Spotlight on Agatha Christie (b. 15 September 1890)
i want to read but i also don’t want to read but i also want to read but i also don’t want to read
do you feel
fucking hate it when the stuff everybody says "actually works" does actually work.
hate exercising and realizing i've let go of a lot of anxiety and anger because i've overturned my fight-or-flight response.
hate eating right and eating enough and eating 3 times a day and realizing i'm less anxious and i have more energy
hate journaling in my stupid notebook with my stupid bic ballpoint and realizing that i've actually started healing about something once i'm able to externalize it
hate forgiving myself hate complimenting myself more often hate treating myself with kindness hate taking a gratitude inventory hate having patience hate talking to myself gently
hate turning my little face up to the sun and taking deep breaths and looking at nature and grounding myself and realizing that i feel less burdened and more hopeful, more actually-here, that i am able to see the good sides of myself more clearly, that i am able to see not only how far i have to grow - but also how much growth i have already done & how much of my life i truly fill with light and laughter and love
horrible horrible horrible. hate it but i'm gonna do it tho
08.09.2022// things I’m grateful for this morning: rooibos lattes & 100 words of this dissertation blurred out onto the page
05.09.2022// woke up at 5:30 from an anxiety dream… one meditation, one long shower, one cup of tea, one bowl of oatmeal, one (maybe two) doomscroll, and one chapter of my fun book later… I’m starting to feel human again
03.09.22// Currently Reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt (only several years “late” after its popularity peak)
My favourite footnote of the day: “Mystic Templars are omnipresent in all good conspiracy theories,” *chortle*
(From Graham-Leigh, The Southern French Nobility and the Albigensian Crusade, fn. 17)
(… speaking of mystic Templars… I’m still working my way through Ivanhoe)
03.07.21
07.20.21// Better late than never I finally got my hands on a copy of Ivanhoe to join @oldshrewsburyian ‘s read along! This will be my first time properly reading the whole book. I took advantage of the sunshine this morning to read the first chapter…
A considerable open space, in the midst of this glade, seemed formerly to have been dedicated to the rites of Druidical superstition; for, on the summit of a hillock, so regular as to seem artificial, there still remained part of a circle of rough uneven stones, of large dimensions. Seven stood upright; the rest had been dislodged from their places, probably by the zeal of some convert to Christianity, and lay, some prostrate near their former site, and others on the side of the hill.
the feeling early on in a research project where you know all the things connect but you don't yet have the words for HOW they all come together
My professor: a dissertation chapter/month seems about right
Me: 😶 Ok, yeah, sure
Me, internally:
31.05.21 // Should be my last day of work before I take time off and I’m crossing my fingers that I can actually get things done before lunch! I have a last few bits to wrap up on a research project... I’m so close, I just need to muster up enough concentration/motivation to work for 4-5 hours (?) and get it done.
04.06.21 // Update: due to a series of technical glitches, I couldn’t finish the research project until today but I just finished and 🎉🎉🎉 IM ON VACATION!
210530// 16/100 days of productivity
worked on a research proposal for something quite cool today! i also managed to submit a conference abstract and do some admin job for my research-assistant-job :)
today’s focus: 8h 30min
listening to: taeyeon, circus
It took me an unnecessarily long time to take notes on Edward the First, so no real updates. Here’s a picture of my cat trying to keep me from reading the Henry VI plays instead.

Let's do some reading at the end of this working day 📖
So far this week I have transcribed 4 early modern English manuscript pages, had two paleography classes, done two Latin lessons, got 60 pages deep on Johnson's Equal in Monastic Profession, and finished the first chapter of Beard's SPQR.
Probably not going to achieve as much reading as I had hoped this week, but at least I finally started Johnson's book.
