I’m not sure if they literally don’t understand that presenting a millennial with something they haven’t encountered before would not be an obstacle and certainly not a panic-inducing one, or if they just say things like that to make themselves feel better that they couldn’t do the equivalent, or if it’s a combination of the above.
I just realized that the original meme is also, quite accidentally, basically describing the principle behind….. escape rooms.
You know, the recent popular trend in participatory entertainment in which thousands of millennials literally go out and pay money to voluntarily be locked in a room where they have to solve puzzles under a time pressure, often using antiquated or analog technology, secret codes, and mechanisms they don’t yet understand, all without using their phones/the internet. For fun.
For many of us, that’s not panic-inducing, that’s just our idea of an enjoyable Saturday night out with some friends!
Now I’m just laughing even harder.
Also, people forget the age range that the “millennial” group is comprised of. I’m a millennial and I’ve used those things many, many times when I was younger. I didn’t grow up with the internet and I didn’t even have a cellphone til I was like 22 because they weren’t commonly in use. 🙄
Cursive was standard curriculum being taught when I was in the fourth grade.
I’ve used pay phones because they were what you used. I’ve run a book store all day doing handwritten receipts and accounting. I learned to type on a typewriter because computers were still relatively new and expensive in schools. And I’m 37–that’s not that old (and if you think it is, you’ll realize when you get here).
And in all seriousness, the shitty cliches of what millennials are is really starting to piss me off, like beyond casually and beyond a dismissive rolling of my eyes. We and the following generations are the only hope this earth has of not literally becoming an uninhabitable wasteland. We’re afraid to even have children. And we’re also the only ones apparently capable of realizing the OBVIOUS, which is that corporations–not individuals–are the ones who can make a big impact on climate change and are choosing not to do so. And the fucking boomers see nothing wrong with that. So if you ask me all these crusty old entitled fucks who are sitting around bitching ignorantly about millennials struggling in the economy they created are more than welcome to die and let us take over.
Fuck you, love. All the love, Me
Complementary Character Traits
Anonymous said:
I know you are not back for a few days. But I’ll just leave this here. Could you please write up a list of character traits that compliment each other? Like for romantic relationships? Thank you.
Hey Nony! Before I start, thanks so much for your patience with me. I was out for about a week longer than I initially said and I really appreciate it.
So these are definitely a bit of a challenge to come up with someimtes; it’s hard to figure out which ones would go well together without creating too much conflict between your characters.
The dictionary defines complementary as “combining in such a way as to enhance or emphasize the qualities of each other or another”, so that’s how I’m interpreting this. The qualities on the left side of the list were taken from The Positive Trait Thesarus by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi (but that doesn’t mean that those on the right are definitively positive or negative).
You’ll find some tips for incorporating these qualities into your characters beneath the cut. But without further ado! Behold, the big ol’ list of complementary character traits:

Choosing Traits
So, that’s a pretty long list of traits to choose from. As you’ve probably guessed, though, there are any more to choose from; what’s above is just a fraction of all the possibilities. But if there are so many, how do we know which ones to choose?
If you’re just starting off, choose two or three pairs to work with. Create your characters and develop these traits, building off the ways that would separate them. Then, find some traits that they would have in common, traits that would actually give them a reason to stay together. Maybe Character A is more perceptive while Character B is a bit more on the ignorant side, but they’re both extremely creative and loyal. In this case the reasons for these characters to stay together outweighs their differences, so that would be a good goal to start with.
A general guideline that’s worked well in the past for me has been to choose differences that you know can be balanced out by shared traits. I don’t want the characters in my pairing to have six complementary traits and only two shared ones; that could create a lot of conflict and would make the relationship more work than necessary. You want them to complement each other, but don’t overdo it.
Creating “Complementary Characters”
Well, my first response is this: You shouldn’t create a character based off of the traits of another. If you do this, there’s an extremely high chance that your readers will be able to tell. Another thing you’ll probably want to avoid is adding these traits into a character you’ve already created. If that character has already been rounded off, throwing more traits into the mix might mess with the balance.
Instead, I would advise choosing your traits and developing a character around them. If we’re using the character example from above, I know that I want A to be perceptive, creative, and loyal. These aren’t the only three traits they might have, but those are the three I want to start with. The same goes for B; they’re a little ignorant, really creative, and loyal, but those aren’t their only three traits. I find it easiest to start with things like these and develop the characters more from there, letting things evolve naturally to create the characters I want.
Something to Remember: These traits don’t all follow the same path, based on the character’s entire personality. Keep this in mind; chance are it’ll help you vary your characters’ personalities during development to really make them stand out.
Something to Remember 2.0: The above list and tips don’t apply only to romantic relationships! Complementary traits will play a huge role in (probably) every single one of your character’s releationships!

Dude I am unironically SO MAD about the romans stealing all the Greek gods and mythology. Hit me up if you want to refuse to use the Roman names and be really angry about it with me.
YES it happened a long time ago but I remember it like it was yesterday.
Hmmmmm
i would pay any amount of money to be able to sit and watch harry and louis have a conversation about literally any topic
now that i think about it's kinda... unhealthy i didn't even think about not reblogging instantly⁉️
hot take if u only care about louis as 1/2 of larry and only see what he does for himself and his career as a connection to harry then u truly don’t give a fuck about him and don’t actually stan him and most likely don’t deserve him

I love this, and all the notes. I too learned more straight-up grammar in french, spanish, latin, and greek classes than in “english” class. Why has it fallen out of fashion to teach us our own language?
